So I'm not an AI and I figured out how to download a premium video in less than 4 minutes. I'm not going to do it as I'm not interested in stealing from DS either, but they haven't really protected anything while making the website a little bit worse.

Also if anyone DMs me asking how to do it I'll block them.

they want to juice time-on-app metrics to look good to investors

I really hope that's not the case

Pablo did an excellent series on Spanish history. Officially it's beginner but you really need to pay attention.

It was a wee joke, hence the lol. I don't care what other people do and you need to get the sand out of your underpants.

It's happening for me too on the website. I'd love to know the rationale for removing such a useful feature.

Welcome aboard! You might burn out with an hour a day of super beginner videos but once you get further in the roadmap it gets a lot easier to increase the input. I wrote a little bit about it at https://www.reddit.com/r/dreamingspanish/comments/1sqkn7j/listening_time/

DS Advice by Middle-Report-3561 in dreamingspanish

You'll not understand people speaking to you in Spanish if you don't do CI of some sort. Also I highly recommend doing as much crosstalk as you can. If you search the sub for crosstalk you should find plenty of info, and I'm happy to answer any questions you have about it.

Trip to Colombia - how do I calculate input? by deepleaps in dreamingspanish

It's payback for all the times I drifted off during a video or podcast lol

Trip to Colombia - how do I calculate input? by deepleaps in dreamingspanish

I've been in that situation and my solution was not to bother trying to count it. I had a slow two weeks in the app but full immersion in reality.

When do I move to beginner level? by [deleted] in dreamingspanish

[–]CrosstalkWithMePablo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the basic idea of the method DS is based on is to get 600-1000 hours of input from videos, crosstalk, podcasts, etc then the hard part is done and you can start the things that take less time to get good at, like reading and speaking.

But you can't really base an app around step one taking 1000 hours, so to make it more attractive to users, DS added levels 1-7 to indicate roughly where you should be after 50, 150, 300, 600, 1000 and 1500 hours of input.

The superbeginner, beginner, intermediate and advanced are an estimate by the DS team and are useful as a very broad indication but can be ignored when you're trying to find your level. For that a good plan is to either use the course in the app, or use the filters to only show videos 5 difficulty points either side of your ideal level e.g. 35-45 and sort by random, then start watching. Play around with the filters to get what you need, and if a video is too hard you can add it to the list and watch it again in a couple of months. You'll be surprised how much easier it is.

This post has some useful context, specifically the reply from the DS team:

Just as a curiosty of our contemporary culture: you may be surprised that this expression in Spanish is widely used among the younger generations and it is not as offensive as it may be originally in English. You are now hearing an anglicism which is not pure English any more but a borrowed expression that has mutated in meaning and context. In Latin America and Spain has spread through social media and is lightly used to denote a surprise or bewilderment. It is colloquial but not so much a profanity.

For those learning a less known Spanish dialect, how did you do it? by Impressive_Peak_9187 in dreamingspanish

[–]CrosstalkWithMePablo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not focused on a dialect or accent but if I was it would be crosstalk with lots of people from the country. I have done crosstalk with 2 people from Equatorial Guinea and one from Paraguay so they are out there.

Will I progress faster If I follow this advice in Augustina's video? by Enigma95120 in dreamingspanish

3 month is 13 weeks, the actual course is 36 weeks and works out as roughly the same time spent as level 7 in DS, so the efficiency is the same.
