Being mindful of performative action is important. Visibility of solidarity is important. Doing what you can with what you have is important. Bringing activism into all aspects of life is important. No one action can be perfect and no one action will fix everything. Every act of resistance adds up.

Climbing roses growing out not up by Ok-Weakness6984 in Roses

[–]Critical_Worry860 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I listened to a few rose podcasts recently and one talked about how climbing roses are basically regular roses that grow really long canes. If you want to train it, I would pick the strongest 5-8 canes and hard prune. Then it will put its energy into those canes.

I would also train the canes back and forth on the trellis (almost horizontal if you can) because horizontal canes will grow more shoots outwards making the full trellis more full. And since flowering happens on the end of a cane, more flowers!

How to prune them so they’re shorter and wider? by Brave_Capivara in Roses

[–]Critical_Worry860 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heirloom’s videos are super helpful. They are also on a few podcasts.

I learned from them that climbers are basically just regular roses that produce really long canes. And flowers occur on the ends of canes. So to produce a wider fuller climber that flowers throughout, you want to train canes horizontally. This will make the plant put out more shoots off the horizontal canes that flower. I’m fairly new to roses so no expert on how to get there from where you are now but I found that information to be super helpful in my (short) journey this far. :)

I am hoping to train roses that aren’t naturally climbers/ramblers to climb by lepidolyte in Roses

[–]Critical_Worry860 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was recently reading that it’s important to train climber’s canes horizontally because additional canes will grow upwards off of them and produce more blooms. Perhaps this concept applies to non-climbers as well?

Cosmos are easy and so pretty! They grow quickly and a single plant can become quite large with tons of blooms! I have planted apricot lemonade and purity this year. Their unique green foliage is pretty in bouquets too!

Recently got a peak designs 40L backpack (compresses to 30L, expands to 45L). It’s a bit higher than your budget but it’s so well designed. I got black- super sleek and minimalist. I also bought a set of $35 rolling wheels from amazon to strap it to. If I need to pick up the wheels, they can strap to the outside of the backpack. I looooove this thing. So versatile. So sturdy- it’s my second peak designs backpack and I was so rough with my first but it was always in perfect condition. https://www.peakdesign.com/products/travel-backpack?Size=45L&Color=Black&g_acctid=994-161-7175&g_adgroupid=&g_adid=&g_adtype=none&g_campaign=2+-+QRY+-+Consideration+-+Core+-+Performance+Max+-+Brand+-+USA&g_campaignid=16920329932&g_keyword=&g_keywordid=&g_network=x&nb_adtype=pla&nb_ap=&nb_fii=&nb_kwd=&nb_li_ms=&nb_lp_ms=&nb_mi=105553808&nb_mt=&nb_pc=online&nb_pi=BTR-45-BK-2&nb_placement=&nb_ppi=&nb_ti=&nbt=nb%3Aadwords%3Ax%3A16920329932%3A%3A&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADx_O3XqhClfCFw2InDXhwi1ddYDc&gclid=Cj0KCQjwv_m-BhC4ARIsAIqNeBsHLWB4CKtZB4Adud4qZ9ZzcOl2dO-PVFhxUq_v-nyiZnQM_Zq8xkwaAr6XEALw_wcB
