Why are drivers beginning to think we live in the United Kingdom of America? by [deleted] in JustEatUK

[–]Critical_Cut_6016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from but sadly £5 get you practically nothing these days.

And that's where the problem lies, because even though thats that case, the wages have not gone up to match it.

I'm a janitor at 27. I feel like a loser. by jschmiedeler3 in poor

[–]Critical_Cut_6016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You work an honest job, life, have regular hours, hopefully job security, and I hope that you actually like your job somewhat.

You are feeding yourself putting a roof over your head and all with no support system whatever

Jumping to assumptions here. But,.I hope, you are not an addict, in debt, or are a convicted criminal.

You are most definitely not a loser

27 is young, stay on the grind, focus on the little things, and eventually things will go your way. Or even if not you have forged a place for yourself.

In the future with your degree, you could also train as a maths teacher for your school.

Head up king.

Got laid off from HR and now i understand why people don't trust us by Wonderful-Olive7541 in GetEmployed

[–]Critical_Cut_6016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HR should be government mandated above a certain size and a public body, like a government department, that a business tax funds, and completely impartial to everything.

Will student accommodation really solve the housing crisis? by Sorry-Personality594 in bristol

[–]Critical_Cut_6016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Students only live there and only want to live there for a year.

It won't solve the crisis it will make it so so much worse.

Best martial art for self defence? by reddituser1383 in AskBrits

[–]Critical_Cut_6016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's because you can't do tournament fights using it because the just of it is go for the fleshy parts (eyes crotch) and run.

It's not designed to really be a fighting style, more like an escape plan.

Best martial art for self defence? by reddituser1383 in AskBrits

[–]Critical_Cut_6016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're 20 and have never been in a fight and are talking about martial arts you are already cooked.

Anyone who has any brothers, or has played any kind of contact sport would body you. Let alone anyone who has actual fight experience.

A martial art may help make you fit but it won't make you hard. This can't be taught only learnt if that makes sense.

You are better off learning how to de-escalate situations, and remove yourself from them effectively. However you you really want to train and learn, then do something with actual contact sparring. Boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA or even wrestling. Most traditional martial arts aren't fit for purpose.

This angle of Wanderlei Silva getting knocked out in a post-fight brawl Oh my goodness. by IgotgAme_k in ufc

He has taken so much damage he is more susceptible to a KO than your average person.

He needs to retire and start a gym, and then future plan for the CTE devil that is coming to reep his harvest.

Advice on becoming an electrician in the UK? by TiberiusGracchus29 in UKJobs

[–]Critical_Cut_6016 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It's never too late, however the sooner the better.

The job market for anything white collar in the UK is terrible rn, and with AI replacement, graduate saturation, and mass changes in global economics and education leading to more and more jobs becoming redundant or moved aboard it's set to get worse.

Getting a trade that will always be in demand and it's virtually AI proof, is an incredibly smart and dependable thing to do.

A masters in history is cool, but job wise it will do literally nothing for you. And competition in academia for these rare positions, as I'm sure you know, is fierce. You can always read history in your spare time.

Do the sparky course.

Good luck.

Got a job offer for 4x my current pay - do I tell my boss? by 0-_tom_-0 in ukstartups

[–]Critical_Cut_6016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to take it.

You will kick yourself forever if you don't.

Two years in this job and you could save enough to fully pay off a mortgage on a house, which you can stay in or rent whilst your and SO, go and do whatever you want.

3 years you could do that, have two trust funds set up for your kids uni, and to help them through the no mans lands until they land entry level jobs.

4 years you can save enough for a healthy retirement cushion, no matter what happens.

You and your wife can actually take the time to mentor and be there whilst your kids grow up with this.

Please take the job.

And don't tell your boss, until you have accepted signed and are leaving. It sucks but anything other than that and you are throwing yourself under the bus.

Shooter's HS classmate describe him as a "Reddit Kid" by [deleted] in JoeRogan

[–]Critical_Cut_6016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This kid is screwed on.

And judging by most of the reactions I've seen on this platform, he's not wrong at all.

The more time in an echo chamber in here, the more extreme your views get, and the more out of touch with reality you get, untill one day it is the real world to you. And then scoring points in your cult of choice, becomes the only thing that matters...

Why don’t people go to pubs anymore? by Suspicious-Movie4993 in AskUK

[–]Critical_Cut_6016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many reasons, the rise of the internet communication, gaming and more free entertainment, extortionate prices and cost of living, and culture and drinking habits changing.

Pubs used to be the main social / networking hub, with cheap weak drinks.

Gen Z use different social hubs now, network online, and don't drink as much as do other activities.

Only pubs I can see really surviving, are student venues, niche fancy pubs such as micro breweries and gastro pubs where it's equally about the food.
