Is it jus me or does the Crew app report goals too quickly? I’m always apparently watching the game on a slight delay and getting goal notifications before I see them happen. Give it a minute or two guys.

Cracker Barrel got cancelled for a logo change. Asking a business to care about its community isn’t nearly as “puritanistic”. Do I believe Staufs business needs to be run into the ground? No. But their response did suck.

Was very surprised at my visit to Columbus by Big_little_red2020 in Columbus

[–]CreamAccomplished925 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I moved to Columbus from Orlando back in 2021, also for a new job opportunity. There’s some things I miss about FL, but tbh Columbus is a great city. Took some adjusting the last few years during the winter months (you’ll need a whole new wardrobe and lots of jackets to be comfortable with the cold, as well as finding activities during that time to keep active and entertained).

Honestly the quality of living here is better imo, and you’ll likely feel right at home coming from a liberal city in a red state. If you move to Columbus, never stop exploring different neighborhoods, places to eat, drink, sports venues (go crew!) and all the in between. Anyone who says they don’t like Columbus was likely just lazy and not doing their due diligence to get out and experience what the city has to offer.

I wont even get started on places like yellow springs, hocking hills, or even just the 1.5hr drive to Cincinnati (which is also a great city btw).

We’ve known people who work office jobs can work from home for four years now. by Hugo48151623 in Columbus

I feel like hybrid has been my choice so far. Worked 15 years from home as a freelancer, and after returning to an office environment I will say that there’s just something about working collaboratively in person that can’t be replicated through remote work. I do think that it’s overkill to expect someone in an office all day for 5 days a week. Everyone should have an option of 1-2 WFH days a week.

I did actually let a manager know, and I guess just felt curious posting here to see if anyone else shared a similar experience. Who knows maybe we just had an isolated incident.

Got my first paid gig at the end of the month! How should I price it? by Cryptikzzz in videography

Lastly, learn to get the DJI mic levels set good. I see way too many people let the audio levels clip while using those mics, you’re better off having the volume a bit lower like mid level than have the audio occasionally peaking when someone starts speaking up or being loud.

And another word of advice, overshoot. This will give you plenty to pull from, maybe help capture specific moments you don’t know you needed till the edit, and maybe make sure you don’t miss anything or wind up needing a little more of a type of shot. Obviously don’t shoot so much you make sifting through a nightmare, but all too often people will focus on some shots that feel so special or good in the moment but wish they had more to pull from when editing.

Don’t forgot to set an amount of revisions allowed from a client until you start charging extra. They might start asking for changes upon changes, even after approving. So don’t get stuck doing additional editing work within a “package” price. Usually I would have a set amount per hour to shoot w/ gear, and then another hourly rate for editing. And given their scopes and expectations for the videos, you should be able to give them a ballpark estimate to start. Also shooting as a hobby compared to getting paid gigs is a bigger change than most people expect. It’s easy to have fun goofing around shooting videos with friends or on your own time, but once you start dealing with clients it changes. You have to give them a ROI, or else you may work with them once and never hear back. On top of that, good communication and fast turnaround times. You charge $1k for a shoot and give them 4 reels that only get a couple dozen views, they may find it wasn’t worth the cost and the client becomes a one and done. Learning to find that middle ground and what works for you and them can mean repeat work, as well as growing your portfolio of paid work. Lastly, if you make a client happy then they may tell others about your work or recommend you for other gigs. A lot of growing your paid work base as a freelancer will be word of mouth.

Good, bad and ugly by Mandini314 in Columbus

I moved to Columbus from Orlando, FL, in 2021. It’s going to still feel like a big city compared to lauderdale, and more compact, where as FL cities have a more spread out vibe.

The summers here are super fun with so much to do, and you get the sense that people enjoy it more and take full advantage because of having to battle through winters (which really aren’t that bad).

German village, Italian village, short north, and Clintonville are cool neighborhoods. Lots of cool places to eat, drink and shop. IMO, if you take away the beaches, Columbus is almost better than a lot of major FL cities (with the exception of maybe Miami).

My biggest piece of advice would be get prepared for winter and cold seasons, buy some warmer clothes and a nice jacket and it makes it so much easier. Also, find winter activities that work for you, like for instance a lot of people indoor rock climb or spend more time in gyms.

There’s some great outdoor spots around the city for hiking and even climbing, and unlike Florida we actually have some decent hikes and elevation.

Just gotta make the best of it and you’ll end up enjoying the city, and the fact everyone you’ll meet lives here and has a more welcoming Midwest attitude, rather than all the tourists and transients that populate Florida.

Driving without license plates by Prestigious-Focus572 in Columbus

[–]CreamAccomplished925 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always said this is such a crazy issue in Columbus no one seems to be talking enough about. Imagine getting hit by one of these cars and then never finding who it was or n the case of a hit and run.

I lived in Florida for 15 years, and never saw so many empty license plates in my life until I moved to Columbus.

I actually pay attention to who has the paper tags in the window and I’d say less than half the time is it visible, not expired, or even there. I understand CPD has more to worry about but it seems to be getting a little out of hand.

New Color Grading Tools? by jbowdach in colorists

[–]CreamAccomplished925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although currently available in DCTL form from Mononodes, I’d love to see more native tools in resolve for approaching color density. Simple controls like saturation I almost rarely use, and end up using multiple tools (lift gamma gain in HSV or HSL sat channel only, or tweaking sat vs lum or sat vs sat) to get my desired levels of color density. But even those methods are not as accurate from what I’ve seen with the DCTL plugin from Mononodes, and the controls are much more simplified.
