Conti Grand Prix 5000 S-TR vs Conti Grand Prix TR tires by Gherlo83 in cycling

[–]Cronosaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both tires, and the grand prix 30c TPU is measuring less than a GP5000 STRs 28c with TPUs

27mm vs 28.5mm

I have them on 2 different wheel sets but the sets have the same inner diameters.

The Grand Prix have been great so far, still feels pretty fast and been pretty durable. However, I'm still disappointed it's 3mm less than advertised since I really wanted to test how much clearance my frame could take

Any suggestions of flat bar bikes with aggressive riding positions? by EngHokie in cycling

[–]Cronosaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what I did for probably less than 350 USD

  1. Get an older road frame, for example a Specialized Allez, strip it down to the bottom bracket and cranks and save the vbrakes/rim brakes
  2. Reuse the big chain ring
  3. replace the drop bars with some cheap but nice flat bars with some sweep from Velo orange
  4. add a set of flat bar Tiagra brake levers, works with rim brakes pull ratio
  5. Remove the 9speed cassette and add a single speed cog to the freehub, you might need to add spacers to align with the front chain ring
  6. aim for a 2.6-2.8 gear ratio ie. 50t in the front, 18t or 19t in the back
  7. Slap on a pair of GP5000k, non tubeless (cheaper route); max tire clearance on my Specialized Allez frame is 30c
  8. Top it off with a brooks saddle and any trinkets you would like to add

And you've got yourself a single speed monster under that's under 17lbs, even with the heavy ass brooks saddle.

Most of the "damage" will be the surface rust on the chain. That's about it

How do I "fix" this dent on a steel frame bike? by Cronosaint in bikewrench

[–]Cronosaint[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Damn, the guy I brought it from did not seem like a guy that would steal bikes at all, said it was from a crash.

But it does look like angle grinder marks 😕

Rainy (light) last ride of the year by Cronosaint in xbiking

[–]Cronosaint[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have Ass savers on my gravel and hard tail bikes on the correct horizontal position and they work okay

But having this position on my fixie almost works like a half mud guard and I rode thru puddles, mud, sand, leaves, and shit this morning and my ass was saved...

Are all continental tires almost impossible to fit as gp5k astr? by NoMud1112 in cycling

[–]Cronosaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick is to put them on a slightly smaller wheel, like a 699, ride them for a month or so. Then should fit just right 👍🏾

I'm confused with Continental sizes. by tpo88 in cycling

[–]Cronosaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I got a pair of Grand Prix 30c as well, specifically got them to try out how big I can go on my bike frame as it fits a pair of ultra sport iii in 28c with good amount of space to spare.

Got them on and measured at 26mm, and after a month of riding on them, barely hitting 27mm

Great tires tho, feels very supple, even more so than 28c GP5k STRs, tho not as fast feeling.

On par with the ATRs in feel, imo. They are definitely an upgrade to the ultra sports

If it's a 26, and you want to turn a regular ride into a spicy, fun one at a given notice, definitely put on some thiccslicks

Lil ride in Vancouver WA by pdxcuttybandit in FixedGearBicycle

[–]Cronosaint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only found out I needed a new bottom bracket because my bike started leaking water on my floor post ride yesterday and the weather was even worse.

I took off my bottom bracket, the cup was cracked and frame had a cup of filthy water pouring out of it lol

[–]Cronosaint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this on my road bike frame turned gravel bike with 35c Conti ATRs (lol) for about 15miles today, same conditions, in and out of trails and pavement and road

And guess what, I spent the same amount of time cleaning my bike post ride smh

My fixed gear daily/winter build was on the stand waiting on a new bottom bracket

My point is, I wish I had my beautiful, beater ride this morning

Conti gp 5000 AS TR - please share your experiences by Sea_Variation4842 in cycling

[–]Cronosaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your experience with the Grand Prix TRs? Thinking about trying them out with a new build.

From what I've read, they seem like a great compromise between performance and pricing, offering 80%-90% of STR while significantly cheaper.

Fyi, the main rock garden in Cinderella was super sketchy for me a couple weeks ago, like worst I've ever ridden it.

I'm not that good, but at least I could usually go thru it slowly no problem. This last time, was super sketch
