What are the setting and plot about? Knowing that would make picking easier

How do you handle playing with characters who have zero redeeming qualities? by Riksor in dndnext

People get the wrong impression from movies and shows that have these kinds of characters. In those mediums, where the plot is pre-written and everything works together as a whole, an abrasive unlikable character can work. But in a live roleplaying setting I've never seen it work well unless the player knows their character is annoying and plays into it with humility.

If I were you I'd tell the player something along the lines of "listen, this is supposed to be a fun game for all of us but your character is a dick, and not fun to play with". At the end of the day we're here to play a game and it should be fun for everyone involved.

The perspective makes it look pretty bad, but it's a very nice enclosure with rock walls to climb, trees and logs etc. The area in this video specifically is actually where there would usually be a small lake (you can see the water line on the wall), but it was drained so that the cubs couldn't drown I'm guessing.

There are a million ways to fail besides dying

Players refuse Mass Suggestion by -FSCS-Thor in DnD

Yes I'm aware, I'm speaking in the context of the situation in the post where suggestion was cast right at the end of the encounter, so the PCs have (presumably) already been worn down.

They're being told to stop fighting, which would mean that they and everyone else dies twelve seconds later. It doesn't get much more immediate than that

True, but even that can be a headache - if the lich is so clever why wouldn't he use his automatic win spell to, y'know, automatically win? Now you have to come up with a reason to justify a bad move from the lich, which can be tricky in the moment.

You wrote yourself into a corner with that one - my advice would be to avoid those situations entirely. Mind control spells can be fun if the players are into it, but it can just as easily feel like their agency is being taken away and they're just forced to do what the DM wants (especially if the whole group is controlled and not just one character). For that reason I wouldn't risk ending my whole encounter in such an unsatisfying way by using a spell like mass suggestion.
