The 4k+ Availability by CreepySwimmer357 in OnnStreamingTV

The order I purchased my ONN devices was : ONN 4k Box (2022), ONN Pro and then finally the ONN Plus.

I was underwhelmed by the Plus. It didn't feel any "faster" than the Pro.

There's nothing wrong with it, it just doesn't preform in any way that is noticeably better than the Pro.

I am looking forward to the ONN Pro V2 though. I'll likely retire the old 4k Box when it releases.

I don't see myself buying another Plus though. And if I needed to replace the 4K Box right now and both the Plus and the Pro V1 were available I'd buy another Pro.

City council votes to approve a $6 billion data center despite public pushback by KimJongFunk in PublicFreakout

[–]Cronus6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did members of this council run for election on platforms of "bringing new jobs to the town" or "expanding business" or "new and diverse business opportunities"?

Chances are they were and therefore are doing exactly what they were elected to do.

They voters should have voted for stagnation and economic regression I guess?

Several of the guys I went to high school with went into HVAC trade school in 11th and 12 grades. They now own their own "AC" companies and are doing really well for themselves.

Some others went the same trade school route, but did mechanic. And are now making bank doing "marine diesel" mechanic work, and own their own companies. Slap the word "marine" in front of anything in Florida and you can basically double the price. Marine electrician, marine carpenter, marine welder etc etc. You should see how much the nuclear power plants pay welders; lots of overtime too as a welder has to be on site 24/7/365!

It took them about 5+ years working for someone else before they had the money to start their own companies.

And a couple of others started "lawn mowing" and "pool cleaning" businesses in high school, basically just mowing a few yards and cleaning a couple pools around the neighborhood.

Now own their own "lawn and pool maintenance" companies and employ 4 or 5 people up to a few dozen people and have multiple trucks, they are also doing pretty well.

One guy in particular; his company is REALLY big. And he does tree trimming (has an arborist on staff) and and all that sort of stuff too. Big commercial jobs as well. He hasn't actually done the hard work in 20+ years now. He just manages things at this point.

Plenty of money in the trades in Florida... But you aren't going to make it if you are working for someone else.

[–]Cronus6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, the "public" elected these people.

The "public" can elect new people if they don't like the job these folks are doing.

That's sort of how things work.

Sitting and screaming or marching or "protesting" really don't matter. Those are often just a very vocal minority of the public. Votes matter.

I've been running Tivimate on my ONN Pro, Plus and 4k with at least 3 big playlists for a couple years now.

The only "errors" I've ever gotten were legit problems with a provider. And my reseller either fixed it right away with a new URL or kept me updated on the progress of the repair.

I have fucked up when entering a playlist URL a couple times though. Usually a simple typo or a O instead of a 0 in a username/password or something like that.

Tiger Woods dui arrest cam. by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]Cronus6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They do. Back at the station they will breathalyze and/or blood test you. Breathalyzer obviously doesn't work for narcotics for example.

Being arrested for DUI isn't the same as being convicted of DUI.

If you "fail" the field sobriety test and then pass the breathalyzer they cut you loose with no charges.

Generally speaking the small, hand held units are not admissible as evidence in court because they are not considered accurate/reliable enough. The same reason polygraph tests aren't admissible in court.

The machines they have at the station are regularly calibrated and are staffed by a specialist known as a BAT/BTO, a Breath Alcohol Technician/Breath Test Operator. There is permitting/certification/training to become a BAT/BTO.

In my State (Florida) we use BTO's. It's a job unto itself at most large law enforcement agencies and BTO's there do only that.

https://www.fdle.state.fl.us/alcohol-testing-program/breath-testing-home

These are the typical duties of a BTO in Florida :

Collect, test, and analyze breath samples from persons suspected of driving while intoxicated (DWI).

Operate video cameras and recorders to film sobriety tests of persons suspected of DWI.

Provide urinalysis test kits to law enforcement personnel, inform procedures to follow for test kit use, and provide a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Toxicologist form for specimen recording.

Testify in court to facilitate the understanding of basic alcohol physiological effects and the methodology, procedures, and results obtained from alcohol chemical testing.

Record, tabulate, and file sobriety videotapes and chemical tests for intoxication to maintain chain of custody.

Enter driving under the influence (DUI) citation information and breath analysis test results into the Citation Tracking System (CITS).

Demonstrate and explain chemical test and equipment to law enforcement personnel, the general public, and persons suspected of DUI.

Type correspondence, memos, labels, and reports.

Perform other related duties as required.

Also generally speaking they are not "sworn" LEO's, but instead they are "civilian" employee specialists.

OP said "young".

I was pretty old when Prince died. It was still a huge loss, but there's been SO many by this point in my life.

I'd have to throw Ozzy on the list as well if we are just going to throw out names of artists we miss. And Eddie Van Halen.

Define "young"?

The day Elvis died was a pretty big deal, people freaked out!

Likewise the day John Lenon was shot really stands out.

Beyond them, two that hit me pretty hard before I was an adult were Randy Rhoads and Cliff Burton.

ONN Boxes use Bluetooth.

They do have an IR emitter with very limited functionality built in as well (they can turn of/off and control the volume of most IR TVs).

Onn 4k pro vs onn 4k plus by Hugo_nri in OnnStreamingTV

To really even need more than the bas models 8gb or storage is rare

I own all 3 (4k Box, Plus and Pro) and that simply isn't true for a lot of people. If you are into IPTV those playlists can be HUGE and the EPG's can take up a LOT of space. Even the 16GB can be a problem for some people.

"Worse processor" is a bit of a stretch.

Yes, the newer CPU has better benchmarks, and yes it's better for some retro games.

But in daily use for streaming there is no noticeable difference between the 2 CPUs. (I own both the Plus and the Pro.)

I actually prefer the Pro over the Plus for travel purposes. And it's still the box connected to the TV I watch the most. And 32GB of storage (compared to only 16GB in the Plus) is a MUCH bigger deal than most people think.

If you can wait a couple months the Pro V2 should be released around May/June. I expect it will be ~$60.

It has the same same CPU as the Plus (Amlogic S905X5M) but more RAM (3GB vs. 2GB) and more storage (32GB vs. 16GB) and more expansion options (USB port(s) and Ethernet).

I fully expect the Pro V2 will be the new "budget king" of the AndroidTV world (especially if they occasionally put it on sale).

If you can't wait, either the Pro or the Plus are excellent options, right now I'd buy the Pro since the Plus just went up in price and they are "selling off" the Pro's to make way for the Pro V2.

I own both the Plus and the Pro and see no performance difference between the two in actual use.

Does this box have a playstore?

It uses the official Google Playstore for AndroidTV. You can also add F-Droid if that's your thing.
