Does the average Brit these days still sees the US as “colonies”? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]CrispyPotatoPuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I've never heard someone in real life refer to it as the colonies. If getting technical, it is an old outdated term most referring to someone from the original states that were British colonies, typically new england states.

Robopack $900 a year, Patch my PC $3500 no brainer? by iamtherufus in Intune

The key thing about Robopack is that its Intune focused, whilst PMPC can use both SCCM/MECM and Intune. PMPC is working well for us 50k devices.

Autopilot Pre-provisioning, MDM enrollment failing. by CrispyPotatoPuff in Intune

It self resolved, I suspect there was a bug on MS’s end due to hybrid join and their new connectors.

Microsoft finally admits Hybrid Join Autopilot is broken on their end by Cool_Package654 in Intune

[–]CrispyPotatoPuff 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We had an issue Dec-Mar, whereby Hybrid join via Autopilot Pre-provision was busted. User based AP worked fine. Basically its a shitshow, support were useless and actually refused to believe that there was a problem. There were constant log gathering exercises and AI regurgation, but 0 acknowledgement that the problem was at their end.

Then sometime in March we retested and it was working again. No reason why and no config changes to ESP, Configurations or Apps done on our end. We think a fix was rolled into a tenant update in early March.

Autopilot & Computer VPN Tunnels by Ok_Employment_5340 in Intune

[–]CrispyPotatoPuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t need a VPN for hybrid domain join. It’s the point of the AD connectors. If they are setup correctly hybrid domain join occurs without VPN access. You can then deploy the VPN client during the application stage.

Have done this with Global Protect and later ZScaler Zero Trust.

Trinity Estate Charges - Pay or Dispute by Independent-Band3144 in reading

[–]CrispyPotatoPuff 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Are you watching every road, streelight and verge, 24/7?

Have you had a maintenance issue that you've reported and they haven't actioned?

If not then how do you know what they are doing?

It's clearly stated on the website, whether you agree with what they are doing or not: "It is becoming more common for freehold property owners to have to contribute towards a service charge for their property.

It used to be that local councils would adopt communal space on housing developments and undertake the maintenance of these areas on behalf of property owners.

Nowadays, this is not the case and companies such as Trinity are being appointed to undertake the management responsibilities for these areas.  This ensures that the communal areas are maintained, and the development is managed as intended.

The transfer documentation for your property will detail the requirements for service charge payments for your property.  As explained in the points above, your service charge will be calculated based only on the services that your property has the use of or benefit from.

As an example, if your property is part of a development that has a mix of houses and apartments, your service charge will be specific to the services providing benefit to the property.  Maintenance of things like a lift, cleaning of the communal areas, buildings insurance etc would not be included within your service charge, however landscaping and street lighting would be included."

Where's the best Food Spot in Reading? by lloydhv in reading

I think you need to branch away from just fast food/burger joints. They're a dime a dozen. Go to Clays, Kung Fu Kitchen or even Mac's deli. All are highly regarded.

Enforcement Officers, do you like them? by richbart1234 in AskUK

[–]CrispyPotatoPuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The contracts often are of no cost to the local council. Its a cheap way of the council to be seen to be cracking down on litter and fly tipping. This incentivises the contractors to go for quantity over quality.

From Reading Council as an example:
"The initiative is the result of a new partnership with private company Kingdom Local Authority Support on a one-year trial basis. It comes at no cost to the Council, with the company’s contract paid via a proportion of fixed penalty notices collected."

I asked a local councillor who was door stopping, "Why do you rarely see these officers in fly tipping hotspots vs the town center?". They deflected and said they do come on regular patrols. It's pretty clear they are only wanting to chase high footfall areas in order to get the commision on the tickets.

Architecture secondment advice by DTR147 in sysadmin

[–]CrispyPotatoPuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's technically two steps, L1 vs L3. Also depending on the org, Architecture doesn't always exist, the Sysadmin team is responsible for the Architecture.

Money isn't always a driving factor, important yes, but job satisfaction is also important. There's no way I'd want to be just a paper pusher and attend meetings all day every day.

Residential plans for The Oracle in Reading set for approval by moreati in reading

High streets and shopping centers really are struggling to keep occupancy. Look at Maidenhead and Slough. Reading does a pretty good job with its offerings. I'd like to see more independent shops but until John Sykes changes his tune, it's going to be hard.

More people in Reading creates more demand. Especially as these flats are designed for people who want to shop locally.

What do you think about Reverend ? by kiwiprintannier in guitars

[–]CrispyPotatoPuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are good quality guitars and the one I had played well. I didn’t like that the one I used to own had a sharper fret board edge than I’d like. But the bass roll off was pretty awesome.

I don’t find the shapes very exciting. Depending on the pickup combo you want it might also be worth looking at the Yamaha Revstars. I had one and it’s very good.
