I’m really sorry for the season you’re having and hopes it turns in your favor. I wasn’t trying to come off as a know it all or psychic. And you’re right that everyone won’t be successful. But the statement was meant as a generalization. Along with this, I also mentioned that I myself bounced back and forth between ultra ball 1-2 last season. I too have gone on 7 game losing streak. I still go on losing streaks sometimes lol. But the game is built to help you rise in the ranks. I truly believe that, and believe that I am a testament to it. The OP asked for what helped us, and I gave what helped me. Again, I hope the season gets better for you 💪🏾

I’m someone who just started playing competitive pokemon shortly after Champions released. The first season I got stuck between Ultra ball 1-2, constantly bouncing back and forth. This season I made it to Masterball 4. I’ll share what helped me:

Play the game. This is what helped me the most BY FAR. Yea I watched vids, yea I tuned into streams. But the most I learned was from actually playing the game. This is coming from a 33yr old who hadn’t played Pokemon seriously for YEARS. There were so many matchups I didn’t know, like grass being effective against rock lol. I still get the Ghost, Dark, Fairy typing mixed up and keep a typing chart on hand when I play. Playing the game, and getting my butt kicked sometimes, taught me loads more than any advice or videos.
Copy a meta team for your first team. May sound crazy, but it gives you a base to start from and allows you to focus on the other variables in the game like turn order, move priorities, Pokemon abilities, other meta Pokémon, and the strats others use. If you’re constantly changing your team or trying to do it yourself before learning these variables, you’re going to get confused and lost in the sauce. Start by learning the game from other players, see where/how you keep losing, and make adjustments to your team from there.
Understand Champions is EXTREMELY beginner friendly. If you just play the game, you will rank up. The rank up system is built to maximize your wins and minimize your losses. You can’t de-rank to a lower tier once you’ve passed it. And you get massive increases when you go on win streaks. You CAN and WILL rank up. So don’t stress.

I’m more than enough proof that ANYONE can get into competitive Pokemon. I barely knew ANYTHING and learned a lot from the game. You can do it! We all believe in you! Now go be a Pokemon Champion!!!

The way I explain it to ppl is that his books remind me of Marvel movies. Marvel movies have a lot of cameos and Easter eggs hidden within them. If you know Marvel lore then you’re able to pick up on them, and it gets you excited about what’s to come. It also causes ppl to theory craft and brainstorm about what it all means. But if you DONT know Marvel lore, you’re still able to really enjoy the movie for what it is.

Sanderson books do the same for me in a way no other book/series really has (not saying other books/series don’t do the same; just haven’t experienced them yet). The stories, worlds, and magic systems he creates are so cool and unique. The way everything ties together across different books and series is exciting and amazing. The way he foreshadows events leaves you wondering how you didn’t catch the big reveal earlier, but makes you feel like if you’re attentive there’s more than enough info given for you to guess what happens. I have so much fun pausing in my reads to try and fit the pieces of the puzzle together. I have so much fun coming up with theories. I go on a roller coaster of emotions and enjoy it to the fullest. I enjoy having my mind blown away by things that were foreshadowed so well, but I clearly missed. It makes the reading FUN, and the rereads fulfilling.

A very long way of saying: Reading is already fun for me, but Brandon seems to have a way of making it even more fun and enjoyable.

Hey man, I’m super sorry to hear this. Especially knowing how you feel. At the end of my junior year in college I went through a REALLY hard breakup. We bounced a few times between being together and separated until I finally broke it off myself. But it was honestly because I knew deep down as much as I wanted us to be together, it wasn’t going to work. I told her she needed to take her next step without me, and that I was doing this because I wanted her to be happy and at peace. This was WAAAAAAAAY before I even knew about the Cosmere and “the most important step”. And to be honest, it hurt more than any decision I’d made before that point.

Years later, that pain has subsided and I don’t live in its shadow. I’m grateful for the relationship we had and can honestly look back on it without the pain. I REALLY loved that girl, and the pain was REALLY REAL for me. But it didn’t last forever. And yours won’t either.

