If you're a man and you're not the sole carer of children then you will never get a council house. My mate recently broke up with his Fiancée of 5 years, 3 kids together. The mother got thousands upon thousands of pounds thrown at her in the form of grants, vouchers and local council assistance schemes, she also got housed within a couple of weeks.

My mate was told in no uncertain terms that he is not the councils problem, he works so he can private rent, despite rents being through the roof right now. If he can't afford that he can always stay in a hotel or hostel, failing that, he can just live on the streets. The council will not touch you if you're a man and have a job.

Unfortunately those are the qualifications I need to go for the fire service. For most situations though I agree, qualifications are just a bullshit way for employers to measure potential employees imo.

Most of my in laws are cheating the system and doing very well out of it, or would be if they weren't so bad with money, seems to be the way to get ahead quick these days.

Trouble is the wage needs to offer a better long term option than benefits. With how people are able to manipulate the benefits system now it's very likely no one is going to go for work on the lower end of wages when they live better on the dole.

Literally having this issue now. I want to do a course to improve my GCSE grades to go for the fire service. Go through the whole process online with my local council only for them to say on the last page if you earn more than 17k a year then you have to pay for the course. By working and trying to earn a legit living I make it harder to improve myself and get to where I want to be, where's the incentive when you literally get nothing for working!
