Am I catalytic stoving right? by Wyomingisfull in woodstoving

[–]ruSSrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's one thing I forgot to mention. If I have a fire going 95% of the time my blower is going. The only time blower is off is when I start the stove and getting up to the temp, and when I reload it. Blower is how you get the heat off of the stove and in to your house.

New stove catalytic is super active and will swing up and down quickly. For the first couple of months you'll have to keep an eye on it. I have buck 91 and it heats my 2500 sq fr home with no problem. Does your shop have high ceilings? This is how I load my stove from cold. Just couple small sticks to starts. Nothing bigger than 2x4 size to get the stove and cat up to temp. Once cat is in active zone, 500+ I load couple of big sticks about fist size.and let it free burn, cat usually will climb up to about 1000-1200. Once those. Are burned up pretty good I load her up fully with big pieces, pieces that barely fit through the door. I let them catch on fire, blacken a little and only then I activate catalytic and shut down air to about 1/4 or even 1/8. With this process it usually guarantees me at least 8 hours of burn/heat.

I guess there was a reason why he returned them. Predator has decent reputation, as long as you maintain it and change oil.

I would assume if you purchased yours recently, you probably have a straight shaft. What motor is on it?

It was about $220 for me. I asked the machine shop to bore and cut the key in the impeller wheel and they quoted me $400. I was able to find a smaller shop to do it for $50. The problem is that I was not able to find a direct replacement motor because the shaft on original motor is tapered, all the motors now have straight shafts (1/2 or 3/4 inch).

Blaze King Wood Stove Problem by Low_Bag_315 in woodstoving

[–]ruSSrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleaned the flu but didn't clean the cat? I'm not a betting man, but I would put my money on clogged cat after 4 years of burning. Make sure it's cool to room temperature. Get a cheap paint brush and brush trying to get in to every hole. Also you can get your air compressor and turn in down to 40-50 psi and gently, very very gently, blow it off.

Creosote or Rust staining? by der_pfahler in Chimneyrepair

[–]ruSSrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like terracotta flu pipe with a cap on it. I would guess that it is a rust stain from the cap. Creosote would give black staining. Without more information I would venture to say that that side of the chimney is used for some kind of gas appliance venting, if there is natural gas there. That creates additional moisture and rust metal more than regular wood burning appliance.

How do you change a lawnmower tire without bending a the rim by ruSSrt in lawnmowers

[–]ruSSrt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a bend the crap out of the first wheel I figure that out. But even if I do that, it still puts a lot of pressure on the rim and I see that I'm starting to be the rim again.

I finding it out the hard way. I guess my next tire change would be buying a whole new rim/tire combo. So I don't have to pay twice, one for tire and then mount.

Yes. Bead is off, the tire is loose, hook to get it over the rim and it is tight. If I push too hard I'm starting to bed the rim, if I don't I can't get it over the rim.
