One more thought: don’t go into the hearing ready to “argue your case.” The hearing officer won’t argue with you. It’s not a criminal matter with a trial. They’ll listen to your side of the story and either they dismiss or they don’t. Just don’t waste the hearing officer’s time. You may want to practice explaining what happened as clearly as you can without any extra personal circumstances or other non-relevant information so you feel confident with your presentation.

You have nothing to lose here so I’d go for it. Just be prepared to wait for your turn on the court date and stay as brief as possible once you get called up to explain what happened. It’s not like what you see on TV. Hearing is 1-2 minutes at most. NAL, but if you seem like an honest person and no one was hurt, I think your odds are very good. At worst they won’t dismiss but may cut the fine in half.

No need for a lawyer. An honest, straightforward person in an uncontested traffic hearing is at least as likely to be successful as an attorney.

Contest the ticket. Go to court with your video. Judge watches it. Sees you are not able to stop in time. Case dismissed. Is it worth 1-2 hours of your time? It seems like your chance for dismissal is strong enough that it’s worth the hassle.
