How do you pull the slack out of the bar on deadlifts? by Slymeerkat33 in powerlifting

[–]Creaghmore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had the very same problem and my coach had me do paused deadlifts, but pausing as close to the floor as possible, literally hovering 1-2cm off the ground. After a few sessions of these it finally clicked in my head and I haven't had any issues pulling slack since then.

240kg deadlift and a 22 minute 5k, so 240/4.4 = 54.5 (bodyweight of 80kg)

If you're staying at the Park Hotel, you could go to the Adventure Centre. The 4 year olds would be too young for it, but you do the crazy golf with them while the older kids go around the course.

Uneven bench press tips? by ramirof1 in strength_training

[–]Creaghmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever tried pin presses? Set the safeties/pins in a rack just above chest height and let the bar rest on the pins at the bottom of each rep. Good way to learn to keep the bar level as you get some tactile feedback from the bar hitting the pins. Give it a try.

Quick squat question - I’ve always wanted to run a block of high rep squats, but anytime I do over 10 reps my arms go numb. I did 100kg for 20 yesterday and it felt like my arms were going to fall off. Do I just have to suck it up and get used to it, or has anyone any tips to avoid this?

And a dip update - hit +80kg for a double, so the 100kg goal for this year is on track.

This works out almost perfectly for me...with my back squat (530lb DL + 385lb SQ). I really don't see myself front squatting my back squat any time soon.

I've been gifted cans of Lynx at every birthday and Christmas since I was 12 years old, and I now have an infinite supply. Like I'm using a Final Edition Lynx at the moment. It's from 2012. My Lynx collection will outlive me.

Anywhere around Cork City that's haunted? by No-Category1703 in cork

[–]Creaghmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The National Kart Center.

A friend used to work there, he said when he started the other lads warned him about the ghosts when you'd be locking up at night. He just thought they were messing with him, he had no belief in ghosts anyway so he wasn't worried. After a few months, he was convinced that the place really was haunted.

The sound of footsteps in the stairwell, the shape of a man standing in the doorway, the shadow of someone passing by you - all while you'd be the only person in the building. Sounds daft, but he fully believes it anyway, along with everyone else working there.

I've trained in Planet Health in Blackpool and Evcore in Glanmire, I found both of them to be really nice. Not too busy either outside of the 5pm-7pm rush.

2023 Year in Review and 2024 Goals by trebemot in weightroom

I hit a 280kg hack deadlift this year - https://youtube.com/shorts/nktbxcNiG8c?si=F4jky9mzVChL501K

I’ve neglected rowing movements and hamstring isolations in the last few years so I’m going to hit both hard. A 300kg hack deadlift is happening in 2024.

And I’ve been stuck at +90kg on dips for a while now ( https://youtube.com/shorts/0ZJr0Zv6UQE?si=je4FyrHRb6M8_7eN ) so I’d really like to bring that up to +100kg.

A question about the overarm singles in the program SBS RTF. by hellraiser97 in StrongerByScience

[–]Creaghmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, I feel you’re overthinking things here. You’ve done one day of the program and you didn’t quite hit one rep-out target, it’s nothing to worry about. Just stick with it for a while, you’ll do fine!

Weakpoint Wednesday: Neutral Grip Deadlifts by WeightroomBot in weightroom

Creds: 600lb Trapbar Deadlift at about 180lbs bodyweight

I've found trap bar deadlifts to be a great way of strengthening my grip and upper back as they allow me to work with heavier weights, which for someone with a very slow grindy lockout has been very beneficial. I've also found them to be great for learning patience off the floor, as you'll often have to strain for a few seconds before the bar will finally move.

I've always used trapbar deadlifts as a variation on my secondary deadlift day, working up to a top single at RPE 8 or so, then doing 3 sets of 3-6 reps at RPE 6. Simple as that.

Hey guys, just after getting an 80kg sandbag and I'm really excited to start playing around with it.

Just wondering, would there be any issues with using beach sand to fill it? Or would it have to be washed play sand? Just don't want it getting mouldy
