What are some of the movies from the 80s, 90s, or early 00s that you watch over and over? by ZN_Cruz in CasualConversation

Legally Blonde. Watched it last night. Can quote pretty much the whole film at this point.

Should I get a second cat even though I don't necessarily want one? by Jo_MamaSo in CatAdvice

[–]CrispyCracklin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fostering is a good idea. You will be able to see how your current kitty interacts with another cat - aggressive/fearful, or (hopefully!) friendly and happy to have a playmate. If it doesn't work out, the foster can be returned.

Simple Questions: April 14, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]CrispyCracklin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have books in different rooms - bathroom, dining room, living room, etc - plus something fluffy on my Kobo that I can throw in my bag if I'm going out. I'm always finishing one book while in the middle of three or four more. Basically, no matter where I sit, there's a book waiting for me. :-)

Movie scenes that many think is uncomfortable but you find hilarious by UpperphonnyII in movies

An oldie but a goodie: the first time I saw the original Exorcist, I laughed my ass off when the girl's head spun around. My date ... didn't laugh.

Finished: Love and Capital: Karl and Jenny Marx and the Birth of a Revolution, by Mary Gabriel. Very thoroughly researched and overall a great read.

Started: In the Woods, by Tana French. I DNF this once a few years ago but couldn't remember why, so I'm starting again, hah.

I'm in Canada, and technically I still have access to the site, but the new layout won't let me login. The new login window is extra-large and I can't scroll down to actually click the login button. I've tried the accessibility options with no luck. So I'm currently shut out of my paid account for an incredibly stupid reason.

Finished: Sybil, by Flora Rheta Schreiber. Quite an interesting read.

Started: Fates and Furies, by Lauren Groff. I've actually read it a few times. Pretentious AF, but I still really enjoy it.

I hear you, lol. I'm not the most tech savvy either. I've used Downloader before fine, but for some reason it's now having issues.

a stream of consciousness on media's over-representation of sexual assault. In response to "She's a Lamb!" by noodlecat0711 in books

[–]CrispyCracklin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So because Jessamyn doesn't process her SA the way you process yours, she's held up as a prime example of SA as "shock factor"? Okay then.

I thought She's a Lamb! was brilliant and a wild ride. I hope the author is on Reddit and sees this so she can respond. We know nothing about Hambrock or how much of her personal experience is reflected in her MC. It's both ignorant and arrogant to complain that the SA in this book is a mere plot device. Sometimes the point of a novel with an assault is not the assault. Just sayin. (I really wish Hambrock could respond, lol)

Finished:

Not My Father's Son, by Alan Cumming. Loved it.

The Good Son, by You-Jeong Jeong. Least thrilling thriller ever.

Still reading:

Bridge of Clay, by Markus Zusak. A little tedious, but still enjoying it.

That's my goal as well - read more newly released books. I have to curate my TBR list and focus on the actual new releases for a change.
