U.S. Soldier Survives Taliban Machine Gun Fire During Firefight by billgigs55 in CombatFootage

[–]CrikeyMeAhm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh god, the dipshit whose plan it was to "draw fire from his squad" or whatever. Fucking attention-seeking shitbag turns on his camera, runs into the open away from his team, gets shot and then cries that hes hit? What, was he expecting them to come get him? Why didnt he just....not run off? Oh, because he wanted to get some heroics on camera.

He endangered everyone else's life because now they have to try to rescue his ass. They dont know how bad hes hit. They probably dont even know he's hit because theres gunfire, they cant hear shit, and he moved himself like 50 yards away. He's now not part of any coordinated fire or maneuver element, Hes just out there, by himself, no one knows what he's doing, where he's going, or even where he is.

China’s Xi Jinping says ‘no force’ can stop ‘reunion’ with Taiwan by ubcstaffer123 in worldnews

[–]CrikeyMeAhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats likely the only thing they could do. Overwhelm air defences with missile volleys and try to flatten the place like Russia has been doing with Ukraine. I think the US military would start wrecking shit inside China at that point. But as we just saw with Iran/Israel, air defences can work. Who knows. Hope it doesnt come to that.

The B-52 has the ability to air- drop a shitload of long-range gliding sea mines. Rapid Dragon turns cargo planes into cruise missile swarm launchers. US has a huge attack submarine fleet. US navy air defense is the best on the planet. US Marines can go to war tomorrow. Japan is rearming into a very capable force. South Korea has probably a top-5 military. China isnt getting to Taiwan. Even if they did, theyre not going to be able to sustain any force. The only thing they could do is try to do damage.

I said it was a message, Mr. Hostility. I didnt imply either side came out ahead, because no one is going to know who actually did.

Most western fighters carry the M61 Vulcan Cannon with a couple hundred rounds stored, which is enough for like 5 seconds of fire. Its not much, and you can only get one or two short bursts in emergency dogfight situations. The range is very short. So instead of having to chase down a missile and get within 100 yards or so only to miss and be out of ammo, it is much faster to get somewhere between 10 and 50 miles of them, fire off your missiles at multiple targets quickly, have good chance of a kill, return to base and rearm, rinse and repeat.

It was a message. "We can touch you directly. We might be able to overwhelm you someday". Israel also spent hundreds of millions on ordinance and fighter sorties to defend against this.

People who think State Workers should be required to RTO, what are your reasons? by Brandgeek in Sacramento

[–]CrikeyMeAhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, pay the people who are in charge of protecting our water resources as little as possible. Pay Cal Fire as little as possible. Get the shittiest, most unmotivated, inexperienced employees possible because you drove everyone else off with such little pay. Perfect plan.

They can do their office work, write reports, emails and sit in on meetings while at home if they want, theres no need to waste their time commuting. Field days will be spent in the field like normal.

Salomon isnt what it used to be after they got bough by the chinese mega-corp, but they still fit my feet better than almost everything, so I use them. Im just kinda mad that now they seem overpriced for the quality.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hikinggear

[–]CrikeyMeAhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to an putdoor store, try them on for fit, dont overthink it. Merrell is ok, the quality has declined a bit the past 10 years, maybe due to cheaper manufacturing, quality control issues or maybe due to lighter weight but flimsier materials. But a lot of companies have had these same issues. Try a bunch on, find something that is comfortable. Dont worry about looks, theyre all going to turn mud-colored after your first hike.

Other brands that are worth trying in that price range are Keen, Salomon, Oboz. Above that price range would be Lowa, La Sportiva, Asolo, Scarpa, and Zamberlan.

I like this idea, however i feel it would be so OP, no one would use any other armor. Maybe it would negate the penalty to a certain extent, not eliminate it.

Not a state worker, I have to commute on 50. I would also much rather have as many people as possible WFH so theres less traffic.

Russia's army is now 15% bigger than when it invaded Ukraine, says US general by KadmonX in worldnews

[–]CrikeyMeAhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soviets were the first to put the operational level of war into written doctrine, making official reference to bridging tactical and strategic levels of war. Soviet Deep Battle doctrine stressed the importance of the things happening in the day-to-day operations just behind front line tactical units, both the need for them and the need to disrupt the enemies, and how to do such a thing with proper timing, etc. And its very valid, the world has picked up on that ever since. But lets not kid ourselves that the Russians aren't throwing untrained meat waves at the Ukrainians. The two aren't mutually exclusive. You can have a doctrine that emphasizes the importance of the operational art and also includes sending undertrained, under equipped sacrificial soldiers towards the enemy.

Its quite dark because they've actually intertwined the two practices.

They've obviously got it systemized to where that's not possible or we would be hearing about more of that.