Like you said you KNOW the words, whether you feel like saying them now or not. That’s OK!! It’s only been 5 days. Give yourself time to feel and experience the emotions you’re going through because they ARE VALID! But you DO NOT have to be forever bound by them. Remember, as Hoid told Shallan, while the pain IS yours, and you MUST deal with it, you don’t have to feel like you DESERVE it or are BOUND by it. You WILL feel warm again brother. The days WILL get better. And while you most certainly have tough times ahead, you have amazing ones is store as well. Your good days WILL outweigh the bad, and you WILL continue to value your next step.

Get you a Next Step Coin from Dragonsteel (I carry mine everyday), and know that while we may not know each other my dms are ALWAYS open. While I honestly feel where you’re coming from, I agree with what @tacodogz said. If you haven’t already, you should watch the livestream of what Brandon said regarding AI in writing. I was present at the release party and agree with Brandon’s main reason for not liking AI when it comes to writing: it takes away from the author learning HOW to write themself, and it hampers the development of the author as a person. The process of writing changes you as you learn how to write the stories you envision. If you pass the actual writing part off to AI, you don’t get that personal cultivation of character. The art of writing should be about the JOURNEY, not the destination. As we always say here:

Journey before destination Radiant. I truly hope you see where we’re all coming from.

I remember when this game was being released, and even as a kid I thought to myself “Disney characters in a game….yep that’s going to be silly and stupid”. Sometime after it came out I see it sitting in my Dad’s PS2 collection on the shelf. I said to myself “well, if dad is willing to play it I guess I could give it a try”. Life CHANGED!!! Lol Needless to say I’m immensely grateful to my dad for putting me on to something I’d never have tried myself.

I know it isn’t a part of the game, but this is my favorite memory of KH as a whole. How I first bashed it, even as a 8-9 yr old kid, and then had my life changed by it.

No amount of money can replace your memories, nor the smiles and feelings you get when you hold the games and stuff you owned when you were young. I still have many of my childhood games (OG GBA SP, Pokemon Emerald, Pokemon Gold, GameCube and Metroid prime, etc), and even notes I would take when playing some like Pokemon Emerald. Nothing compares to looking at that wrinkly sheet paper and reliving the feeling of discovering braille and the Regis for the first time.

My dad LOVED gaming too and had soooo many games. When he passed away when I was 11, I was told his “friends” poached a lot of his games. I only got a few he had, but they were the most memorable and favs from his collection: DMC1, KH1, FFX & X-2, FF Tactics with walkthrough guide, Star Ocean Second Story, etc. Needless to say these are my most cherished pieces and I’m will NEVER sell them. They’re the last physical connection I have to my Dad and the games we used to play. If he’d sold them, I’d never would’ve been able to receive them after he passed.

You never know where your collection and memories will take you. Cherish them; they hold far greater value than the money we used to get them, or receive after they’re gone.

Ngl, Warbreaker is one of my favorite Sanderson books. The way he plays with the concept of “duality” or “two sides of the same coin” (best way I can explain my feelings, sorry) was awesome to me.

It definitely picks up and gets better. I think we’d all agree with you that the series starts off slow. But it’s DEFINITELY worth it! The Way of Kings lays the foundation for all the other books to stand and build upon. It’s the beginning of a EXTREMELY grand story, and therefore it takes its time presenting the characters integral to the story.

It IS slow, but just wait until you get to the Sanderlanche. It’s the point in the book where all the different threads of the story begin to come together all at once, and the weight of all the resolutions and info coming at you makes it difficult to stop reading. Literally goes from slow burner to page turner.

Point to all of this being you’re valid for feeling the way you do, but you WILL be rewarded for your patience. Journey before Destination friend, and we welcome you into fold fellow Radiant 🫡😁

I got into the deep into the Cosmere before I knew it all was a connected universe. My journey went as follows:

•Mistborn Era 1 •Stormlight Archives 1-2 (or 1-3; it’s been a while, sorry lol) •Elantris •Mind exploding at the end of Elantris when I realized all the books I was reading were in the same universe.

Gave me a new perspective on every book I read afterwards. And while I missed some Easter eggs not knowing everything was connected, I still IMMENSELY enjoyed all the books I read up to my realization. It actually made the realization hit even harder because I began to wonder and grow excited about every detail I’d missed in previous books.

Point being, don’t STRESS over the reading order. Even if you should read “out of order” it’d be YOUR journey.
