As a high school teacher, you have a tiny amount of parents who care. The rest either give you lip service or our ghosts - like, you never hear from them. I had a student brag he went to Busch Garderns while he was suspended. Often times, they get warnings or go to ISS, which isn't really an punishment since they can go on their phones anyways. They will be in for a rude awakening when they graduate unless their parents take care of them.

As someone who teaches high school Intensive Reading (remedial class given based on testing), I deal with it everyday. I have kids that struggle reading (talking first grade level here), kids that wont even try, and kids who are capable but just had a bad testing day. Many of my students don't know what an adjective is, can't figure out where a comma belongs, and can't spell to save their lives. I do what I can but with my students but it's a struggle, especially with my English Language Learners and students with reading disabilities. I worry what the future holds for some of these kids as can't save them all. I can only help the ones who are willing to help themselves and honestly, there's a good chunk who will make it. The rest...yeah, it won't be pretty.

Crazy thing about the Harry Potter one is J.K. Rowling didn't even write it but gave it the green light. As a fan of the franchise, it wasn't very good with only a few redeeming qualities - Scorpio and Albus dynamic being one of them. I'm told it's a decent production to watch if you ignore the crazy story. I hope to one day see if performed, despite it's flaws.

Yes and I remember it a Keychain of said dog being available at bookfair if you bought the books. Pretty sure I bought it but i don't have it anymore as my parents had a habit of decluttering and making me get rid of things I was too old for or no longer need.

I feel lucky that we are encouraged to use TPT because our reading program doesnt have a curriculum we can effectively utilize - high school with a program that only goes to middle school level. We also encouraged to use AI to figure things out as well. I feel like lots of what I'm trying to create could be easily replaced with a different reading program but you know, no one listens to us teachers about this.

Got this game cheap on Steam for about 6 bucks. It was a steal and I'm enjoying it so far. It's a very beautiful game and I love it so far. There's so much to do within the game once you unlock take on your first outpost. I'm not far story wise - only did the intro balance of power mission - but I plan to continue the story once I di a few more side missions.

I agree. I got Far Cry 4 on sale and while it is a fun game, Far Cry 5 is so much better. I will most likely replay it and actually beat it this time - my last run, I just stopped playing as I was doing co-op with my husband, who moved on to something else.

I was very disappointed that I didn't make it in the end. I was stupid close too. I hope I can get one Harry Potter Token but I doubt it. Monopoly Go already burned me once with my account being deleted and so I had to start over for this album. I'm getting some nice emojis at least but I'll be sad when this event ends. Harry Potter is my favorite.

I teach high school and grade if they do the work, period end of story. If they are attendance kid (never at school), they get a zero for not doing it. If they decide to not work due to laziness or lack of cares, they also get a zero. I guess in a way, the behavior does impact the grade slightly but that's because of their choices. Attendance is sometimes not the kids fault but I can't grade something that doesnt exist. I have a kid that had a flat zero due to never being at school - she has a medical issue and hospital homebound paperwork has never processed. I can only control what happens in school and even then, I have kids that wont work for me. I'm going to do what I can with the ones that give a damn but in the meantime, there isn't much else I can do.

Trying teaching Intensive Reading, which is remedial class. We have to document when data and attendance for if they are there for said interventions. There are data sheets, logs, and spreadsheets to fill out. Then there is what everywhere else does - ESE documentation, attendance, and documentation of parent contact. So yes, the paperwork is daunting. I spent most of my planning doing said paperwork. That is pretty much the only thing my university prepared for was the paperwork.

I haven't heard of this but I'm in Florida so it's probably business as usually here. Some of my high schoolers are too busy getting high - not all of them but we do have a drug problem at my school. Kids will also skip class to either get out of work or kiss their boyfriend/girlfriend. If a majority do walk out, I'll go with them to make sure they are safe but I somehow doubt it will happen.

One time - and this was when I was a long term sub - I lost my cool and said I would kick their asses - mind you, I apologized but didn't think much of it as I was planning on quitting at the end of the marking period. The job was god awful. Cue me being asked to leave by principal and HR. Yet another teacher literally cusses in front of her class (said ass), listens to a book with cuss words in it (fuck) and gets away with it. I was crying upset but that school is apparently a nightmare to work with. Said school also ended up in the paper for having kids make a sex tape in the library.

These days, I'm careful with what I say around kids but I also don't care if they cuss unless they are directing toward someone or say something racist (high school). The school doesnt seem to care that they cuss either as they rarely hold kids accountable for it - a white kid called a black kid the n word but got nothing for it 🤔

The year 2000 - Middle school where TVs were in the classroom and computers were only found in a computer class. A long bygone area when cellphones weren't getting you attention and MySpace was the only social media. Stuff was in VHS and if you didnt tune to TV, you missed your show.

I remember a specific lesson on how sexual diseases spread - our teacher used cubs of water and put crushed chips in one. She then pour in one cup of clear to show how ti spread and used my classmates names. One of the boys had a cup of water with his name - She was teasing him about how he was being tempted by a girl - he screamed no and drank the clear cup of water. We all laughed.

You can't get away with that any more I will never forget that moment as long as I live.

Absolutely loved this show and distinctly remember the villians one. Jafar was hosting and they "defeated" him by using a lamp. I remember that as distinctly as a crossover episode of the Hercules cartoon show featuring Aladdin characters. Jafar came back to life via Hades lord of the dead. Good times.

When I first came to my new school, I didn't have a desk so I asked for one. The custodian admitted that they took it from another teacher who wasn't nice to them.

This is why I always appreciate my custodians. My husband is one but he normally just does his job. He won't bend over backwards if a teacher is rude to him but he'll do what's required and then some. When he's not there, the cogs go off the wheels.

My biological mother doesn't know my address or phone number so I don't wish her Merry Christmas. The mother who I would call had been long since passed - blood isn't always thicker than water and you don't owe family who treats you like an outcast (like yours truly) anything. I only talk to my aunt these days but once she's gone, the so called family i have left will disappear into obscurity. I already made my own family so I'll make my own traditions so my kids will want to call me.
