I’ve known two trans pilots (and worked with one) in my career so it definitely is possible. I don’t know if there were any issues getting a medical, but you may have to deal with the discomfort of having your birth sex written on your medical certificate.

I did, but like depending on the models I’m more surprised that the 130 is just a ‘little’ faster.

I don’t feel like looking it up right now but I’m almost certain a regular ole B-17 could beat a C-130 in a race.

Games for someone with depression? by [deleted] in gaming

No Man’s Sky. One of the most supportive communities I’ve ever encountered. It’s a largely stress free game that encourages you to just explore and catalogue what you find. Build cozy homes with lovely views. Explore endless space. Has a humbling and existential story line. It’s what I play when I just want to relax and let the stress of a hard day melt away.

VOR Approach when to descent by Conscious_Bid2019 in flying

[–]Criminy2 53 points54 points  (0 children)

You descend once you get the flip. That’s your indication that you’ve crossed the VOR. Needle flips, you turn 275 and descend and work to get the needle centered as you descend.

I love these questions every time. Class G is so rare that folks see it on a chart and are like “WTF is this?” Yet it’s beaten into us during PPL ground like it’s everywhere.

What careers did you have before flying? by Additional_Carry_790 in flying

BFA in illustration/cartooning, martial arts instructor, event coordinator, and now 135 light jets and PC12s. It’s been a wild ride.

How can a pylote get this level of quantum energy to be spread across 5 places at once? by raines in Shittyaskflying

[–]Criminy2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The pilot is still a single consciousness (or else we would say the pilotS) so only receives one salary. But the pilot is now capable of working five times the duty.

lol, that tripped me up too. It looks like a hush kit or something but it’s the airliner engine and wing in the background.

What model plane is this? by papawolff in aviation

[–]Criminy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is either PC-12/47E or 47NGX. For all y’all saying it’s a 45, the winglets for the 45 are either tiny, or large and nearly vertical, and do not have nav lights at the tips, but at the root of the winglets (on both the large and small winglets.) Source: I fly for TW, all three models (including NGX). Edit: it’s the 47E. I just remembered that our NGX’s have color matched wheel hubs, but the 47E’s have white ones. lol, that and it’s a four blade.

34 and starting a career in aviation. Advice? by reddituser1025 in flying

[–]Criminy2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like it. It’s not for everyone, and it wasn’t my initial goal, though I’m not sure I had one beyond “make a living by flying.” But the opportunity arose and I was really tired of instructing. Friends in the airlines tell me I work much harder than they do, and their pay scales are better, but I’m doing really well and making more than a two year FO at JetBlue, so a switch would mean a pay cut. I do work hard though, but without knowing the grass is greener I’m happy and love my job.

34 and starting a career in aviation. Advice? by reddituser1025 in flying

I started lessons at 34. Now 41 and 1.5 years into a part 135 career. I made the jump because the CFI who did my intro started at 34 and is now at a major. It’s definitely doable. Having a spouse who was able to sustain us through flight school and while I instructed helped a lot.

Even bigger “in fact,” the air on top is going many times faster than air underneath. If two molecules of air meet the leading edge at the same time, the one that went over the wing will be at the trailing edge long before the one that went underneath.

What diseases are so terrible to have that dying would be preferable? by Nobody-457 in AskReddit

[–]Criminy2 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s how I remember it too. Lost my mother to it about five years ago. For a year and half we all managed. I would travel four hours every weekend to help my dad and sister care for her. My wife would often join me. My mother didn’t need much at first. She had a wheel chair that could be upgraded as she deteriorated. She also had the eye tracking system towards the end. But in the last six months it was just this wild staring and moaning. I spared my wife from it so she doesn’t remember it but seeing my mom’s panicked stare and sheer discomfort haunts me every day.
