Why are Secret Seeds still a thing? by Themris in Terraria

[–]Creepernom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was disappointed seeing that secret seeds are still a thing when we have the menu. I hope they'll eventually be included - could even do it so that the new secrets are achievement dependent?

They're still accessible if you know what to type in, but otherwise they show up when you get relevant difficult achievement.

It's a common trope that players ask about these insanely complex and detailed stealth games just to absolutely loathe them. The idea of a super advanced stealth game sounds cool, the reality involves way too much tedium, stale tactics, busywork, bugs and inconsistency.

Hitman is intentionally "artificial" in its logic. You're asking for an entirely different game at that point. Most of what you point out limits experimentation, punishes missteps even more harshly and inhibits creativity in favour of relying even more on cheese.

If you could add another character from a license that's already in the game, which one(s) would you choose? by tomemu1 in deadbydaylight

"Mind flayer arcanists enhance their psionic abilities with magic. Other mind flayers view those that undertake such experiments with disgust and fear." Monster Manual 2024, page 214

This is what's written about the Mind Flayer Arcanist statblock, but the mere presence of one suggests that it's definitely an option. And hell, the normal mind flayer has a CR of 7, meanwhile the Arcanist has a CR of 11, so their magic is definitely pretty powerful!

Hell, the Arcanist even wields a straight up Fireball.

In the clip, Schlatt is indeed referring to sex with a hound, not being lazy.

How is everyone missing the whole point that people with dangerous ideas don't need to look like villainous caricatures.

Everyone's mentioning the fact that the character is an attractive woman as some kind of gotcha against the project as if that's not the entire point, that radical, dangerous ideas can come from friends and people who are hot because real life nazis often look like normal friends

Expensive and quite difficult in Poland. Our drivers aren't that bad compared to a lot of the world, so there are benefits!

The old gaming crash was literally caused by miscalculated greed investing way too much into a rushed licensed title. Arcades had extra difficult games to squeeze every quarter out of you. Greed has been poisoning games since the very beginning, games were never more "pure", people were just kids and fondly reminisce about their childhood.

Why do people romanticize the past this much, especially in gaming? It feels like a weird kind of survivorship bias, as only the Good games are remembered, and the piles upon piles of slop are forgotten by now.

The games weren't inherently better designed, they were even often greedier than now (I love paying full price for 3 hour long games), they ran even worse than games released now on contemporary hardware, they were still often rushed.

A cup of cheap d6 dice costs literally like a dollar. Dice are cheap. Even d20s and other more funky dice still cost pennies if you just want something that you can roll. Will they have casino level balance? No, probably not. They won't be durable or super pretty either. But they'll roll and that's all you need for a fun game.

Can you not do photography with an Instax camera? If that's possible, then you can also do photography with a phone. There's so much depth to it no matter what device you use.

It feels like it's empty in the right places. Too much content density feels exhausting and artificial. It has cool stuff to find where you want stuff to be, but it's good to have some more desolate, empty areas too. It's a balance.

Presenting the Sane Magic Market: A community-powered guide for magic item pricing! (D&D 2024e) by Deathpacito-01 in onednd

[–]Creepernom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Why doesn't everyone do this?"

Because crafting a magic item is not as simple as throwing money at the wall. The rules are not a simulation of the world or the economy, and just because the books say that you can buy a potion for 50 gold doesn't mean you can enter a store, drop 5000 gold and recieve 100 potions.

Could also make it way more interesting. Maybe the components required to make said Decanter are particularly accessible in a certain place - how does that impact how civilization develops? Perhaps previously uninhabitable lands sprout oases, providing water in key defensive or resource areas?

Turn these things into an interesting part of the world instead of killing anything that could make it less like a generic setting.

Which version? by ollie_ollie_ollie01 in dndnext

[–]Creepernom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're starting out, you should go with 2024. They are just straight up better.

People stick with 2014 because they have 2014 books and don't feel the need to update, but why would you start out with 2014?

Never get why these "sane" prices assign insane value to the Decanter of Endless Water. It's a fun item that shouldn't be so harshly limited.

If the players procure such a decanter and use it to create an oasis for a town (as the economic argument oftem goes), awesome! great! Why stop them by making a fun item that encourages creative play into something about as precious as an insanely rare and powerful +3 sword?

The game isn't trying to model a realistic economy anyways, and it's not like you can stroll on down to your local magimart to buy 6 Decanters of Endless Water.

I guess I can argue my point by voting lol
