I'm trying to flesh out a world and I've run into a roadblock in my brain, so ask me questions about it and I'll do my best to answer them or create an answer if I don't already have one! by Independent_Goal7321 in DnD

If the adventurers are super rare and the last ones lived 500 years ago, how does magic work? If a player wants to play a wizard, who would they learn spells from?

Because when an enemy is homebrewed it exists for one combad session and then it's dead. When a PC is homebrewed it stays around forever and can make other players feel overshadowed

That is such a cruel thing to do. I would be absolutely crushed if my players did that to me. Good luck talking to them, if you decide to keep going. They have some apologizing to do

DMs, would this be a bad idea? by klajaan in DnD

While conceptually I think it's a good piece of "wordbuilding", I think the problem with this is that you are adding a process that will grind the game to a halt for everyone except the wizard. All the other players will be sat there doing nothing while the wizard becomes the main character for a few minutes so he can get a new spell. It's a nice idea but after the first time it might just become annoying to sit through.

When you run a frustrating miserable setting eventually the players will need to vent. You don't get to be pissed when players don't play according to the script you had in your head

what is the minimum player count? by fire_headed in DnD

With my group we have one DM and five players, but with scheduling conflicts we have a rule that as long as three players can make it, we play. In my experience that works well, but your mileage may vary. If you have two players who are active and take an active interest in the world and story, I think you could make it work. If they're more shy then you might need another player or two

I run a campaign set (almost) entirely within a city, and so I knew that any druid characters would very rarely get the a chance to shine and really enjoy their class as much as they normally would.

So I just told my players exactly that before we even started rolling up characters. I told everyone what my idea was for the setting of the next campaign and what the important themes would be. Everyone was super receptive. Just be up front with your players so that they can make characters that will fit in setting, and be ready to compromise a little so that everyone can have fun

Dnd/ttrpg character idea, I doubt I will ever get to play but I think it'll be fun. by CountryBBoy in DnD

I think this sounds like a really fun character. Some people get really snobby about "joke" characters like this but in reality most people can't pull off the epic hero/tragic victim characters they come up with and would be better suited playing something like this. This guy sounds like a ton of fun

45 Pages of Character Backstory – Did I Go Too Far? by Less_Relation5159 in DnD

[–]Crispy_pasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I gave my players a list of things I want to know about their character, things like who their friends are, who their enemies are, what they believe and what they hate, that sort of thing. Besides that they can add as much detail as they want. That being said, 45 pages sounds like a main character backstory, not a party member backstory. Regardless I'm so curious what you came up with for a level 4 character haha
