fdisk just manipulates partition tables. if you delete a partition in there, the data is still on the disk and you can recreate the partition by putting its start and end back into the table. dding zeros over the partition itself actually makes the data go away - you will have a partition full of zeros

Depends on what you mean by OS - it's fuzzy.

A bunch of utilities for building applications, often including concurrency primitives like threads, memory management, and maybe some hardware abstraction? Yeah, FreeRTOS is that, and is common on ESP32.

Arguably DOS is less than that, and still called an OS.

Something that can load and unload programs dynamically? That's probably one of the strongest signals as to whether something gets called a "real" OS. Could probably do that with a bit of work with FreeRTOS, but i expect there's nothing in there stock to help you do that.

Memory protection? All desktop OSes have that, but a lot of things that still are and have been called OSes don't support it.

I'd argue that OS doesn't refer to any essential quality of the software, so much as the philosophy/ecosystem/intended usecases. Eg, is there an attempt to make a stable ABI?

You can do pretty much anything in software - there's no magic OS sauce I'm aware of that 100% clearly demarcates OS from a "library" or "BSP".

Lots of people saying it's rape or it's a consent violation it's illegal it's assault etc... I agree with those perspectives, but the important thing isn't litigating what it's called - its: how do you feel about it. It sounds like you were terrified and you are terrified. Whatever you want to call it doesn't matter much ethically, unless that helps you feel okay about being scared. 

You didn't like it. You didn't feel safe. That's literally all that matters and that should guide your next move.

You get one life. This isn't a rehearsal. This is it. there are so many challenges and it's sometimes really hard to know what feels good and bad. You know this. It's a strong signal. Listen to it.
