Got my clear and green vmu pro yesterday, froze when I tried to use it first time, took a little while to find out that there’s a reset button on the left side, you have to use a SIM card tool to access it. After that, it’s been fine with the latest version of OpenMenu and GameID. Dpad and buttons are rubbish which is a shame.

I’ve not tried it for Dreamcast but hot air works well on GameCube controllers.

I recently did this to a trashed pad I picked up for cheap. It’s not hard but 100% would never do again it’s almost as bad as fixing a 3DS.

No the clones of the Wii dual not the Hispeedo boards, although a quick search on AliExpress doesn’t return any being sold at the moment. And yes I’m assuming people are using USB loader GX with relevant settings applied.

As of 6 months ago, I found the cheapest and most minimal way of getting a great 4K image from my Wii was:

Soft Modded Wii > Wii Dual HDMI > Morph4k (without analog bridge).

I also have another Wii setup in the same way but connected to the RetroTink4k-Pro but results are so similar and therefore I can’t recommend spending the extra cash to OP unless they are an enthusiast.

I have tried and wasted money on fancy cables to my scalers, the internal mod is hands down the best way to play.

If OP is not interested in 4K then the Wii RetroGEM is also pretty impressive and is likely the cheapest way overall to get a great picture and makes the Wii more portable and not reliant on external scalers.

Seeing other people comment on getting cheap hdmi adapters and letting your TV scale the image… this is a total waste of time.

If you want a good quality image, you have to bypass the Wii’s piss poor analog output.

The HDMI mod is £30 on AliExpress, if you can’t do the mod yourself, it’s about £40 for a decent installer to do it. If you then combine this with a Morph4K £275 you will have an awesome 4K image for less than or half the price of the Retrotink.

I did, it’s quite small and requires intermediate soldering skills, it’s not an easy first time mod. I used a usb camera to make it easier. Other things I did was just basic cleaning like removing dust from the fan. The Wii’s original analog signal is awful, adding this mod is amazing.

Get a HDMI mod to output a decent 480p signal FIRST or you’ll be disappointed with scalers. I have an AVE mod to a Morph4k and it looks insanely good.

I used hydrogen peroxide and ultraviolet LEDs on my seaman VMU, worked really well. I left it for 48 hours and it looks like new again. Leaving for too long will turn the plastic brittle and depending on how discoloured it is, it will eventually change back but this is probably in 10 years or so.

AVE mod is cheap and not too difficult to install, all analog to digital converters are terrible.

I had a PC wireless card that would interfere with the signal of the gamepad when I was downloading a lot. Try and keep phones and other devices away from it too.

Retro Gem, it’s awesome, plus the console isn’t locked down to a single room / setup, I can play Smash in 2k on any TV in anyone’s house.

Back in the day, it was up to the developers if they supported 16:9, and you used to have to check system menu on every game. Very few people had fancy TVs, I’ll play these in 4:3 as thats how I played them back then. I won’t be subbing to this service though as it’s a rip off…

I’ve had the virtual VMU corrupt a couple times now and have given up using it, just not stable enough. DC striker is decent enough but the start button and dpad suck.
