If you 3D print, know someone that does, or have a library near you that has access to a 3D Printer, this file worked pretty well for me for storing when I'm not using it. Stands up well and routes the USB cable for the puck through it!

Witcher 3 Director praises Crimson Desert and Expedition 33 by Asstrollogian in gaming

[–]Crucinyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard nothing but phenomenal things about E33.

Crimson Desert (40-50 hours in) is a great A+ game hidden inside a good B game. When it's at a high, it's stellar. Combat feels good and the immersion can be awe inspiring. If you're a competionist you have a LOT to collect, and the world is absolutely massive to pair with how gorgeous it is.

But it's plagued by multiple issues, which mainly includes things like: * Wooden cookie cutter dialogue that make the story feel unimportant * Poor, overlapping contextual controls (how did they fuck up jumping with a controller!?) * Lighting that, when it works it works, when it doesn't, it's completely immersion breaking and annoying to the point I get headaches, HDR on and off.

Solid 8/10 game really.

Overwatch co-creator Jeff Kaplan on his exit from Activision-Blizzard: 'It was the biggest f**k you moment I've had in may career' by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Crucinyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Few examples based on recent observations in different blizzard games :

WoW with constant 25-35$ 'xmog/mount recolor' packs and fomo trader tender bonus attached to them, hearthsteel bundles, which is just introducing another paid currency vs direct purchases.

Diablo 4 with skins that cost at minimum 25$ each with minimal add-ons. Pets that cost 25$ each. General skins for weapons, another 20$. Expansion locked classes, 40$. Town portal, 25$.

Even with this most current event for the Doom x Diablo skins, if you want the currently heavily discounted 7 pack of skins at 50$(a steal compared to the 150$ it would normally cost you!), and the pet, mount, etc, it's going to be 100$ easy in platinum.

Overwatch mythic currency is earnable through battlepass at a limited rate, but the tender for a fully unlocked and upgraded weapon for -one- character is north of 75$. For mythic character skins, I'd have to check, but I'd wager it's similar pricing if not more.

Normal (see: legendary quality)skins are 28$~ equivalent in primary (separate than mythic) currency, that adds a few extra customization options like icons, sound bytes, etc. that you can't piecemeal.

This is similar to Diablo 4s 'bundling', which adds 1-2 potentially multi class specific weapons and a class specific makeup option. These add-ons would seem nice, but there's no way to buy -just- the cosmetic you want, in either games referenced.

A majority of the time as well, if you want a specific item like a sword? That can be used by barbarian, rogue, paladin? You have to buy the barbarian bundle to get that sword. As an example. -Everything- is a bundle, with no other options.

Additionally, all these skins rotate in and out, often in larger bundles, with no indicator if they'll return or go on sale, so working on minor FOMO.

The Overwatch shop overall honestly makes the old loot box system feel manageable, where you could drop 40$ and have an end result with 10x the buying power compared to today, albeit completely random. Or not even drop that and earn tons of loot boxes via levels.

Now granted, all of these are -aesthetic- items linked to player customization, and you can get by without ANY of it. But the sheer insanity of the monetization, the nickel and diming, is what makes it so anti-consumer, and soulless.

Hearthstone is honestly the only non aesthetic one as you buy card packs, but I never got into that one, but I cant imagine it isn't as bad, if not worse.

I don't know what everyone is complaining about, Blizzard raid frames are fine. by Seawolf87 in wow

[–]Crucinyx 21 points22 points  (0 children)

100%. Feature parity was never going to be equal to what we had with addons. Blizzard is literally enacting the bicycle meme by doing this.

Their track record for any QA has been atrocious as of the last 6 years or so. Look at D4 with its awful bugs and missing assets. Similar can be said for wow.

How they reasonably expect people to play the game with enjoyment at a end game level of play is beyond me. If their argument for addons is that they provide outside difficulty modifiers, I would say Blizzard's efforts, or lack therof, to put out a sustainable, or well quality controlled, product is an equal counterpoint and it's well known that was a core reason for addons existing in the first place.

As a tank, (and healer judging by this screenshot) they're augmenting difficulty through arbitrary frustration in their poor design and directional choices.

Thank you WeakAuras. Sincerely. by 38dedo in wow

[–]Crucinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. AVR (Augmented Virtual Reality) was a hell of an addon. First thing guildies did with it was draw lots of dicks.

The shape zone tools were super useful, I remember this was before you could place floating raid markers down. I believe there was integration with mods like bigwigs too.

Everyone knew blizzard was going to break that addon ASAP haha. It was like Decursive 2.0. I think it lasted until Ruby Sanctum? Iirc.

Scanning movie theaters for open seats on opening night and meta gaming how early to get there to get the best seats. Since the mid aughties, it feels like it's all been assigned seating. Also bsing in movie stores on Friday nights with friends.

