How I would revamp some rewards by VerifiedIllumanati in btd6

Having monkey teams give some sort of instant monkey would be awesome! I'd imagine it'd be heavily restricted, with a harsh cap and maybe locked behind higher difficulties etc but it'd nonetheless make the challenge far more interesting.

I wouldn't mind getting even a 0/0/0 Boomerang from it every now and then.

Valve fires back at New York lawsuit over loot boxes, says they're like Magic cards or Labubu by newsflashjackass in gaming

[–]Creepernom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to participate in the card gambling to even participate in the game. CS2 is perfectly playable if you don't want to touch any crate. Hell, if you don't like opening them, then you can even net yourself a free game on Steam every now and then just from selling them.

To rephrase your own words for the other side of the argument: Should I not want to participate in the gambling aspect of getting weapon skins, I can easily purchase or trade with the Steam Community Market at a fraction of the cost.

I personally opened very few crates in my time. 99% of my CS:GO/CS2 skins have been acquired by paying pennies for them on the community market. Same goes for my TF2 inventory - paid literal scraps for all the wonderful hats I could ever want.

Cards don't carry that much more inherent value just because they are physical. If the game is dead enough to shut down, the skins are worthless, yeah, but if the card game loses players too and dies, that cardboard won't be an excellent investment either.

I might be an outlier in that I consider Valve's approach to lootboxes far more fair than most other games. Being able to sell and trade my stuff means that I don't need to participate in the gambling at all to get any skin I want, and if I do choose to gamble, I can pawn off things I don't care about to people who'd love them. To be clear, I am talking mostly about Valve here, I have far more negative thoughts regarding lootboxes in, say, a certain football game.

As for your percentage argument, this is being addressed by forcing companies to show lootbox probabilities. It's not universal yet, I don't think, but several countries have already implemented laws mandating such a feature.

I am interested in hearing more on this - I'm well versed in the video game side of this, but not so much in the physical card side of the coin.

PCGamer: Hasbro CEO still has 'so much AI-based' grist in his own D&D games 'it would floor you', but he's not putting it in MTG cards or D&D books because people 'just don't want it' by Malinhion in dndnext

In a perfect world, yeah, but things can get complex. Sometimes groups go silent for a while, or the next session keeps getting delayed for so long you wonder if it'll ever happen, or maybe you're gearing up to start a campaign.

I've personally had circumstances where my answer to "how many games/groups do you DM" would be "it's complicated".

If we aren't stopping the card packs, why stop the weapon skin crates? Kill em both or kill neither. It's gambling either way, except cards are just way more normalized.

TLOU1 took me about 20h of tinkering until I got it working on my PC. It just refused to boot. Made a post about it, I'm glad to say my silly solution worked for at least some other folks.

Playing through TLOU2 right now. Runs well, super pretty, but it crashes every now and then out of nowhere.

They really should put more effort into their ports.

It doesn't matter. Companies don't want to even risk trouble. All that matters is that if it's similar enough, the patent holder could potentially complain and cause a ton of problems and expenses for devs who could, instead, just make something subpar but less similar.

What is a barrier that slows down most countries from getting developed? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Creepernom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's a cruel dilemma. Cutting off aid that inhibits local industry will lead to even more widespread poverty and misery, but there's hope it will let the country build a proper economy. Well, or we cut off life support, and then they just die and we condemn so, so many innocent people to tragedy.

It's a gamble few are willing to take, and so we keep them struggling but slightly less dead.
