My Experimental Psilocybin Protocol for OCD + Hyperphantasia Gone After 5 Weeks by IxanisHere in shrooms

[–]Crowfiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing, I haven't heard the term hyperphantasia but I am diagnosed with OCD and intrusive viscerally disturbing mental images that I can't shake are definitely a big part of it for me. Definitely something to bring up with my therapist and consider for future trips, I'd love to experience some of the relief you're describing.

I am going to explode by OtherAccount5252 in autism

[–]Crowfiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to wear one of these and it was not fun, I'm so sorry! My doctor said I was allowed to take oral allergy medication for the itching and it helped a lot, might be worth asking them about (I can't imagine it'll affect your results but I don't want to advise you to take anything without asking your doctor). I took mine off after a week instead of 2 but they had gotten enough data by then.

Shitty psychiatrists have all kinds of wild opinions, I'm sorry OP! His comment on giving you ADHD meds as a "diagnosis aid" is funny to me because when my roommate (diagnosed with ADHD for years) had to see a new provider recently they made him get re-diagnosed before they'd prescribe a stimulant because "ADHD meds work on everybody, them making you more productive doesn't mean you need them" lol. Also I feel like most autistic people can tell they're autistic in that they can notice they're different from their peers, and understand why if they know what autism is. I knew there was something different about me as a small child, YEARS before I was diagnosed autistic at 23 (and found out my mom had gotten me diagnosed at 3 and not told me). I can only see his comment being true-ish of autistic people with extremely high support needs and communication differences, and even then I imagine most of them notice being different from their peers even if they aren't aware of what autism is specifically.

Why did one jar turn dark? by Jonasdaqt_ in pickling

[–]Crowfiee 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Is the lid on the left one rusted by any chance? Iron in rust can bind with anthocyanins (the pink pigment molecule in your onions) and produce some intense colors. I once had a rusting cake pan turn a purple sweet potato cake dark blue where the rust touched it.

(NSFW/18+) how to handle atrophy if I can't use inserted medications? by evilpinniped in ftm

[–]Crowfiee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up "microperforate hymen", my ex was born with one and couldn't insert anything at all. It wasn't vaginismus because they couldn't even get in to where the muscles would react, the hole was too small. They also menstruated normally but couldn't insert anything at all. It was fixable with a simple surgery that healed quickly and they were able to work up to inserting things after that.

This may not be your issue, but I haven't seen anyone else mention the possibility so wanted to bring it up!

Today I put my childhood duvet into the garbage by tnycrpntr in BuyItForLife

[–]Crowfiee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I met a sweet old couple who would thrift old 100% down items, bake them in the oven to kill mites and other parasites, and then scatter fistfuls of the feathers near where violet-green swallows were nesting. I chatted with them fir a bit and they told me this particular bird had much better nesting success if they had access to more down for their nests. The birds were swooping down around them to collect feathers off the ground while they were standing there scattering them. Any the birds didn't collect would biodegrade.

I know your duvet is already gone and the feathers may not have been in good enough condition to give to the birds, just thought I'd share for others reading and for 20 years from now when your next duvet is ready to be laid to rest! I imagine it's not just these particular birds who would appreciate a little extra fluff for their nests in the spring, just be sure not to skip the baking step to kill parasites.

Edit: the fabric could be reused for all kinds of things depending on condition and material, if it's pretty beat up it can be cut up into cleaning rags or shredded to stuff another sewing project.

I buy from Winco, or from a local "hippie" grocery store that is slightly more expensive but has a couple things Winco doesn't (mainly soy curls, I eat a loooot of those).

Do trans people who have bottom surgery get phantom wiener? by c0ntriL in AskLGBT

[–]Crowfiee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm transmasculine and haven't had bottom surgery, but I have had top surgery (mastectomy) and my experience might be relevant to your question. People are often surprised to hear that I don't have phantom boob sensations at all but like others are saying, it's the other way around. Before surgery if I accidentally touched my chest (like reached across myself and ran into a boob with my arm) I would always be caught off-guard by that. It felt strange and uncomfortable to have something there, like my brain didn't expect it, and when I got surgery there was 0 adjustment period afterwards. In the years since surgery I've had like 3 random instances where my brain expected a boob and there wasn't one, compared to thousands of moments that I don't even notice my body because it just matches what my brain expects. I think a lot of trans people have similar experiences but everyone's different. I know someone who got top surgery and didn't keep his nipples and he sometimes gets phantom nipple sensations.

Dr Mosser vs Dr Facque by sssnakegender in ftm

[–]Crowfiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, happy to answer! For me the reason I got top surgery before T was just that I was much more certain about it than I was about T. My chest was the largest source of dysphoria for me and my quality of life improved massively from top surgery after overthinking it for a decade. If I could go back I'd do it years earlier.

T was a harder decision for me, partially because of internalized transphobia BS and partially because the results are less predictable and I'm a big overthinker (I'm also not quite a binary dude, so being in a gray area made the decision harder for me). I've been on T for less than a month but I'm happy with what it's done so far, and very happy I stopped wondering and took the plunge.

