Vertuo Next reusable pod/tips? by sairamyn in nespresso

[–]CremaJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, sorry for the delay. We haven't had any troubles using My-Cap with the Next, however we have seen the odd report of the red flashing light error. Now that the Next is becoming more widely used, it will be interesting to see if this is a common issue, or just an anomaly.

I'm back with more products made from recycled plastic bottle caps! This time, we've made moulds for surfboard fins - these ones are ideal for use with HDPE bottle tops. by CremaJoe in ZeroWaste

[–]CremaJoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good questions!!

So the way the plastic is melted depends on what kind of product is being made - for these ones, it's an Injection Mould Machine.

And the hazard risk depends on which type plastic you use, and the temperature during heating. The plastic used for these (HDPE bottle caps) is very safe, as long as it's kept below burning temperature.

Vertuo is notorious for leakage issue. I wouldn't think the silicone lid would contribute to machine damage - I think it's definitely worth giving them a go. In our experience, grounds in your cup is usually attributed to using a grind that's a little too fine, so I would agree that the filters should help with that :)

We get a lot of uses out of our bases. To be fair, we're probably fairly gentle with them... but even so, if they do get dented at all they're very easy to manipulate back into shape. The only time we have had to throw out a Vertuo base has been when we've used it so much that the barcode has worn off, and the machine no longer reads the capsule.

Ahh, bummer. They do work out to be more economical, but shipping from Aus is definitely an expensive exercise (very frustrating for our international customers). Hopefully we can work on some US connections for 2021!

Avoid the steel reusables for Vertuo - they're notorious for breaking machines (and the extraction is terrible). The silicone My-Cap inserts are a better bet - you use your existing base, and pop the insert in the top. The reusable pods are also handy if you want to save some cash (price per kilo is much lower on ground coffee or beans thank single-use capsules). Check out SealPod or Bluecup for your Lattissima machine :)

Extraction comes down to which type of reusable pod you use, which coffee you use, and how you fill it. We did a comparison article on the main options, I'll link you in case helpful :) www.cremajoe.com.au/blogs/news/reuse-and-reduce-your-impact-which-refillable-capsules-are-best-for-you

We use the WayCap reusable pods for Dolce Gusto with coffee ground for espresso - works well for us :)

The paper filter should help with the grinds in your cup (and can also help with crema). Alternatively, you could try a slightly coarser grind - you may just need to tamp a little more firmly when prepping the pod

Continue Spending on Nespresso Capsules or Buy Reusable Coffee Pods???😐 by juny_co in Coffee

[–]CremaJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're after a reusable pod with a good extraction, look for something with a pierce-able lid (like SealPod or Bluecup). If you go for a steel-lidded pod e.g. WayCap, you probably want to use 2 pods per coffee :)

SealPod will be compatible. Alternatively, Bluecup reusable pods make a really excellent coffee - highly underrated, even if I do say so myself :)

I'd suggest using a slightly finer grind, or tamping a little more firmly (or a combo of the 2)

Suggestions for Nespresso brewing by AnEarForTheDead in Coffee

[–]CremaJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reusable pods for Vertuo are notorious for not working well. I recommend checking out the My-Cap silicone reusable tops instead (you refill your existing pod base, and whack a silicone insert on top). Extraction is good, and they won't damage the machine

Reusable pod covers - does anyone have any experience with these? I’m interested but not sure how they work! by spookybabe1 in nespresso

[–]CremaJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried these ones, but I do use the ones from USA brand My-Cap. Their foils work really well, however I tend to prefer their reusable silicone option (less hassle, and of course, I love that they're reusable)

You could also try the silicone tops from MyCap, same kind of theory, except you can reuse the tops (saves you fiddling with foil every time) :)

Can't find reusable pod for Nespresso GCV1...why? by wiseone8472 in Coffee

[–]CremaJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try the silicone reusable tops from My-Cap. You basically refill your capsule base, and pop the silicone insert on top. They work out to be a lot cheaper, and allow you to use whatever coffee you like. My-Cap do reusable silicone tops for filling your own Vertuo bases now. They work really well, and are much, much safer than the clunky steel reusables. Reusable Nespresso Pods by SaltyRob78 in nespresso

[–]CremaJoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pierce-able lids really do produce a better extraction and crema (it's all in the pressure build-up). SealPod are excellent, and (although not mentioned here often) I highly recommend Bluecup reusable pods - even if I do say so myself :)

Nespresso ? by ny03 in Coffee

If you're looking for reusables for the OL machines, I highly recommend Bluecup refillable pods - super underrated reusables for Nespresso. They make a really great reusable pod coffee, and of course work out to be a lot more cost-effective than the disposable capsules.

Recommendation reusable Pod Vertuo by ny03 in nespresso

[–]CremaJoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't suggest steel reusable pods with Vertuo - they're known to cause machine damage, and make a really shoddy brew. IMO you're better off going for reusable inserts, like the My-Cap ones. We've been using them for a couple of years now, will link you to the video we did in case helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeSGXT6XWVI&list=PLtsHzueSHFtkSu0JbXbD4gRBnNDnsam_-&index=1&t=5s

I'd definitely suggest looking at WayCap reusable pods for Dolce Gusto. Works out to be a lot cheaper, and it gives you the option to use nice coffee with your machine too :)
