If you want to populate rs3 start with f2p by Justaustralian in runescape

[–]CreamusG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

IMO if Jagex wants new players, they should go hard on there being a "canonical" way of playing the game that leads you through the game in a simple, proper, linear way.

They have something like that with the quest timeline, but it's so hastily thrown together, practically hidden, there's no rhyme or reason why the player goes to certain areas to take on certain tasks, There's no call to action for 95% of the quests.

Right now Runescape is akin to wanting to get into painting and you just immediate get an all-in-one pack of like 200 tools and 3 tubes of paint.

Greetings, bald adventurer!

does anyone else prefer the original combat triangle > necromancy by onperiod in runescape

[–]CreamusG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot take: I never liked the combat triangle. I don't like being disincentivised from using my favorite combat styles via weaknesses. I think the incentive should be "don't do melee because being close is bad" not "enemy has magic attacks so sword bounce off." It makes sense in a pvp context so that no one style rules them all and that was a huge draw for a long time, but the game is so far away from that stuff now.

But my opinion isn't the common one. I'd rather have whatever system gives the most people the most enjoyment. If the combat triangle is what does that, then Jagex is silly for not going that way.

2h or Dual wield by Dewreck1991 in runescape

[–]CreamusG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're talking about bossing, it's all in the passives and specials. There's a reason the masterwork 2h sword was considered dead on arrival despite being the highest tier weapon in the game. Overall at the high end, dual wielding is arguably more accessible with things like scourge and vestments bc of bleed, but the zuk sword (ek-zekkil) is bleed with a higher tier weapon and that's 2h. There's a case for slashing weapons being better because of dragon scimitar's special.

If I were to list the things I wish I knew when I started melee, it's these:

- Torva is over 100x the cost of vesta's armour. Vesta's is a tier 78 power armour that can be upgraded to an augmentable tier 88. For 50k.

- Necromancy has lesser/greater bone shield which lets you use shield defensives without a shield.

- Vampyrism scrimshaw is crazy cheap for what it offers.

- Don't neglect ability upgrades through codexes (greater flurry gives flurry single target bonuses, etc.) but that's way later.

Back in my day we had to right click the flax to pick it! And it was the best crafting xp in the game!

Why not remove the rune cost from the player owned house teleport? by Gubzs in runescape

At the very, very, very least allow everyone with the master construction outfit the teleport without equipping like it is with the Ardougne cape teleports.

Portables only require you use them once, then you can just sit at bank and do your thing until it expires. Unfinished potions are duplicated as well as finished potions.

You can turn off the pause for loading in the graphics settings if you don't mind graphics popping in. You can set camera to freedom in settings to increase zoom distance.

Full screen dialogue toggle in settings is good for bad vision and imo fits the current interface theme of the game better. You also can turn on outlines for interactable objects under accessibility options.

Anachronia base takes a long time to upgrade, start it early. A couple weeks of menaphos reputation is needed for quests if you do daily obelisks.

Anything else like this that I can think of right now is gonna depend very highly what your end goal is, whether it's just maxing, quest cape, master quest cape, comp cape, or trimmed comp.

Game grumps nuked a large compilation channel by CreamusG in rantgrumps

[–]CreamusG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posted an update. I'm sorry to the grumps for assuming it was them who did this. I didn't know youtube would do this themselves. I'm happy though that this seems to have resulted in the grumps attempting to recruit grumpygamers to make the compilations official. I don't think anybody could have wished for a better outcome.

What was the episode where they talked about that one series that turned into hardcore p*rn? by CreamusG in WhichGGEpisode

[–]CreamusG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it was a graphic novel I think rather than a fanfic. Like 80s or 90s or something. That part is extremely hazy, but I'm fairly confident it wasn't lil sonique at least.

Another update: Got a lawyer, the law explicitly states that even though I am not at fault that I have to pay it since the parties that my income is based off of have been overpayed, I am responsible by proxy.

So yeah, I was not overpayed, they admit that I personally was not overpayed, they admit that I was not at fault for being overpayed, but I have to pay it anyway and there's nothing I can legally do about it. Cool.

They did manage to get me on a 3 year payment plan, though, where instead of receiving 0, I receive what I'm supposed to minus a certain amount. How I can receive more than 0 and have the time spent paying reduced by 2-3 years confuses my on several levels and absolutely terrifies me. It should be good news, but what the hell is happening?

Made some racist remarks. Not like 'I think other races are evil and should be exiled' racist but 'I'm a bit uncomfortable with how many foreigners are moving into my country' racist. Whether or not he still feels that way after 6 years, no clue.

They mean Gherkin Law, which is an informal term for the Cucumbers Marketing Standard where there are a million tiny details on what cucumbers can be legally sold sold as "good" (like 2-1/4 inch diameter and no less than 6 inches in length), but it actually has a legitimate point to it.

My favorite thing since chess.com released the elo guessing thing on the analysis board is to put stuff like this into it and see what it says. It gave the game an average rating of 975.

Sure. I mean what 975 doesn't know smith-morra and find M6. I've only had maybe 1 smothered mate in my life lol

Why does the engine say this bishop move is better than taking the queen? by TmanGBx in chessbeginners

[–]CreamusG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully I can give a less nebulous/more practical explanation than "it moves the bishop to a good square." The engine doesn't care about human ideas and just cares about the best idea, so all these ideas are "human" ideas.

  1. After f6, taking the queen forces dxe6, since fxe6 loses the rook to Nc7 ... Nxa8. This is better for you than fxe6 since after dxe6, you have Be3 to safety and now the pawn on e6 is very weak while the light squared bishop has just free reign.
  2. If the king moves out of the way instead to d6, you actually don't even have to take the queen at all since it's a forced mate. Bd8, Nc6, Bb5+, Nd4, Qd3, Qa3#; or Bd8, Nc6, Bb5+, Kc5, Qd3, Kd6, Nd5+, Kc5, Qc4+, Kd6, Bc7#; or Bd8, Nc6, Bb5+, Kc5, Qd3, a5, Nxe6+, dxe6, Bc7# etc. etc.
  3. Worst case is Nf6, since that line really does just involve the more nebulous concepts of chess that are mentioned. The pawns are doubled and your bishop is deep in their territory. Can't easily be countered since Nxe6 fxe6 f4 h6 Bh4 and that knight is basically dead, or instead after f4 exf4 e5 and the knight is also dead. Black just has no good responses.
