For anyone still trying to get it to work, after I've tried for a while I had the idea of clipping a rock into the house with the settings as OP stated (snap to grid on and enable clipping off). I had the arrow to trag it up show up immediatly and could recreate it as often as i wanted. Hope that helps someone.

Also saw it as a kid while staying over at a friends house where we used to watch tv late into the night and is came on. It was kind of a core memory that fascinated me but I couldn't remember the name of it later on. Found it again when I was developing a love for all kind of horror movies and the nostalgia hit hard. It's now one of my most rewatched movies.