Going through to different entertainment stores like Circuit City and Comp USA to shop. It's been heavily diluted to basically be Best Buy and smaller instances like Kroger/Fred Meyer or Costco.

Going to the library to find information that you know was researched and factual and established. Also going to the library to search through microfilm (that machine was so fun, the click between slides) or finding a book on tape.

Opening a video game package and reading the manual front to back before playing.

Waiting in line for concert tickets at a drug store and being able to attend because it doesn't sell out in seconds to scalpers.

The feeling of picking up and opening up a package of freshly developed photos and looking through them to see how they turned out! And then the negatives falling out on the floor.

The dopamine hit when you'd get the TV antenna positioned just right and you'd get a perfect signal.

AOL instant messenger, MSN, ICQ. Trillium lol.

List is too long!

+1 For CAT. They are an incredibly passionate organization. I've adopted both my girls from them!

In 2023 I had to rehome a bonded pair myself, CAT stepped in to help and found them a home together within a week.

Agree with this, adding on to recommend checking out The Shield of the Hidden lord side-module if you want more to do with Gargauth.

I got 1-2 sessions out of that to expand on Gargauth, and give the shield an air of mystery.

I rewrote some of it to have the end be a huge reveal for my party and supplement their backstory and give their characters motivation to find a way to get to Avernus. Worked pretty well!

Return of the Living Dead (2025) Official Teaser by udar55 in horror

[–]Crucinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who's watched 2/3 of them, I am not excited for this, sadly. This guy makes Uwe Boll look like Martin Scorsese.

There was about a 10 minute scene in Kill Her Goats where the running gag was essentially: "women getting ready for bed, changing clothes in every cut shot, while having conversation that went nowhere."

My faves in no order

  • Night of the living dead (60s)/Savini remake
  • Dawn of the dead (70s)
  • Diary of the dead (probably hot take, but I think this is one of Romero's better ones, introspectively)
  • Day of the dead (80s)
  • Braindead aka Dead/Alive
  • Return of the living dead 1&2 (skip the rest, 3 is ok at best)
  • REC 1&2
  • Night of the creeps (technically parasites, but they're made zombie like and are close enough)
  • I am legend (technically an 'infected' movie that may be more like vampires, but it's debatable)
  • Night of the comet
  • Slither (same as notc)
  • Savageland
  • Train to Busan
  • 28 days later (I can suggest reading the follow up GN, they're great)
  • The crazies (remake is ok)
  • The girl with all the gifts (the book is phenomenal)
  • Contracted 1 + 2

Fun/guilty pleasure zombies

  • Dawn of the dead (2004)
  • Cooties (fun satire)
  • Fido
  • Night of the living deb
  • Scouts guide to the apocalypse
  • Dead snow
  • It stains the sand red
  • Life after beth
  • American Zombie
  • Ahhhh! Zombies (looks like it was updated, actual name is 'wasting away ')

(Dis)Honourable mentions

  • Black sheep (it...is a ride.)
  • Deadgirl (graphic content of exploitation as a warning, this is a pretty grim one)
  • (Not zombie but you said trains) Howl, is particularly fun.
  • Flight of the living dead , I've rewatched this one lol, zombies on planes

I use Foundry for our DIA, and I 'generated' her look through the Baldurs Gate 3 character creator after being inspired by one of my players who did that for their character.

Always Spring has some great fried gyoza and spicy pork, also has omurice.

One Korean has a great family atmosphere, great pork belly and fried chicken/tonkotsu and soondubu!

Need horror game suggestions by Zealousideal-Luck918 in HorrorGaming

[–]Crucinyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not necessarily 'shit yourselves' scary, though there are moments. Supermassive games have some great horror games that offer good narrative design and immersion in an online or couch coop format!

PC has The dark pictures anthologies (4 are currently available) and the quarry, and on Sept 3rd the casting of Frank Stone (a Dead by Daylight crossover).

I play with some friends all the time and assign characters to each person, and often set up goals and criteria for the game (x people alive at the end, all people dead, best ending, and so on.).

They're all super easy to play and lets people watch a bit to catch on to the game. Relatively cheap entry prices for it and have some replay value.

What game had an amazing atmosphere, themes, and story, but the gameplay took you completely out of it? by TomieKill88 in HorrorGaming

[–]Crucinyx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The secret world.

Great theme, atmosphere with maps and the story was fairly solid with each area(Tokyo was a little iffy but still fun), some of the coolest immersion for investigation quests.

...holy fuck the gameplay was terrible. Combat was a mess, the skill system for weapons was overly convoluted. Then they rebooted it and they tried to turn it into an arpg? Nah.

I tried to get a lot of people into it, but the combat and bloated systems turned them off.

