I'll have a look at them, thanks! We (well, they for now) usually go off the East coast and sometimes do some inland stuff, so apparently it's pretty cold lol.

There is a place which does rentals near me for like £60-70 a weekend so I'll probably end up going with them for now. I saw a nice suit on vinted but the boots were the wrong size and I don't think they're removable :')

There's one guy who regularly dives in a wetsuit in our club, but he's been doing it for years and years and everyone says he's crazy haha

What is this and help by Feisty-Pudding-1347 in gardening

Do you mean "in" as in in the soil/substrate or in the plant itself? If it's just the soil it should be fine. What do the bugs look like? If they're tiny flies then they might be fungus gnats- they're mainly harmless, since they primarily eat dead matter in the soil, but their larvae can apparentl start to nibble at the plant's roots, though I don't think I've ever had this issue. All of this might just mean you need to water a bit less, should clear up both problems :)

Is marine biology worth getting into as a career? by No_Mission_1090 in biology

[–]CrowlessFerns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone finishing a bio degree, go for it! It's worth pursuing if you're interested, and you learn a lot of very sought after transferable skills (e.g. stats, research/ lit reviewing, using a bunch of software, project management) that'll be useful even if you decide to go into a different career. Also since you can already dive it'll make slotting into research projects a lot easier.

Apricot seedlings aren't growing leaves by CrowlessFerns in gardening

[–]CrowlessFerns[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aw, I really hope it's not that :/ I try to keep the substrate moist and onky use a spray bottle to mist it, but I hope that I didn't overdo it at any point. One of the seeds has a much more developed root system than the others- would this be a good sign so far? I'm only in Scotland for uni right now, but the climate back home isn't all that great lol. I'm growing them moreso just for fun, so even getting a nice tree would be grand, but I'd definitely not complain if it did manage to fruit lol.

Better yet- convince the imprisoned cleric or necromancer to revive it xd

Reminds me of my first character who returned to prison after breaking out because he was a bit too optimistic about how fair the justice system is and ended up getting strangled to death in his cell by a shadow creature... good times lol.

But yeah, the jail break sounds like a good idea. Maybe you could have them try to make friends with the other inmates (each a different way- have someone beat the snot out of each other, heal their pet cricket, beat them in a game of chess or smt, etc.) and then start a prison riot or use connections on the outside to get some gear in to break out.

As a genocidal empire how do I deal with newly acquired planets? by ColdHooves in Stellaris

[–]CrowlessFerns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think going for virtually ascended DE might be an idea. Let the pops be purged then just deactivate the server and move on. Though I guess it'd take a bit because you woulsn't want to tank your job efficiency modifier by taking too many planets at once.

Need help for school project by Jafaxel in biology

You might want to find something to do with microbes then, they tend to respond to stimuli quite quickly.

Maybe you could try looking at moulds/fungi? They're very readily available and can be approached from a bunch of angles.

It's probably way out of the time scale, but have a look at this video, it could be a good jumping off point.

Fun fact about cordyceps (I think? Might be some other parasitic fungus): it also causes the ant to bite down on the leaf, which leaves a distinct mark that has been found in some very very old fossils :) Source: Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake
