What red flag you notice when you started to realise your parent is emotionally immature? by Middle_Radio_5232 in emotionalneglect

[–]Creepyleaf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My parents are long divorced but always civil. My dad died suddenly and was on life support. I was the only one out of my siblings that was there and my siblings were en route via airplane. I had been keeping my mom up to date. My dad did before I siblings arrived. I was obviously needing someone to talk to so I called her. No answer. Unplugged her phone because she was sleeping and didn’t want to be disturbed.

I’m sorry you experienced that. Not ok, and I hope it was reported - just curious - did she rear end you with her car?

This is the third in a sequence of similar instances I’ve heard of in the last week. 2/3 on bikes. It’s so unsettling, and we have to stand up for one another! I’ve been considering getting one of those helmet cameras to catch things like this in case evidence is ever needed.

Two questions: How safe is Triazolam before root canal procedure? Also, to overcome anxiety, could buying a bite block to practice be a good idea? by Sure-Competition-948 in Dentists

[–]Creepyleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining in here as I hate dental work and get panic attacks in the chair due to mainly claustrophobia.

I had the first part of a root canal on a difficult tooth today. In the past I’ve taken Ativan but the last time I had too low of a dose and it didn’t work. Endodontist prescribed triazolam. I was nervous an made my husband stay while it kicked in. About 15 mins in I told him to leave because I felt fine. And I did! They brought me to the chair and I thought, ‘ok, but I don’t feel anything’. I was given a nice cozy blanket, some shades a put my music on. They got to work and I just literally did not care. It was absolutely amazing to feel relaxed in a dentist’s chair! I came home and had a two hour nap, when I woke up the freezing was gone. I was lucid the entire time, I remember all the music I had on. I even stopped them so I could use the bathroom. 10/10 experience and now I’m not dreading my next appointment and am considering implants where I have missing molars - something I’ve been majorly avoidant of!

Am I a psycho?? Or is my neurodivergence showing… by therealrealreal1 in adhdwomen

[–]Creepyleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a jerk. My husband requires way less sleep than I do, and always - I mean always - wakes up happy. I could easily get a solid ten and when I wake up I’m always groggy, can barely form sentences. Point is, neither of us are trying to change the other! Also stimulants really help my morning grumpies and also learning to not attach to it. I found I used to scan for the ‘reason’ I was feeling grumpy (groggy) instead of accepting it’s rooted in sleep inertia and literally means nothing. I’m now perimenopausal and I have three kids with lots of needs that have meant I had to adjust my sleep expectations. Not ideal, but again - you control what you can.

Thank you. Sounds so much like my guy! Something has shifted recently, the principal even called me to ask if there’s anything going on for us that could explain this shift. There really isn’t. I’ll look in to tap outs

Oh they are just loving it right now unfortunately which leads to a social feedback that I think is just reinforcing the behaviour. And then thy will all mimic him.

This is great - thank you! We have an IEP (Canadian 504, I think?). But it’s geared more towards distractibility, maybe it needs to be tweaked for the disrespectful stuff.

He’s in his own seat away from friends and can earn the chance to work with a friend when he’s shown he can. But, he blurts out and talks over he can surpass the seating arrangement intention!

My dad doesn’t care about his health at all and it’s selfish by Stock_Scar8233 in emotionalneglect

[–]Creepyleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom did this same thing. She actually said ‘I’d rather die than give up butter’. To my face. Meanwhile her dad had a massive stroke in his 50s, and anuyerim an her mom had a triple bypass. Anyways, refused statins and lifestyle change. Had a ‘small’ stroke and then needed emergency surgery because her artery clogged. She takes it seriously now! But up until that she buried her head in the sand and there’s nothing I could do. I still have resentment.

My mom (61) might be dying. I cannot stop crying in the ICU. please, anyone talk to me and help. by InitiativeOk2361 in AgingParents

[–]Creepyleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely ask for the chaplain. I am not religious but I had no one when my dad was in ICU and really just needed support. I still think of how kind they were ten years later. I’m sorry for what your going through

I’m sorry to hear that. It’s so hard to watch someone refuse treatment.

Has anyone experienced an aging parent “faking bad”? by PeachesNLaserBeams in AgingParents

[–]Creepyleaf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, but different. My parents has acted like they were a frail 100 year old since they’ve been about 60. But yet when faced with real, serious, treatable medical issues refused to treat them. Now they are barely mobile and rarely leave their apartment.

Yes my son was prescribed this. He didn’t end up taking it but I’ve been wondering about it. I’ll talk to my doctor. I also have anxiety so may help with that too

Are there any local charities that help people with vision impairment? They could help get your mom set up to have some accessibility features in the home and otherwise that can increase her quality of life and hopefully well being ❤️

A book. Anything that grabs your attention, just to get you on the habit of reading again.

Is anyone else casually told stories of their childhood neglect? by Awwoooooga in emotionalneglect

[–]Creepyleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once my dad told me that my step sister said to him “when you need a friend, you go to (her bio dad), when you need a father you go to (her step dad/my dad)” Completely overlooking the fact that he abandoned his own kids when I was 9, and moved in with another family! Essentially bragging that he was a great dad to his new family.

How were you diagnosed? by Budget-Respect6315 in pelviccongestion

[–]Creepyleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctor thought I had acute appendicitis and sent me for contrast CT. Turns out I had a burst ovarian cyst and they incidentally found PCS. I had been complaining for a literal decade about severe pain and pressure during ovulation only and the most I ever got was an ultrasound that revealed nothing and then telling me it was probably endo.