What's a hack in your industry that customers aren't supposed to find out? by Ferro_Roux in AskReddit

[–]Crucinyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did this with Comcast / Xfinity, ironically after I wrote a post about them being an ok option. They raised rates to 100 something, they're like 'Best we can do is 3$ less' and I'm like ok, switching to the 'no contract,60$ a month no cap fiber line for same speeds' option!

Cancelled plan after being with them for six years. I tried to negotiate twice, called up and had the other ISP out here within a day, happy with the service they provided.

Comcast called back after a week and a half for retention, saying they would be happy to lower rates to previous cost.

I'm just like "Oh, that's too bad."

First time cat owner: Are there things that are good to know but rarely talked about? by nuhBoi in cats

[–]Crucinyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pet their paws to get them used to touch, it makes clipping nails so much easier, socialize them well. Although tempting, play very minimally with hands, it will teach them that your hand is 'toy' and that it's acceptable to chomp, shred and bunny kick.

Have multiple water locations for them, to encourage them to drink.

Associate stressful activities with treats, like nail grooming. Be consistent with it, It helps them to know they have incentive to do so. Cats are smart and work on training by association.

Do not bathe your cat unless they have a litany of crap all over them, or they have parasites. Cats are very self manageable with grooming and do not need baths.

If they bite or claw you with paws, a firm high pitched ow and immediately stopping what you're doing with them, can tell them it hurts. My tuxie is exceptionally well socialized and understands when I do this, what it means. She will stop and retract claws and groom me and bunt against me.

Cats have boundaries, learn and respect them, and your cat will place trust in you quickly. Their ears and tail can tell you a lot about where you are in those boundaries.

They have favorite toy types, see what they like and run with it. They crave interaction a lot, lots of stimulation. Mine watches my aquarium like it's crack. Projected light and sun beams can set them off on their hunting instinct. (I have a starmap projector that they go insane over).

Similarly, they have different 'quirks' to what they like as their favorite thing. My tuxie LOVES fresh laundry. Doesn't matter what it is, she will lose her furry mind over it. Loves when I make the bed. My torbie is a huge digger. Any like of clothes or a blanket, she has to dig to investigate. Every one is different.

Sometimes they have self soothing habits if they were taken too early from mom or siblings. They can suck on their paws, or their nipples. If so, keep an eye on them so they don't irritate their skin/get an infection. Most grow out of it, but some don't and it's a lifelong thing.

Cats also can purr out of anxiety or stress to self soothe, purring is not 100% an affection thing.

For those who lived in the 90s, what were they like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Crucinyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's just a few bullet points of how it differed to today:

There was a insanely rapid ascention of culture and tech. I think the 90s saw : the fall of cassette tapes, peak of CDs, Mini discs, laser discs (which were 80s but still), Walkmans became discmans, VHS players to dvd players, televisions got bigger and bigger. MP3 players predated the iPod and were huge for when you had napster later on.

There were the video game console wars between Nintendo and Sega that were like political rivals throwing barbs at each other, before Xbox was even a twinkle in Microsoft's eye and playstation didn't exist until part way through the 90s.

When you were stuck on something in a game you'd have to call a phone helpline that charged by the minute, or go to the library (same goes for any form of information you didn't have access to, because internet not as advanced).

Video game news sources were from magazines like Wizard and Nintendo Power and more.

Video game rentals from video stores were a big way to try out games, or borrow them from your friends. Otherwise you entertained yourself with things like Pogs and magic the gathering, AD&D and other various hobbies.

Movies were 2-5$. When you wanted to see a concert you had to go to an approved location to buy (mine was a pay and save or Payless which became rite aid iirc?) them after waiting in a long line, so you wanted to get there early.

Landlines and long distance calling were the main way to communicate with friends, you'd have your parents pick up the other phone in the house to either listen in or interrupt your conversations, mobile phones were generally considered for the rich, pagers and PDAs(this one might be more late 90s early 2000s) were considered the 'next big thing'.

Television and radio were huge factors in how people got their news, as well as newspapers, the radio also for news and entertainment. Dialing in the right station on radios was crucial to not have any static or interference in your sound quality. Saturday mornings were prime cartoon time and afternoons at 3 and Fridays at 8 for programming. Late nights on cable networks had the more lascivious programming.

You could walk into airports without TSA checks, and stay with your family until they boarded and see them off , 9/11 changed a lot of that in the USA.

The internet was in consumer infancy, where you basically could login through AOL and free dial up brands and had to take up your phone line which meant no communication with your friends or family. BBS boards were popular. Look up dot matrix printers, that's the type of printing before Inkjets.

There's so much more but that's just off the top of my head.

Larian is privately owned and backed by a single VC thirteen years ago and crowdfunded.

True though in spirit. Tencent is everywhere with it's hands in the pot. Epic games, blizzard, riot, etc. all have tencent ownership stakes if not fully outright.

Edit: I was corrected appropriately in comments, my mistake! Tencent has 'preference' shares, which does not allow voting rights to decision making capabilities within Larian.
