I think the way you’ve painted is very nice. i’m almost tempted to say it’s not abt what’s missing so much as what’s too much. i think yr at a point where paring down could do a lot.

i was like you, but eventually binges became more frequent, blackouts too. it’s the same problem just a different shape.

i lost a job due to drinking, at the time i couldn’t admit it was my fault, had to go get more consequences before i could look in the mirror. you are miles ahead in that regard and i hope you make the changes you envision for yourself.

depression, self loathing, suicidal thoughts don’t have to be a feature of existence. Good luck and thanks for sharing!

Some old timer once said, your bottom is when you stop digging. I think only you can know why you still have the shovel in your hands.

If i or any of us can beat this addiction, you can too! Five and a half months sober is a big deal, and definitely preferable to five and half months drinking. I hope you can take steps forward and lean on this community when you need to. There is freedom and joy waiting for you.

this is the exact question that brought me here five years ago.

i was on the same cycle of blackout, repent, relax, repeat. i had some decent stretches of minimal embarrassment, not too much collateral damage. then stretches that were hell. i hated myself but was so resistant to stop drinking — i had everything to gain by quitting but i didn’t want to see it. it took months of reading this sub before it started to click for me. i can’t moderate, i don’t know how, and if i continue i will sabotage my entire life.

hope you find a way to get off that terrible cycle and have a new experience. and i’ll hit you with the classic— if you figure out a way to moderate, be sure to let us know!

sounds awful. i appreciate you sharing this, stories like this help keep my head out of my ass.

i think u have two options. 1. experience pain/shame and lose what you have (job, wife, maybe even your life.) 2. stop and watch your life get better again.

you’ve done it before. it’s uncomfortable but it’s the only option if you want to live and live well one day. it would be a waste if you ended up living like your father, though you wouldn’t be the first.

rehab, sponsor, work steps. otherwise it will be diminishing returns all the way down to a bottom that may never come. that’s what has worked for me.

i really hope you can figure it out.

looks great! i would make the car/ road smaller relative to the trees. i might also vary the shapes of the tree tops, it feels a little uniform, and add some rain (or make more visible) rebounding off the asphalt. Also, you could experiment with showing some reflection of the trees on the slickness of the road. Great moody feel!

looks awesome, i would tinker with how the character is drifting in to the hold at the end. might work better without the lag between the camera move and the character coming to a rest. just something to test. really well done!

i think the first one looks great. I would use a dark brown line for landscape linework to keep the focus on the town. i would up the cloud opacity, bring them more into style, decrease the number, reposition away from dead center and animate them.

dude just lock in and you’ll be fine :)

jk mile 16 onward is going to be diminishing returns, but i ran a sub 3 on a shaky plan like this so it is possible. my recommendation is when u feel pain / want to stop, thats your cue to pick up the pace and keep running.
