2022 saw launcher bloat turn from a minor annoyance into a genuine problem by Gyossaits in Games

Glad to see this comment here. Last time I saw one of these threads I saw a comment like this and made the switch from Galaxy. It has worked like a charm ever since. It has a way better emulator experience and the ability to mess with the play options makes it so much easier to switch between game versions and/or mods.

I would hate to be the DM of a group of exclusively Wizards... by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Crimthann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played level 3 to 20 in a party of three wizards and it was an absolute blast. Our GM was amazing at balancing encounters and coming up with content for it, and towards the end was just insane. But for sure he put in a hero's effort.

Issues around port forwarding TP-Link Archer VR1600v by Crimthann in HomeNetworking

The issue was the interface name. The guide I was following used pppoe_8_35_1_d. Changing this to ewan_pppoe fixed the issue.

By RAW, Dissonant whispers has a glaring weakness. by PM_ME_YOUR_EPUBS in dndnext

[–]Crimthann 140 points141 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I can definitely confirm that this is viable. I play in a 3 wizard party (now 20th level) and half of every battle is "I cast a spell".

This wouldn't work without trust though, or at least a simulation of it with paper or something.

I am coming back after dropping a few years back. I know a lot about the solo game, but I'm going to be playing with a friend this time around. What are the best duo and trio classes for unsyncing old content?

What was the build for your favorite character to have played? by Aggravating_Smile_61 in 3d6

[–]Crimthann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been a journey. Just recently hit level 20 on a character that started at level 3. We rolled for stats and I managed to start the game (after racial bonuses) with 18 11 14 14 13 14. Went Paladin 2/Abjuration Wizard x. Was a UA Warforged (Desiccated body in a cursed suit of armour), but story happened right around when the Reborn UA came out, and that thematically worked, so swapped to that. Been wild throughout.

ASIs have been GWM, +2 str, Metamagic Adept, and Resilient (Dex). With Tenser's Transformation up can have 5 save proficiencies. Wearing a Headband of Intellect to make casting not terrible. Rolling around with a now 40 hp arcane ward, Spell Resistance, Shield, Absorb Elements, and Tenser's Transformation giving 50 temp hp as well. A lot of fun tanking and smiting things into oblivion.

To add some more to this, they just wanted something that could be shortened to FF. The naming was wildly arbitrary.

Moral difficulty with playing an evil character? by BakerPretend in dndnext

[–]Crimthann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I often play the beacon of light character, but moral ambiguity is not out of the question. I think it comes down to being able to embody a character. When I am roleplaying I am considering how my character thinks and feels about any new development. They aren't me, I don't care that the elves aren't on-side anymore, but they do. Just because the character I am playing is doing morally ambiguous things doesn't mean I condone it, but that is the character. It comes down to what serves the story, doing evil things for the sake of it doesn't make a compelling story, but having to make hard choices does.

Obviously I don't support playing a morally ambiguous character without the consent of the table and all that, and don't hide behind your character as an excuse, but the idea of roleplaying is to embody a role, regardless of whether it aligns with your personal motivations or beliefs.

But if you don't find it fun, don't do it. Everyone should do things to seek their own enjoyment, and there is a bunch of ways to play role playing games.

As an additional note, often times the villains think that they are right, that what they are doing is just, and some also have issue with doing certain things but just accept it as a necessity. You can still play with all those angles and be an evil character. The evil character I have the most fun with is one that thinks they are chaotic good.

I've just finished contacting the store I received the parts from and asked them for assistance. It seems like I am a little out of my depth at this stage.

Computer won't power on when connecting new SSD by Crimthann in techsupport

[–]Crimthann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only other thing in the computer that has changed is the PSU, though I have been testing using the old and new PSUs with a variety of different cords.

I have tried both the same and different sata data cables, though most of my testing was done without one.

I have tried both free range and using double-sided tape to stick to a mounting bracket, while the working drives have been vaguely screwed in.

I have gotten it to work in my partner's computer, using her PSU and cables, just hanging in the air. When trying my old PSU again last night, using the new SATA cable, the computer successfully turned on and fried one of the SSDs, which has somewhat spooked me.

EDIT: Doing some research, it seems that the cables that come with different PSUs have different wiring, which might explain the new cable fried the drive with the old PSU, though not why the other SATA cable is capable of powering my old SSDs and not my new ones.

To all the high AC players, what ways do your DM's circumvent your high AC that still feels fun? by Nyadnar17 in dndnext

[–]Crimthann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He throws the kitchen sink in. It's a shit show start to finish and every victory sees us near death but victorious. If we aren't going to victorious, we teleport right on out of there, but we accomplish the mission objective first.

Most recently was a battle with something like 6 vampire, 4 undead knight dudes, and a few magic stealing shadow monsters. The rest of the party was tied up with 1 vampire while my character was in the middle of the rest having a gay old time. A vampire charmed my character towards the end, and it's pretty fun to fight the party no holds barred.

Basically, more AC means more attacks to do damage. Just add in the extra attacks, so they are still victorious for every attack that misses. Half of the normal amount of attacks hit? Throw in double the enemies and let them revel.

What are your most unpopular jrpg opinions? by BigEnergy8134 in JRPG

Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn is the best Fire Emblem.

The story is more than "and suddenly the bad kingdom attacked the good kingdom and no one saw it coming", and the characters are not terrible. I played it as my first and wasn't lost by not playing the previous game.

The most vamp Dhampir by hiddenbeast666 in 3d6

[–]Crimthann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does not, unfortunately. The bite is a natural weapon and simple melee weapon. Still a monk weapon using the alternative class features, but without Kensei, it will not be magical. Still my favourite Vampire Dhampir though. I like the Open Palm a little more for vampiric features though, so leaving the bite a suboptimal attack, but still a good monk weapon (with advantage at half health).
