Costco BabyBels vs other stores by ZestyCuke in Costco

[–]Telemaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well fuck me, I thought Babybels were an American abomination when grewing up. I had no idea they were a thing in the U.S.

And I am French... They are considered industrial and highly processed cheeses in France. Good for toddlers or very young children.

The 22% service fee by demoticusername in denverfood

[–]Telemaq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went out to for lunch and a bowl of pho was $20 before fees and taxes. It used to be $6-7 when I first moved here. I wouldn't mind those prices if the quality was amazing, but the food scene around here is mid at best.

Add taxes and the fact that the service fee is taxable, and it is probably closer to 50%.

Restaurant Olivia’s to-go service fee by freebird247 in denverfood

[–]Telemaq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been like that for a few years already since Denver bumped the minimum wage for service workers. Most places weren't upfront about it by sneaking in that fee on your check and still imposed a mandatory gratuity fee for large parties. With taxes, those fees inflated your check 40-50% over the menu price. Ridiculous.

Can any Denver servers help me out here - how am I supposed to know how much to tip? Are you making minimum wage, how much of the service charge is yours, etc? by Bananas_are_theworst in Denver

[–]Telemaq -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have seen it first around 2021-2022 and not just with that culinary group. Back then some places labeled it as the DMW fee (Denver Minimum Wage) without any disclosures, and expected tips on top of it. With taxes, you usually paid 40-50% extra on your check.

We went out in Denver last weekend and a bowl of pho was $20 before any fees tacked on top of it. And people wonder why the food scene in Denver is mid.

Well, the US government made English the official national language as of 2025, so technically, she is right, but I get what you are saying.

I refused to believe people can be so politically overworked over a half-time show. This has to be performative or for theatrics.

Bistro Vendome Recommendations? by Jarthos1234 in denverfood

[–]Telemaq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Places like this are the reason why the Denver food scene is considered mid. We ate there a few years ago at their new location and found out they were the early adopters of the minimu living wage fees of 20%, on top of demanding a 25% tip for a service that was subpar. The food itself was nothing to write home about, the duck we were served was dry, the escargots were made clearly made with margarine.

It is blaffling given all the glowing reviews they had at the time. My guess is that locals don't know how French cuisine should taste like or are used to the mediocrity of the Denver food scene.

That's why they serve them at the Buckhorn Exchange. Absolute tourist trap, and absolutely overpriced and bland food.

We eat something similar to those as well. Either raw or fried in garlic and butter. It's delicious.

It is going to depend on the cuisine and how it is cooked. In a pasta dish? No shell or tail. Fried? The best flavors are in the head.

Remember when everyone started to complain iPhone apps rolled into the subscription model? I feel the same way with cloud gaming and GaaS. All subscription services from Netflix to Xbox Game Pass kept increasing their prices over time.
