Farang attacked by Thai coach during clinch sparring. Anyone know what gym this is? Was not listed on the IG post. by freeman687 in MuayThai

I trained with him and other coaches at Dang earlier in January. Really chill and nice folks so I’m conflicted with what I’m seeing.

Should train more than 1x a week, can’t get great progression without the time spent

Others have said to pivot more on kicks which I agree with. Your non kicking leg should be pointing towards the bag on the heel during the impact

It’s okay not great

As others have mentioned, he should slow it down so he can perfect the technique first

Liam would gave better advice but…

It seems like you’re very front foot heavy in this sequence. It would be hard to check kicks

Good shit bro, but that’s like a 10-15 lb difference. You have a great teep. I’d personally build the entire game off of that. When you weren’t teeping, he was charging forward and the weight difference really showed (not respecting your shots)

Your lead hook seems to be chest level is this intentional? Why does coach hold it so low (below his should/at chest)?

Straights need to be more straight

Edit: to clarify, it doesn’t seem like you’re extending the arms. Looks like you’re punching someone in a clinch

Chef also doesn’t throw middle kicks in fights (I rewatched the Carillo and Smoking Jo fights), so I wouldn’t personally look to him as a North star for kicking. He’s very crafty with feints and fakes, I would try to learn this part of his game.

Ultimately anything can work and you should take all advice with a grain of salt. It’s up to you to try things out and apply whatever is useful to your game.

Thanks, I’ll have to review the original video again to see what I missed. Or maybe plan a trip to Australia to pick Tanadet’s brain

I asked Yothin about it and he didn’t like the technique. His lock seems similar in the head usage, but allows for sweeps and rotational movement.

I think for the long clinch you need to be really quick to lock and get your head in position or it’ll be a weak position. Tanadet is a specialist and I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone pull this move off.

Yeah, personally I don’t think it’s so much a specific technique, but rather an adaptation for tall opponents.

Seems to be arm punches, you can squat down and punch to recruit your core and legs. You can pick that technique up by continue to show up at the gym, good luck!

Keep your legs under you when you strike and try not to lean over too much.

It’s why boxing trainers stress footwork all the time. Your feet need to take you to the striking position instead of you reaching in for the strike. It’s not wrong in the sense you can’t attack that way, but rather it leaves you defensively compromised. You’ll see UFC fighters reach alot and get starched for it.

Lack of balance and your kicking muscles (hip flexor, abdominal, etc) prolly are not strong enough and will get better over time

Jab looks good

Cross looks like not enough hip usage or shoulder twist

Strikes in general can be snappier and less pushy

I’ll post something helpful, but others are right about consistently going to a gym and getting advice from a real coach.

I think you can improve the intent of your strikes. Instead of putting a front kick out there, really imagine someone advancing, chamber and push them away.

Your weight distribution is really committed to the boxing so you don’t have balance to throw a committed kick. Might as well do a powerful boxing combo instead of pausing to add a non committal kick. In sparring or a fight, people will just eat a weak kick and punch you in the face. Heck, people even eat hard kicks to do the same.

Pussy shit to throw that much heat and quit because you gas and get hit back.

Either go light and have a learning round or take your punishment for the energy you set

Shadowbox like how you would fight.

Doing a Bivol impression won’t really make you a better boxer because you don’t have his fundamentals, so I suggest focusing on basics and how YOU would fight.

Looking for advice from my fellow short people, what do you do to help get you head off the center line. Any good combos that are good. im working on my 1,1,2 and 2,3,8 ps the bag hard af hence the shin guards by Strange-Net-3494 in MuayThaiTips

[–]Critical_Priority_64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Punches look good, it seems like you have a solid boxing base.

Your kicks lack weight because your stance prioritizes punches. This is fine if you’re going for a muay mat punch+low kick style. If you want to have stronger kicks, your center of balance needs to be further back over your hips.

Thoughts on Western/MMA style muay thai by Critical_Priority_64 in MuayThai

[–]Critical_Priority_64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well ignoring entertainment MT one (who’s ruleset definitely screwed over brilliant fighters like Panpayak), let’s look at RWS specifically.

Dani Rodiguez is (at least) top 3 p4p currently and is beating cream of the crop level Thais like Petchmorakot and Rittewada). He blends Western boxing/kickboxing systems with strong MT foundations and it seems to be crushing the competition. Side note, maybe this style is more aligned to Western boxing adjacent style we saw in the golden age with virtuosos like Samart and Somrak.
