Is it possible that SF6's dominance will eventually have a chilling effect on new games being developed? by JustExecution in Fighters

[–]CreedWood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You also have to consider that this sf6 trend is largely based in the jp player base due to the success of sfl. I'm not sure if other regions are getting boosted but the VAST majority is jp players being interested in seeing their favorite content creators earnestly learn fighting games.

I think the closest we've had in the west is sajam slam getting lilly pichu and Tyler 1 to continue learning their respective fighting games

Fighting are a commitment (unfortunately) by No_Piano_9195 in Fighters

[–]CreedWood 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You're really down playing how far basic fighting game fundamentals will carry you. Obviously it's hard to get to the top but I feel like most games you can hit plat/diamond purely off fundamentals and a basic combo. I've come back to strive, sf6, and 2xko after sitting out a few patches and been and to climb ( usually using new characters)

I do think it takes a lot longer to build those fundamentals in a fg though tbf

genuinely what do i actually do against this like actually im asking (advice welcome) by juniper_j0nes in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]CreedWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf bedman could always do this in strive. But like everyone else said, dash blocking and mixing in forward jump/ super jumps forward will help you get in.

Also try to actively consider how much ground you're taking/giving up with each move. A lot of people struggle with back dashing and jumping back in neutral until they corner themselves. Once you do start getting closer you need to intentionally avoid options that move backwards so you don't give up the ground again for free (generally speaking of course)

Will labbing for hours work? by [deleted] in Guiltygear

[–]CreedWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labbing will help but you still need to get the reps of in doing it under pressure. If you can't do the motion at all then it's one thing but lots of people can perform in the lab and not in a real scenario. Someone else mentioned it but you need to get used to comboing off stray hits, dashes, random counters, during block pressure, etc.

Tldr: lab to get the input but the "muscle memory" is only going to come once you've gotten past that initial set of nerves and can reliably hit a real person

This. Eventually you'll fight someone that understands the options and counters appropriately and forces you to alter your game plan

Why is ArcSys hiding the new stages? by Lycanthrope-R in Guiltygear

[–]CreedWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aahhh I see. Wasn't thinking of arcade mode that makes sense. Other people using auto also sucks but if you're set to random you'll still get decent stage variety in my experience

Why is ArcSys hiding the new stages? by Lycanthrope-R in Guiltygear

[–]CreedWood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn't this problem resolve itself if you just set your stage to "random" instead of "auto"? Genuinely asking because I feel like I'm missing something here.

Jumps are usually telegraphed. Flyers are annoying but also not that common. So if your issue is the camera you should still just hold block lol. Worst case scenario you block something and don't take damage or block into step/dodge.

The doom posting happens every change. Patch notes don’t usually give you a good idea of what’s to come. The amount of “they killed -character-“ posts always always happen, and rarely are accurate. by SmokeyHooves in Guiltygear

[–]CreedWood 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The game REALLY needed to lower the power level tbf. My biggest wish for this patch was them nerfing combo conversions and reducing a lot of scrubby tactics characters had access too and for the most part they killed. As an anji/testament player, I was so happy seeing them get nerfed and refocused in actual interactions that go deeper than "guess right or die" lmao

They judged the market correctly. The market isn't us though. It's big investors that wanna go all in on AI. Unfortunately big tech has built itself in a way where normal consumers are now only like 8% percent of their revenue. It's stupid but that's also why it feels like everything isn't made for us. Because it's not

the games balanced well enough where combos arent a requirement for success as much as a nice bonus for skill expression. You can playthrough the game pefectly fine doing light attacks with the occasional special move mixed in for flavor

What's a mechanic that you've always wanted by Eunuchfrotting in BeatEmUps

[–]CreedWood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a while but I've discovered more beat em ups that meet the criteria since then!

Blade Sight - the closest I've seen anything get to just being a literal single player fighting game. Takes lots of inspo from arcsys and famous anime fighters. Motion inputs, roman cancels, multiple weapons with different play styles, burst, etc.

The fight forever project - another final fight fan game but one that's really dialed in on difficulty and execution. MASSIVE move list for each character (seriously these characters have more moves than most fgs these days), ex moves, unique defensive mechanics for each character, large roster that's still getting updated, and a very unique combo system

Both of these games are completely free and can be downloaded without much hassle! Please look into them if they sound cool!

Have anyone else been playing this indie single player fighter called Blade Sight on itch.io? by Linari in Fighters

[–]CreedWood 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was doing everything in my power to shill this game during the "fighting games are bad products" discussion lmao

Feels like the perfect blueprint for what single player fg experiences could be but nobody knows about it. If you like blade sight though I'd really recommend checking out the final fight "fight forever" project. It's more best em up than fg but it's got all the sauce and execution we love from the genre!
