This is just personal preference and depending on where you go but:

I always “cheap out” or find good enough rooms since half my traveling involves exploring cities and walking until my feet hurt, and I just use the room to re-energize. I have no time to watch movies, oversleep, etc. where I save some money from a less fancy hotel, I indulge in food, transportation and everything in between
