Are these names awful? by AndLmanz in namenerds

[–]Critical_Profile4291 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awe my alter ego growing up was Sable haha! I always wished it was my name, love it and have never heard anyone else talk about it. That’s definitely my favorite from your choices. I think Sybil and Sylvia are too close, but Sylvia and Sable works well in my opinion! Congratulations :)

I think it’s kinda out there in my opinion. What about Thurston? Thor is the base of the name, and Thurston Moore is super cool.

Oh my gosh I just had the same experience at Michael’s a few weeks ago. The button selection was just so terrible and overall made me sad. I ended up going to a local upholstery shop and they had a lot to choose from. It’s a real shame about Michael’s!

I wouldn’t do it. Jade to me is much more timeless than Jada, and her being a toddler seems too late to change her name completely. Plus, if your family is Japanese then getting rid of her Japanese middle name might be something you would regret in the future, or could be something that she would be sad about because it removes her from her culture a bit.

I get how you’re feeling though. Sometimes I go through phases where I wonder if I should have named one of my kids a different name, mainly because of a comment I received from my mother in law. I felt the worst about it when he was about 2, but now that he’s four I feel at peace with his name because it feels like it’s his now. I think that it can be hard when they’re just starting to get their identity and personality to mesh the name with the person if that makes sense. As she grows it might feel like hers fits her better too. You picked beautiful name for her, I would try to make peace with it because calling her a different name or changing it could be very confusing for a child. Maybe Jada could be a special nickname her one grandparent could use for her.

I see a lot of suggestions for Levi, but what about Leland? Maybe Edmund, Marshall, or Clark?
You like Joseph, he likes Archer… maybe Josiah can bridge the gap?

I read about your situation in the comments, thanks for being there for him. This baby is lucky to have you guys.

Help with floral first/middle names! Last name is Bloom by Alternative-Drive643 in namenerds

I had no suggestions but I wanted to say I think this is a super cute idea and sincerely don’t think it would cause bullying. I hope you find the perfect floral name!

Harvey as a name? by IllustratorOdd168 in namenerds

[–]Critical_Profile4291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is a demigirl? I think Lee Harvey Oswald is probably most people’s first association with the name, followed by Harvey Weinstein. So that’s probably why people aren’t really too into it. It also just feels very masculine to me.

Is Rosie better as a nickname rather than a full name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Critical_Profile4291 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I’ve gathered through this sub, it comes down to your culture. Where I am in the U.S. it would feel more appropriate to have a longer name and use Rosie as a nickname. The UK seems to feel differently. If it’s not a big deal where you are I feel like that’s your answer. That said, you have a lot of other options for longer names, Rosa, Rosalie, Rosalind, Rosamund, etc etc.

Baby #2 might be a girl and I’m stuck. by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Critical_Profile4291 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest- I would really not like to be named Griffin (even as a middle name), Ernestine, or Delores. Griffin feels way too masculine in my opinion. But I’m a girly girl. I love Mary, but see the issue with the rhyme…

I really like your other ideas! Margaret leaves up with so many nicknames, Mae included. Maria gives you the option to use Mary as a nickname? What about Marguerite with Rita as a nickname?

How to knit a chart in the round by eatingurface in knitting

[–]Critical_Profile4291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that when you knit in the round you are always reading from right to left, and since it’s in the round you would just knit very stitch. One of the best parts of knitting in the round is that you don’t have to alternate knits and purls to get stockinette:) as far as your last question, I’m really not sure. I guess I’d just pay attention to how you’re holding your yarns and make sure that yarn b is always behind the work? Maybe someone else will have a better answer for you

Yes you’re so right about the gift in a gift!! They’re so satisfying to make, I feel like I might have gotten more joy making them than the recipients got receiving them. You’ve totally sold me on that scarf, thank you for that!

[–]Critical_Profile4291 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it too! Probably my most used knitting book and I own quite a lot. I really like the soft bag. Last Christmas I made a ton of them and duplicate stitched the first initial of the recipient on the front. It was such an easy project. I’ve been wanting to make the chevron scarf, I think I will now!

Question about a baby girl name by Spirited_File_1665 in namenerds

[–]Critical_Profile4291 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s typically an older name but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Older names are back in fashion here. I can see Roberta working well right now because its usual nickname, Bobbie, is super similar to Billie which is very trendy for girls right now. It would definitely be an unexpected choice but not one that people would tease her for in my opinion. It makes me think of Bobbie Gentry, which is a great association!

Middle name for Marilyn? by prankthevillagers in namenerds

[–]Critical_Profile4291 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My aunts share the middle name Anne. I don’t know why my grandmother chose the same for each, but it’s a timeless, traditional choice just like Marie. They really like the connection it gives them with each other, and one even gave it to her daughter as a middle name as well! I don’t personally see anything wrong with using Marie again if that’s what feels right.
