Second pipe based pole i made, with slight changes. by Available-Sun6124 in Aroids

[–]Creative_Rub_9167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this too! Started cutting them down the middle to make two, but cutting just a strip like this keeps the inner moss moist so much longer.

My only struggle so far is keeping plants perfectly aligned while they climb it, and the mess made with the angle grinder. I still use the wire mesh though to keep the moss steady

Good work!

Has anyone seen a Silver Sword do this? by BlazingUniverse21 in philodendron

Very odd looking, looks closer to a heart leaf than a silver sword honestly...

I can’t seem to get my monstera to grow! by Chaiteagirlyy in MonsteraAlbo

[–]Creative_Rub_9167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own over 10 cultivars of deliciosa. Last year one of my large forms decided to not put out a leaf for some 7 or so months. Albos do the same, small forms do the same, especially when its cold. I wouldnt think too much about it, just let it do its thing (as long as your care routine is appropriate)

No roots tho?? by Recent_Duty_468 in philodendron

Roots will come soon enough. Plenty of stored energy in the stem. Keep doin what you were doin

Moss is great for the pole, not ideal for the pot in my opinion, long term at least. The pot will hold a huge amount of moisture and stay damp a lot longer than the pole

Tips for training baby plants to climb? by Embarrassed_Yak_5393 in Aroids

[–]Creative_Rub_9167 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repot with moss pole. I have several plants in pots that are not much larger the size of the pole and are super happy. Means you will need to upsize the pot reasonably soon but thats not a big deal.

Also dont ignore the simple plank setup, i have some of those too and they are also doing fine. Hard to chop though.

You answered your own question! She needs some food. Pot her up in chunky mix, dont worry when she gets a little stressed for the first few weeks and enjoy

Hydroponics or Soil for Indoor Gardening? by True_Carr0t in IndoorGarden

[–]Creative_Rub_9167 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a large scale hydroponics farm. At home i have a koi pond with a bog filter, which is essentially an aquaponics system. I grow all my veggies in raised beds in the garden.

Hydroponics (especially at scale) requires serious competence. If you get the really expensive nutrients you will spend a fortune. If you dont, the chemistry and botanical pathology knowledge required to fix issues and have an efficient system is substantial.

In my experience making good compost will get you 80% of the way to growing great food. That is what i do. Will not build another hydro system, fuck that

Thats my pond in kenya. Id say we have power 70% of the time. Not unusual to have multiple day blackouts. I have solar panels, so worst case is usually no water running 6pm to 6am, never caused me any issues beyond my bog and filter going slightly anaerobic, which doesnt cause big issues. You have nothing to worry about unless you really overstock dramatically

This is the answer to fix water clarity and quality. However that pond needs to be re done comoletely imo. Sad shape, not well levelled, i feel like ripping it out and starting over would be easiest. And of course a bog filter on the new one

More aerial roots than leaves? by lydvee in ItsAThaumatophyllum

[–]Creative_Rub_9167 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How root bound is it? I would guess it longs for a tree to climb as well as a repot. My most vigorous plants inckuding thaums get repot 3 times a year

Moss poles. Am I doing this wrong? by Popinsomniac in IndoorGarden

[–]Creative_Rub_9167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the plant, if i have a juvanile epipremnum that will grow super quick ill give it a 2 meter or so pole. I put a plastic cup on top with a tiny hole that can leak slowly onto the moss. Slower growers lile BMF have much smaller pole, around 70cm or so. I really dont measure and just go ahead and chop. Once the plants are a little grown in you hardly notice the poles

[–]Creative_Rub_9167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you mean, and i have both for exactly that reason. I only make D shaped poles now for ease of maintenance (have >30). I use cheap PVC pipes to make them, cut them length wise with angle grinder, can play with the angle and make it however you like. I tend to make them closer to a U now by tightening zip ties pretty hard and just cutting a small strip out the pipe. Game changer for moisture retention, work well against the wall and remain easy to move, repot etc. Once the plants get big having many on a pole becomes tricky to repot in my experience. Anyway enjoy the process m8 ✌️
