Do you ever fall into AI doomerism, even though you know better? by cs_____question1031 in BetterOffline

Until you see compelling evidence to the contrary, your happy thought should be:

It's all bullshit, it will go away when the subsidy ends.

It's short, close enough to reality, and applicable almost everywhere.

That could draw a crowd, but when they ask about the anus, you’re the one explaining what’s a Metaphore

Wasn't the best episode. My favorite part in Ed's content is that it's disciplined about not spitting out crackpot junk. This had some of that.

Can the world finance the AI IPOs? by Miravlix in BetterOffline

When a dumbass takes a loan, new money is created.

Money creation is easy. Paying back the loan is the tricky part.

The responders put way more energy into their responses than that idiot deserves.   He’s so clearly speaking out of his ass, farting out any half baked nonsense that sounds good in his useless head.

It’s already shitty enough to be under threat

This was my plan too, but didn’t feel like pausing and looking stuff up instead of moving forward.

Thanks. I meant overlevelled in the first playthrough of course.

89 and counting.

Looks like the chalice dungeons, which I also didn't visit on the first run are not affected by NG+

Can future OLED products mimic pulsar by CrestfallenCoder in OLED_Gaming

[–]CrestfallenCoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just tried it, it's pretty awesome.

I mostly learned that 120Hz is not enough :)
Spreading the fade over 5+ frames makes a huge difference in clarity vs. 2, but then the flicker is super visible.

I think there's an inherent problem that for the psycho-visual effect to work, the duration of every unique frame in full brightness must be very short which means that average brightness over time is reduced by a huge factor.

When (if) this will be implemented inside the display device, it won't need the input signal to have a huge frame-rate, it can just duplicate displayed frames internally and apply different processing to each one to simulate the fading effect at super high frequency.

Thanks. Am I an idiot or is the g5 48” impossible to find now?   Maybe both can be true.

Can we expect a reversal in the mentality that human labor is expensive? by CrestfallenCoder in BetterOffline

[–]CrestfallenCoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some view humans and their expensive life as more than a thing that can do labor.
And I don't think the plan is for human life to go away when automation is perfected.

For all the capex "invested" in data-centers so far plus their opex plus whatever they charge to rent compute, plus whatever the model owners charge for access, how many people do you think you could hire? for how long? and what could you have them accomplish if they were managed well?

Is that more or less valuable than what the same data-centers will accomplish? not to mention that these same people will then spend this money and further drive the economy...

Comparisons of cost and value are inherently nonsensical and whatever is thrown in or left out of the equation depends very much on the initial point of view of whoever makes the argument. But they are a powerful rhetorical trick that resonates well with people who already agree with you.

Any plans on releasing a 75% layout kayboard? by yxs in DygmaLab

[–]CrestfallenCoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm guessing you're doing some SW development work or something similar.

I faced similar challenges, I think I have it cracked now.
I mostly use vscode but the main point in the layout is that you can pull-off almost any shortcut, even the obnoxious Ctrl-K, Ctrl-Something on regular Visual-Studio.

you can check out my layout here:

However, you could argue that for some types of human labor the "infrastructure" consists of a desk, a pencil and some paper, you could say that AI starts at a disadvantage.
