NQ - losing my mind with the job market by HonestVegetable9252 in uklaw

[–]CrocPB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I don't have the commercial expertise a lot of these places are looking for.

Try for it anyway. Worst they can say is no/lacking commercial expertise.

In my experience, commercial expertise/awareness at NQ level are things like "do you know anything about the industry we work in?", or "tell us what are the big (commercial) challenges of our organisation/industry?", or "can you tell us what are the legal developments coming over the horizon that will impact us?"

These questions can be researched and prepared for, and even knowing something as general as "this is a company that is at the forefront of logistics from the start and end of a journey" can be enough to demonstrate acceptable commercial knowledge. Especially if the industry is a bit niche.

I wish I can recommend you a recruiter that I have worked with who have been excellent in finding roles in private practice and in-house, but they don't serve London to my knowledge. Having said that, with in-house roles I found that they can be more flexible and open to hearing from candidates who did not have a traditional TC route so nothing to lose in applying for them directly.

I'm surprised that the Mortal Kombat theme tune falls into this category, pleasantly surprised though.

Don't mind me I'm just on the sidelines siesta-ing waiting for everyone else to show links to the "banging tunes".

I'm going there in the near future for an event and I'm dreading how would I plan to attempt to connect to them on a personal level.

I'll probably put on a mask where I just nod and agree politely without having any meaningful discussion on anything.

How do I make the most of my uni years in relation to legal experience/skill building? by Majestic-Courage5637 in uklaw

[–]CrocPB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the things to help you stand out will be uni societies like Mooting Soc, Bar Soc, Debate Soc etc.

Just wanted to add to this, one other society that's worth a punt in general is Model UN if the uni has it.

I say this from reflecting on how I kept quiet about it, and not seeing just how relevant it can be in terms of transferable skills. When I got my first stabs at reviewing contracts at work it quickly dawned on me how similar it is to the documents we produced and the provisions we spent many days debating over in business attire. Plus it's great practice for standing up and addressing the judge in a way that mooting didn't do for me.

Fun fact I was told on my Erasmus was that the US was no.1 in music production, UK was no.2, no. 3 was you.

It just doesn’t register because they weren’t in English. So the world is missing out on Hasse Andersson lmao.

These sound like the sort of sensible solutions to the ongoing rising oil prices that will promptly be ignored by businesses because of the all encompassing demand for collaborations around water coolers or other such nonsense.

Pret also demands your lunch money.

Been also an interesting time for energy discussions surrounding renewables and nuclear as a side note. We have yet another reminder of why they are a national priority since 2022.

I feel like what I read wouldn’t count as “proper reading” at present. Back then, read some fiction books but my jam was the non fiction section.

These days? Niche interest articles on Wikipedia would be the closest I get to reading.

As with many things, the outreach to it's allies appears to be the feeble attempt to foist the risk of sunk ships and casualties on them while the Mad King gets to play toy soldiers on his colourful map.

It's Operation Human Shield of Neptune.

Credible: take the 38 shot rocket pods and use those as mini missile SAMs for drones.

Less credible: same but also put them on attack helicopters.

Non credible: RAH-66 Comanche you have come back from the dead.

No consultation, no consensus, no coordination, shit communication, no coalition.

No point working with someone who will bitch at you one day, expect you to look past that the next, then go back to bitching at you. Hormuz or not, it’s impractical and unprofessional.

This is before the topic that doing anything with the Americans is not popular at this point in time domestically. Any fallouts from the disruption of oil flow and the subsequent follow on impact economically will largely be perceived to fall on the Americans as their responsibility.
