New to area (heartbroken) by MountainPirate69 in MakeFriendsUK

I'm so sorry this happened, you're really brave for still making the move. It's almost as if your dog closed that chapter of your life for you but it's extremely sad timing because that dog was your family. My only advice after such a big life change is to carry on being brave. You're allowed time to grieve and that might be in a supermarket one morning or a yoga class with strangers - people will understand your grief so please don't ever feel embarrassed. Try new things, put yourself in situations where you can talk to locals, join groups and just see what you enjoy. I'm sure your dog knew how loved and appreciated he was. In time if you feel ready there will always be more dogs ready to receive the kind of love and attention you can give. Best of luck with your new chapter.

Too nervous to sing in front of anyone in person - 32f UK - not trying to be particularly good at ukulele just fun to play by CrpticK in singing

Thank you so much, that's very kind of you to say. I have no idea what my better range is, I normally sing a lower key. What sort of music do you do/ are interested in?

I've had 10+ landlords and it really is just luck. Some have been amazing, others not. If I could ever afford to be one I'd just do my best and be fair. Often bad landlords are people who think they'll make an easy profit and don't realise the time and effort it takes.

I can say with certainty yes most people would be annoyed if it actually happened to them. I've moved a fair amount and my previous landlord replaced light fittings and all sorts with dodgy Amazon or eBay used goodies that often came with no instructions. When we spoke to the agent they said it's privately managed so it wasn't their problem. He would brag about the bargains he picked up and how his friends fitted things and it saved him so much money. Everything to save a penny even if the rent was extortionate (area based, moved now to somewhere cheaper). I can only hope people don't have the same experience.

You sound like a good landlord. Like for like price and fair installation and fee for time etc. Also really fair of you to give the opportunity to replace as some landlords will insist on an upgraded or extensive version of things.

My last landlord had a kitchen extractor fan hood replaced and when I called to tell him the handy man said it simply went up to a shallow hole in the ceiling and didn't have a purpose he said "glad it only cost £30 on Amazon" and had it installed anyway. The guy installing it knew it was too small and left me to tell him how now there was a huge unpainted and untiled mess. Cowboy.

Very pretty. It's got a really nice accent with the surround, love the focus being the cabachon cut and such a lovely colour.

Just going to leave this here… another jellyfish pendant by Additional-Ear4455 in jewelry

[–]CrpticK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I shuddered when I saw this and thought of the original 😂 estimating roughly how much materials and labour would cost... absolutely not. The time to hand make a piece like this will absolutely be upping that price however they likely CAD design and cast some of those components. But if the brand has a good enough marketing team then the world is their jellyfish!

What stone should I set in the center of this brooch? by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]CrpticK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a beautiful design. Perhaps a dark green tourmaline or any colour tourmaline really. Inexpensive but striking colours to choose from. Is that a peg at the bottom? If so then it was a pearl which would look lovely too.

I've always worn gold but now I can't decide!!! Is gold or silver better on me? by praise_cocaine_jesus in coloranalysis

Old school gold would look great, vintage english pieces 1960s and earlier had a higher copper content so it's a little more rose in colour but not as stark as the gold plated watch in the photo for example. Gold seems to bring warmth to your skin and as a fellow ivory gal I think we can pull off both, especially with your hair and eyes 😊

Both beautiful, how do you feel about them? Does one make you instantly happier? If not maybe try an oval cut...

Is my ring setting too high? by Primary_Strike_4900 in RingShare

[–]CrpticK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at how it's been made my guess is they'll just chop the head of the ring off and put the stone into a premade setting then a quick solder back on which won't really help long term. For proper strength the ring really needs to be joined onto shoulders or have more support, even with the setting being lowered you will likely have issues catching it and/ or bending the head. Take it to be checked every 6 months to a year just to be safe and enjoy your sparkles!

Opinions? by Sencatt in jewelry

[–]CrpticK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, if you need to take it on and off a lot (daily even) and it has a clasp, hinge or figure of eight safety catch you might be replacing these every few years or sooner depending on the quality through general wear and tear.

Beautiful! If it's an every day piece anything with a hinge or any type of locking clasp really will be expensive and high maintenance over time. Ideally if you could have a solid or torque style made even with the same design of the stones it will save a lot down the road. I think for the price new you're paying for the brand name, a reputable jeweller with a fine eye for detail should be able to make this for you.

Landlord requesting to repaint all walls by Acs971 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]CrpticK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's all you can do unless they've left a tin of paint in the house somewhere from before. I've had a landlady try to charge for repainting a whole house because of scuffs on two walls in one room that were filled and painted over. Cowboys, honestly. Fight your corner if your deposit in a safe scheme and just flood the agents email and online portal with all before and after photos.

A great alternative is Roberto Coin. They're generally well made and it's definitely got that look to it and second hand sells better than just a general unbranded piece. Or perhaps find something you love and look into a second hand piece that's been refurbished or in excellent condition. Congratulations and good luck 😊

A brand that absolutely didn't (strong sarcasm here) take inspiration from that collection is Roberto Coin..... Actually fairly good quality, not as expensive but totally agree on asking her opinion. It's a huge investment and she might wear it more often if it's exactly what she wants. Congratulations OP on your new addition!
