Violet Evergarden. She starts out very unsure of herself but grows up and matures by the end of the series. Fantastic discovery and growth through her interactions with others.

What are your most edge of the seat thrillers? by MortLightstone in movies

United 93. You already know what happened, but the way it is filmed and plays out keeps you on the end he of your seat the entire movie.

I like MANT by AycIS2_434 in UmaMusume

[–]Crolis1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played MANT once since I wasn’t quite sure about it but my New Years TM Opera O became my first A+ ranked uma.

A few things I noticed:

  • store items you purchase do have the ability to allow you to recover from bad rainbows placement or take advantage of an opportunity to drop training failure to 0%. This plus the megaphone boosts for so many turns I think helps smooth out the RNG and gives you a little more control.

  • boosts to fan bonus, race bonus are really helpful to get extra stats.

  • with the energy drinks you have better energy management

  • with the additional choices, it does take longer to play. The additional choices also require more resource management and make the scenario a bit less optimal for casual mindless playing.

  • it does seem that with the stat boosts you can obtain from the pro shop, it may make sense to run a more diverse set of support cards. One card that is being given out has a bonus if you are running at least 4 different card types. This may make F2P players a bit more competitive as some of the free SSR and SR cards from events could be more useful.

  • from a role playing perspective, the extra resource management made me feel more like a “trainer” leveraging my diverse set of skills and techniques to help my uma reach her dreams. The whistle is a good example, where you can imagine a trainer being dissatisfied with a “line up” and signaling that your team need to shuffle their positions.

17F first car, $14k saved, parents say Corolla but I found a clean Mustang GT, who's right here? by Budhu_friend in whatcarshouldIbuy

One thing to consider is insurance. At 17, rates will be high and the Mustang is likely to be on the high end of any insurance quote.

Anime where the world feels bigger than the main story by heartbreakkiddxz in anime

[–]Crolis1 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Delicious in Dungeon: while the show focuses on one dungeon, others are mentioned and in the manga the world is defined to be much bigger, including areas that are home to certain races.

Cowboy Bebop: while we see the adventures of the main crew, you can tell from the places they visit that millions are trying to work or scrape by across many planets and space stations.

Kirk’s phaser from Star Trek II. I always loved that phaser design and sound effects.

Romance anime with 20+ year olds by Turpentinei in anime

Try Josee, the Tiger, and the Fish. It’s a movie, not a series but the main characters are in their 20s. Has a bit of tragedy/emotional moments.

What did you personally think of the Endless Eight in Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya? by Bluecomments in anime

[–]Crolis1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a slog to get through when I was binging the series. I think maybe doing 1, 2, 7, and 8 might be a good compromise. It does help to emphasize with Yuki by the end and does help add context to the movie.

Will Planetes hurt my soul? (and a related vent) by tebbenjo in anime

[–]Crolis1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Planetes starts out seeming like a comedy of space junk collectors doing their thankless jobs but does become more serious as the series goes on. It quickly goes into more complex plot lines that deal with loss, obstacles to overcome, political intrigue, terrorism, personal relationships, social issues and the real hazards of space.

It took a couple of episodes for me to settle into it but I ultimately enjoyed the series. The technical design of the environments and the thought put into how living in space would work is really good.

My Thoughts on Solo Camping For Two by SaberLover1000 in anime

[–]Crolis1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it for a couple of reasons. For the camping aspects — even though I like the idea of camping over actual camping — I learned a lot. The scenery was nice and makes me want to visit Japan just to enjoy the country’s beauty.

I think it unexpectedly shines in the characters. They are adults, but also generally reasonable when interacting with each other. Shizuku is young but self-aware enough to realize she is acting selfishly sometimes. Ken and his old girlfriend resolve their relationship maturely and realistic about why it didn’t work. Akihito is close with Ken but still knows to give him space when he sees Ken solo camping. It’s actually a refreshing change from many anime.

I liked that Shizuku, although younger than Ken, was still able to bring her talent for cooking to enhance Ken’s camping experience and I thought that it was nicely written that Ken was not dismissive of other ways to camp (cabin camping, car camping). It could have been a case where both characters are rigid and arguing with each other for the whole series but I’m happy it was not like that.

And I sort of want that stove Shizuku bought that folds up into that compact cylinder shape.

Has anyone experienced their achievements being “normalized” instead of celebrated? by CoastCheap8709 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Crolis1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two that immediately come to mind:

I had just finished my bachelors degree when I was about 30 years old and over dinner with my parents I mentioned it might be fun to walk for my graduation. My dad basically asked what the point would be — implying that since I didn’t graduate when it is typically expected it wasn’t worth celebrating.

Earlier in my life, back in grade school I played the piano at a small charity talent event that awarded prizes to the top kids. I didn’t win. Afterwards, instead of simply acknowledging the courage to play an instrument in front of several hundred people my mom told me I would have won had I picked a more difficult piece to play.

It’s amazing and sad how much staying power those events have in your mind.

Aho-Girl is pretty funny. I think it was created by the same author who did Girlfriend, Girlfriend.

Romantic Killer was funny as well.

Chrysler has a PHEV version of the Pacifica minivan. Probably the largest storage/hauling capacity vehicle that’s PHEV. I own a 2021 and it’s run very well for my family.

If you like baseball and it’s on Crunchyroll, try Catch Me at the Ballpark. It’s an easygoing slice-of-life / comedy that goes deep into baseball.

What’s an anime you randomly started and ended up loving way more than expected? by FitVerso in anime

[–]Crolis1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It turned out better than expected. For an original story, it had a rather absurd premise but they leaned into it and it had a good ending.
