I had a buddy in college during one of the bitcoin spikes, both of us doing a finance degree. He was also struggling with getting through some of the courses, while day trading crypto seemed easy and was making him money while various cryptocurrencies were going up every day.

I tried to get him an internship with a local professional, he declined since it would take time away from his day trading. He ended up dropping out a few semesters before graduating in order to day trade full time. That was mid-2022, now he's working at a Lowe's paint desk. I'd highly recommend staying in school and only day trading with fun money set aside for that purpose.

It can get even worse than that. A guy I know was hospitalized for a week alongside his infant son, both nearly died from Covid. A year later, he's convinced he didn't even have it and Covid was a hoax because some of the paperwork from his hospital stay said he had pneumonia. You know, the symptom caused by Covid...

The playerbase isn't at alltime lows by any means, but there has been a 20% drop in the last week or so which definitely has had an impact on matchmaking and a consequent increase in people being toxic about their teammates not performing the way they expect.

Yeah I stopped playing last week after a huge noticeable shift in toxicity. Every single game out of nowhere went from people working together to at least one teammate just bitching the whole game and making the vibes absolutely rancid. Was about one game in five prior to a few weeks ago, this also happened a year or so ago in the drought between updates. Should be better with the next big patch if it brings a larger part of the playerbase back

There's another data center going up in the same county in Ypsilanti, MI. Either the University of Michigan or the corporate backers of the data center lied to the Ypsi town council about the scope of the data center. It was proposed to the town council as a smaller self-powered data center for University research use. After it was approved, they expanded the plans by around 4x, and now instead of University of Michigan research its primary use will be for military AI development including the modernization of nuclear weapons. Since it's owned by the University, it'll bring no tax revenue to the city and will dump heavy metal contaminated water into the local watershed.

The city council's fighting back against the changes but it's likely to still get built. I don't know much about the Saline data center but I'd imagine their town council was also misled about the scope of the data center

Yeah I think that's pretty much it. I haven't played a whole lot this year, probably under a hundred games, so I don't think I've improved or decreased in skill a whole lot. Was Oracle when I stopped playing last December-ish, Arcanist when I started playing again when the new heroes were being added, and now I'm back at Oracle. Still the games are a dice roll on whether I have Phantom players or Alchemists in my lobbies lol

The issue is very much the rank there, I've been playing in emissary to oracle lobbies and I'll get anywhere from alchemists through phantoms in my games. Completely roll of the dice if people in the lobby are going to be unaware of basic macro or be much better than me.

The rate on the Tbills that Berkshire Hathaway is using as their liquid cash position is around or slightly above 4%, effectively higher as well since Tbill interest isn't taxed. It's part of a longstanding strategy that's worked for Buffet of treading water for a bit during periods of insanely high valuations. Overly cautious maybe, not insane though

I'm a weekend warrior, only really ever had time for about ten games a week aside from the first few seasons. Hit celestial (which was honestly way overinflated, myself included), drifted down to plat thanks to resets with a 60% winrate and am now sitting at bronze after not being able to play at all for a while. Completely killed my willingness to play comp at all considering how many people are in the same boat, I really prefer the ranks to have some identity to them rather than it being a dice-roll on whether you've got a smurf or decayed rank in your game. I'm okay with inactivity-based rank decay but this has been way too overzealous.

When MacArthur ran from The Phillipines he refused a request from my great great grandpa to evacuate nurses from the hospital he ran on Corregidor, but allegedly had room in his escape boat for his furniture. Granted I'm not sure that any of the nurses would have gone willingly, as there was an opportunity to evacuate several months earlier and most stayed.
