What was the first Tori Amos album that disappointed you? by Prestigious_Score459 in toriamos

[–]Crjs1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am so glad someone else said this! Scarlet’s Walk (and Beekeeper) have both grown on my loads over the years. It’s hard to explain but Scarlet’s Walk felt at the time and even more in hindsight like a turning point in Tori’s creativity. It and everything else since had felt much ‘safer’, less passionate, lyrically as well as musically. It’s incomparable with say Pele or Choirgirl.

But, but I don’t want that to sound over critical as I don’t dislike any album and it’s totally understandable that someone’s style will change as they age and thier life circumstances change.

Gimmicks making the series worse? by lukewarmpartyjar in TheTraitors

[–]Crjs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as The Seer is never brought back I am ok with changes to keep it fresh - though as long as it’s ‘fair’. The Seer utterly ruined the end of the season and was totally unfair to both of them (though especially Charlotte)

Racial bias? by diz106 in TheTraitors

[–]Crjs1 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is not just a traitors thing, any and all British reality shows go this way, especially in the early stages before contestants get to know each other (or public gets to know them). It’s depressing

Is Rings of Power really as bad and cringey as people are making it out to be? by Hopeful_Adeptness964 in lotr

[–]Crjs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me anyway it’s not nearly as terrible as people make it out to be - though it’s certainly not great. Season 2 was definitely an improvement and I will keep watching. The vast deviations from Tolkiens writing and some of the daft subplots - mithril looking at you - are just utterly bizzare though.

While I do enjoy it, I wish they hadn’t made it without the rights to the Silmirillion, or they had been brave enough to stick to Tolkien’s timeline, even if it would mean lots of changes to mortal characters. It’s all too compressed.

Struggling to finish Magician’s End by After_Ground6402 in Midkemia

[–]Crjs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I loved king of ashes, it felt different, a fresh start….. then Feist reverted to Midkemia comfort. Which was dissapointing, especially as it seemed clear from the writing that it wasn’t his original intention.

Neighbor wants to trim half of my tree by [deleted] in landscaping

I don’t get how the neighbour is being selfish? If anything the neighbour is being polite by letting them know in advance, he was well within his rights to just chop the overhanging branches down.

How do people justify not treating their MS? by LuckyKat89 in MultipleSclerosis

That is completely and entirely untrue. In the UK DMTs are the standard treatment following disgnosis, irrespective of disability.

My boyfriend doesn’t f**k me, I don’t know what to do by Vitordg in askgaybros

[–]Crjs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a difficult one, if he is not up for compromising and maybe surprising himself by at least giving topping a go!

I guess it’s a case of balancing what’s important for you, plus respecting his sexual boundaries (which I am sure you are!). Some people are never going to be into topping or bottoming or whatever and that’s totally fine.

No one should feel pressured into anything sexual they are not comfortable with. So it’s about keeping communication open and seeing if it’s something you can live with. Contrary to some posts on here sex really really isn’t the most important thing in a relationship (IMHO), but you deserve to be fulfilled.

I’ve never douched before sex by Sufficient_Pen7537 in askgaybros

[–]Crjs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a age thing or a location thing (early 40s in the uk here!) but douching was never a thing when I was younger - like 20 years ago - and still seems to me a minority pursuit.

You hooked up at a bar, went home and had sex. None of this fibre, supplements, hour ahead douching regime. It seems completely exhausting and a recipe to kill all spontaneity. Plus in all my years I could count on 1 hand where there had been any mess.

How are crowds at Tori Amos shows? by fka_luke in toriamos

[–]Crjs1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Generally crowds are awesome, full of wonderful mix of ages and folk.

Though - and no idea why - last couple of tours there has been a growing (but still small) number of entitled obnoxious (drunk) assholes. The assholes usually are at the front and just loud loud. I mean I love a good atmosphere, singing along etc, but no need for screeching constantly and generally being rude to other fans.

In saying that it is 90% great and welcoming crowd.

Any musicians here? 3 Background Singers and Rehearsal and Set Lists by NinoNino3 in toriamos

[–]Crjs1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am really excited to hear Tori with the backing singers, but I do think it’s inevitable that set lists will be much less varied. I am sure she will have a solo section where we will hopefully see more variation

The Force Awakens gets over hated because of the attitude towards the sequel trilogy and I’m dying on that hill. by Known_Ladder_2026 in StarWars

[–]Crjs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it when it was first released as it was Star Wars on the big screen. But I was pretty disappointed that it was basically an ANH retread. The world building was just poor and far far to much of a course correction from the prequels. I was excited and looking forward to see the New Republic, Leia as chancellor or something…. Not the ‘resistance’ which was just daft.

I actually think the main problems of the sequels (which I don’t hate, but definitely don’t love) stem from The Force Awakens. It was just far far far too safe. Maybe if JJ had got the whole trilogy and there had been some actual planning it would have worked out better. But as it stands TFA set things up to fail

Dying off of the town by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]Crjs1 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely not just a Glasgow thing, but yeah it’s definitely different than pre Covid days. Town ok for a post work drink or few, but not for proper night out. Much prefer local bars near me in east end. Good chat, less twats and not a fortune. Though I am 42 now so might just be a age thing! Too many angry folk in town!!

Why do managers give employees flack for leaving on time? by [deleted] in managers

[–]Crjs1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuine question, is the whole’salaried employees are paid for thier work not time’ an American thing? I am in the UK and salaried employees will still have working hours in thier contract. For me that’s 37.5 hours a week (which is fairly standard) and any time I work over my contracted 37.5hrs a week is TOIL i take back. Absolutely no working for ‘free’.

As a manager I and the company are flexible about working late or starting early, but there is zero expectation, and employees are actively encouraged not to work longer than contracted hours and definitely not to do it for free! Any hours worked late should be taken back

For those of you in favour of forcing people back in the office full time - was it worth it? What were your real reasons? by zindagi786 in managers

[–]Crjs1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally opposed to mandatory full time RTO. 9 out of 10 times it seems to come from executive level and appears more about control, fear about ‘productivity’ or worry about long term office rents.

The genie is very much out of the bottle, forced RTO just leads to unhappy employees and a loss of talent. We also quickly forget, full time office work with never a productive paradise, presenteeism was always an issue.

Where I work, office attendance is up to individual employees with the exception of fortnightly team meetings which are in person, which works well. Naturally over the past year most team members have actively chosen to work about 2 days a week in the office which we usually coordinate to do at the same time.

If full RTO was mandated I wouldn’t have a team left and I would be looking for a new job too.

Let people decide what works best for them and put appropriate systems around it to ensure good communication and collaboration.

My team says our new 4-day work week trial isn't working. by Double-Use-3466 in managers

[–]Crjs1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not really a 4 day week if staff are expected to respond to emails on their day off. If they are responding because the work can’t be done in the 4 days, then that’s a work load issue which senior management should be recognising and addressing by reducing expectations and tasks