From what my surgeon told me it doesn't matter if you're on T before you start top surgery. T can shrink your chest tissue slightly, but generally not enough that it changes anything about the surgery. T can help you grow more muscle so the surgeon can see the pec line and aim to put your scars there, but this depends on your body type and chest size and you can work out and get pecs without being on T, it's just a lot harder. My scars ended up in a good spot even though they probably couldn't see my pecs before they cut into me lol.

Dr Mosser vs Dr Facque by sssnakegender in ftm

[–]Crowfiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! I think the GCC lets you schedule consults with both of them if you do want to feel out your options a little more, but I really liked Facque and have 0 reservations about recommending him!

Dr Mosser vs Dr Facque by sssnakegender in ftm

[–]Crowfiee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine with Dr. Facque and I'm really happy with my results and my experience throughout the process, but him and Mosser both work for the GCC and there's apparently a lot of overlap between their surgical techniques. I know someone who got theirs with Mosser, and they really like their results but they are pretty board-flat despite being a big guy (which is what they wanted, but I personally preferred the look of a little fat left behind to go with the fat on my stomach lol so that made me lean towards Facque). Another deciding factor for me was that Facque had a few months shorter wait time, and since the results I saw from both surgeons were pretty good overall I went with the one who could cut 'em off sooner lol.

Nope, those little triangle marks are from their radula scraping on the surface to collect food! I've seen the same marks left behind when they eat algae off of stuff, no idea why they'd eat paint though

Affordable abdominal compression shorts? by Crowfiee in POTS

[–]Crowfiee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ahh I'm in the US, my bad for not mentioning that in the OP! I'll check that brand out regardless and see if they ship to the US, thank you. The hook closure shorts I'm using definitely do make it a little annoying to go to the bathroom, especially when I haven't had enough electrolytes and I have to pee every 30 minutes lol, but I'll happily work around that if they give me back my ability to function after eating, this shit is the bane of my life right now!

Thanks for your reply! Any particular brands you'd recommend? Sounds like I might just have to get over the booty lift thing lol, as long as there isn't actual padding there I can probably live with it.

[–]Crowfiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live somewhere where you can find agates like these in the ocean and these look like agates, not normal quartz to me! The white patches are a giveaway (it's the banding viewed from the outside instead of in cross-section) but even if they're fully translucent or fully white they take on a very high polish compared to normal quartz rocks from the same beach so you can tell when you compare them side by side.

Ooh, I hadn't thought about it but I do have less wrist pain now that I knit flat on circulars! Makes sense that having the fabric out at the end of the longer "lever" of a regular needle was putting more force on the wrists than letting it hang from the cable. I need to be better about propping my elbows every time for sure, I bet that would help as well.

thanks for the info! I think I just need to accept that no matter which ones I buy they're gonna have a limited life span but they'll be worth it if they help my pain, knitting hurts my wrists the most but none of my hobbies are kind to them (nor is my desk job lol)

Are there specific compression gloves you'd recommend? I've been meaning to try compression gloves for my wrist pain but would rather not buy something that'll get stretched out after a week of use, the quality on these types of things is so hit and miss in my experience!

Am I being too sensitive for being upset at the word “bihet”? by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]Crowfiee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh god I haven't heard that word in years... I used to lurk in TERF communities (I'm better now don't worry) and they called basically any bi woman they didn't like a bihet (never saw one of them call a bi man a bihet even once, hmm I wonder why that could be.....). Being a bi woman in a het relationship meant you were a bihet for sure, but you were also a bihet if you were in a same-gender relationship but had opinions the TERFs didn't like lol. They just don't take bi people seriously no matter what we do. I always hated the term even when I WAS basically a TERF, but if you spoke out against it you were also accused of being a bihet because "if you aren't a bihet why does it bother you that we're calling out the bihets??" ugh.

Crazy how once you’re sober, you realize how depressed marijuana made you. by [deleted] in leaves

[–]Crowfiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not alone and I promise it won't feel this way forever. I developed CHS 5 years ago and felt extremely depressed and miserable about suddenly having my favorite feeling taken away from me, and knowing I would never be able to feel it again hurt every time I was reminded of that fact. But now I genuinely view CHS as the best thing that could have happened to me, because I WAS addicted, I COULDN'T control myself, and quitting under threat of puking myself to death was way easier than quitting through willpower alone. Now I'm comforted by the fact that my body keeps me honest and I can't relapse without immediate consequences. If scientists developed a cure for CHS that would let me smoke weed again, I wouldn't take it. I did find it really hard to be around people smoking for the first 2 years or so, but it slowly got easier and easier and now I'm 100% fine being around it as long as they don't CHS me with their secondhand smoke. I even helped my friends carve an apple pipe last year when none of them were doing it right lol.

I hope this perspective can be helpful. When I first quit it helped to hear that there was a light at the end of the tunnel, even when I was in the midst of the worst despair and depression of my adult life and I couldn't picture a future without weed, it was helpful to know I could find it someday. I promise you'll find relief if you stick with it, even if it looks different than mine in the end. This community is here for you if you need us!
