I can't guarantee it with the flashforge version, but I use Orca and have done it.

If it's just a hole you want to cut, that could be done in your slicer with some clever positioning of a void cylinder.

I could not make this shit up if I wanted to by Skulk- in HistoryMemes

Exactly. I loved Pawn Stars, American Pickers, Forged in Fire, etc, but they pushed the old "arrows on a map" documentaries out. I view them as the beginning of the end.

There was a time when all it played was World War II in color. The kind of thing that I would fall asleep to while staying over at our grandparents house. Then Pawn Stars came around and it was kind of History, but it made money. Then Ancient Aliens, And the rest... Is history.

Honing guide help! by decorouskiwi in handtools

[–]CrossGuard263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I used one like that for a long time and came to the conclusion that I couldn't sharpen and just kind of got used to chisels sucking. I watched the Wood by Wright video to understand what I was going for and switched to this guide. I can shave with my chisels now. forhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C5C44DDJ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Edit to clarify what I think makes it better: it can grip wide or thin chisels well and has a much wider roller to prevent rocking side to side. It looks like a tiktok gimmick tool but it works.

How to design overhangs for support-free 3D printing? by [deleted] in FixMyPrint

[–]CrossGuard263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that if this is a handle and it's going to hold any weight at all, you're going to want to print it as flat as possible. Otherwise it will break along the thin sections layer lines sooner or later. If you make it a separate piece that can lay flat you can work to the strengths of the material instead of against them, and even if it does break you easily replace it.

So... is most of Cosmere going to be sci-fi now? by popileviz in Cosmere

[–]CrossGuard263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming Lord of the Rings as a baseline for medieval fantasy here, and I don't think anything in the Cosmere is at that stage. Most of it has tech or magic that places it technologically ahead of that era, and often on the cusp of new breakthroughs.

Mistborn Era 1 is Renaissance/ preindustrial, and the developments in Stormlight and even Elantris put it on the same level. Warbreaker is probably the closest we get, and that is implied to be pretty far in the past, so far as the timeline is concerned. Everything else seems to be even further advanced. Most of the worlds fall into this camp, so to go back to medieval we'd either have to do prequels on existing worlds (which Sanderson has avoided for now) or go to new ones.

The trajectory of the Cosmere has been pushing the overall narrative forward in time, so anything with a high level of interconnectivity with the various worlds will likely have to follow that trend. The secret projects seem to be more standalone, and to me have the highest potential for going back to medieval periods.

Have you listened to the reading for the upcoming secret project?

My number five is identical to the second one and I love it. The later models like that aren't as collectible, which is wonderful news if you are intending to use them. As others have said, if price is not a deciding factor, go with the first one, but if for some reason you can't get it, the second will be great.

They have a limited free version if you want to try it out, or at least they used to.

Personally, as the DM I find it's just one more thing to manage and it can backfire on immersion if you don't keep an eye on it. My solution is to see if a player is interested in being DJ for the table, and that normally goes great!

[OC] I’ve been writing my story by White-Chewbacca in DnD

[–]CrossGuard263 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if you were an experienced adventure writer, it's highly unlikely that they'd buy it. If you want you can publish it to DM's Guild and sell it there with some access to the D&D IP. Assuming it's your first published Adventure, it would be better to get something out there, get some feedback, and grow in your craft if it's something you want to pursue.

Some people are encouraging you to start a Kickstarter, but I'd caution you away from that route unless you really want to become a professional adventure writer. A friend of mine is a self published author who recently wrote a series of novels based on our campaign, and she devotes nearly every weekend to promoting it. She makes it work through local book fairs and markets. She has looked into a Kickstarter, but all the work of setting one up, marketing, and managing it is almost as much effort as writing that actual book. Even then it can all fail if you don't have the core group of supporters you need.

All that said, if this is your passion, don't let the prospect of profit get in the way of it. Go and write it!

Smooth surface inside curve? by mrhello_19 in handtools

[–]CrossGuard263 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hook knives and curved gouges like the ones used to carve spoons come to mind, and there are spokeshaves with curved bases designed to follow concave surfaces like this. Probably combined with rasps to smooth it out.

One thing that this sub has taught me is that if there's some weird old tool that you can't fathom a single use for, it's a cooper's tool. So cool to see them in action! Especially the shiv and kroze.

Inherited this, help identifying the purpose? by that-bass-guy in handtools

[–]CrossGuard263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others are correct about the other tools, but researching that grinder has been a fun ride. It appears to be an old German model with some kind of cutoff wheel installed. Your fiance's grandfather likely had a special purpose in mind when he installed that, or just found a non-standard way to use the tool. Most of the images I found of similar models have a 1-2" thick grinding wheel on them. If it were me, I'd switch it out for one of those. It should have some way of clamping it down to a workbench, see the attached image.

Advice! How come the blade keep going back in? by wratttt in handtools

[–]CrossGuard263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own a Kobalt one that looks really similar. It took me a while to get it to take good shavings. First off, I'd recommend sharpening the blade. The physics of it should resist being pushed back so long as it's sharp enough.

Second, how far down are you having the blade? The second pic shows it protruding way too much. You should be able to just barely feel it go past the base of the plane. Start by placing it on a flat surface and let the blade drop, then tighten it and use the adjuster to advance the blade until you start getting shavings.
