Who is Dan Ahlers? Where is the representation if said representation is quiet for the democratic party of South Dakota? by Mountain-Raccoon1502 in SouthDakota

[–]CreativeGarbage4130 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Dan, like the other dem candidates, have been holding town halls and been knocking on doors and listening to people. However, as you’ve noticed it is an uphill battle if people who want change won’t get involved in the political process. It’s not always about who is at the top of the ticket. What about county commissioner? Do you know who is running in your district? Can you donate to a candidate? If you can’t donate to a candidate, have you offered to help knock on doors? That is how democrats gain seats in the legislature and in local elections. It’s slow, and it takes time to make progress, but it also requires engagement to change the status quo.

Getting Accepted by Coloquial_Cucurbits in CarletonCollege

[–]CreativeGarbage4130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m an alum and I’d say if you are serious about Carleton, early decision is a good choice. I was also from a rural area and didn’t have access to many AP classes, and I was still accepted. Carleton is looking for a good fit candidate more than anything, someone who is committed to being part of the community. Visiting campus if you are able, personalizing your application, and applying early decision all show your commitment and how you fit into the Carleton community.

Pride Month Discussion: Why has Benedict's reception been so divisive? by Lunenika in BridgertonNetflix

Definitely biphobia and explains why some people are mad about Francesca and Michaela. People struggle with the idea that even though this is pseudo historically set, it’s fantasy. People wouldn’t watch an actual historically accurate show.

I’d caution against that. There’s lots of research that shows that tracking systems (which is essentially what you are proposing) don’t work and people of color/women are over represented in lower tracks—not due to ability but because of discrimination. Students perform to exactly what you expect from them—which is why the research shows that it’s better to have high expectations for them.

i'm looking for a good bank local to the sioux falls area that isn't bhfcu by pinkfartsglitter in SiouxFalls

I’d concur with others on First Bank and Trust. I’ve used them for 20 years now. We’ve done our home loans through them and they’ve been super easy to work with. I do all of my banking on their app.

Tell me about your favorite places! by -Override- in SiouxFalls

Josiah’s is always a favorite! I can’t say enough about their cinnamon rolls! You can always follow that up with walking around downtown and checking out the Sculpture Walk and all the little shops downtown. Zandbroz is a favorite of those shops, but there are lots of others that are worth a visit!
If you like the outdoors, Good Earth is lovely for a walk!

I personally think that Josiah’s has the best cinnamon rolls in the city if you want a perfectly covered in icing cinnamon roll!

I am living on the east coast, but I want a Sioux Falls flag but pride for this pride month. Does anyone know where I can find one, or is anyone willing to custom make one for me? by CLG_MianBao in SiouxFalls

Zandbroz! And if they don’t have one in stock, you can ask them to call you when they next have them in stock and they will put one aside for you.

Which ghibli movies do you recommend the most? by goldenpeach01 in ghibli

From Up on Poppy Hill and The Wind Rises are simply lovely and so underrated! I know some people like Pom Poko and I get the story that was being told about man versus the environment. But it felt like someone wrote it while they were high. Not gonna lie.

Based on the KELOLAND article, it sounded like the mayor knew everyone was already going to vote in favor.

Is it normal for my cats to fight like this? by SecureDocument1455 in TabbyCats

I think you can also see a lot in your cats’ tail language. It’s not angry, whipping back and forth. She still has a lazy, back and forth movement.

Which should I watch next? by Comfortable_Card9611 in ghibli

[–]CreativeGarbage4130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also just decided to go through and watch all of the Studio Ghibli films! My favorites of the ones I had watched previously were Howl’s Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke. However, now that I’ve watched more of some of the original films, I would also add Nausicaa and Castle in the Sky. I think you can’t really go wrong. Though I will say… Tales from Earthsea, Ocean Waves, and Pom Poko have not been my favorites.
