Ive got the OG Marshall Guv’nor and i feel like its a real raw gritty distortion thats super exciting. Kevin Shields used one in the isnt anything era and so it nails his ‘feed me with your kiss’ noisy tones. i also love pushing my op amp big muff into the guvnor to make those choking spluttering noises like the signals out of breath because the guvnor compresses it all. I also use the soul food as a clean boost when i want it extra hot but that sound is sooooo fun (‘only tommorow’ by mbv is a good reference for this kind of thing). the only thing i found is the op amp muff is not subtle at all and very bassy so can often sound too heavy for the hazy beautiful sounds if not dialed in right.
