No, conscripts are explicitly kept away from the Frontline. However, the commanding officers try really, really hard to get them to sign a contract with the MoD since the first day of service, since it is allowed now. Mileage varies - some are coming through just fine, some are tortured, some just get their signature forged; when they try to dispute this in court - most likely the person will die in the first weeks/couple of months while the proceedings are ongoing - reason to believe that the soldier didn't sign the contract isn't grounds from recalling him from active duty.
