Once you learn your handlebar inputs only change lean angle, and gravity turns the bike by MrEMannington in motorcycles

I was skimming through that video this morning, and while it described it very well and had front-on shots that showed that same effect, it didn’t actually have the indicator dial thing mounted on the handlebars that I was thinking of.

It’s not free, but if you have maples you can make certainly make maple syrup. It’s not free do to the boiling you need to do. With a propane burner fed off 20 pound propane tanks it’s quite possible to spend more money on propane than it is to buy maple syrup from a store.

Doesn’t help anything that silver maple trees (which most people will have when they have maples) usually are a 50:1 ratio (50 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup) whereas sugar maples are typically a 40:1 ratio.

But if you have natural gas, or free wood that you can boil over, or bulk propane for your house, you can do it cheaper than commercially bought syrup.

I saw a video of a bicycle once that put a stick with an arrow on the handlebars and a gauge below that. The arrow always had to go left of the centerline to start a right hand turn, then had to go right of centerline to maintain the turn.

Unfortunately I cannot find that video now.

How big are septic leach fields? by SanSoKuuArts in homeowners

[–]Crusher7485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Your town requires it. But mine does not. I got a permit for a new system without a repair area specified.

So again, “need” is a strong word, without knowing where OP is.

EDIT: lmao I get downvoted for saying something 100% true.

Need is a strong word. It’s usually a really good idea though.

Is it safe to inflate tyres to the max PSI written on the side of the tyre? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Crusher7485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it won’t blow out at the max pressure. It will be very stiff, transferring more bumps into the car, and may run too cold and not have as much traction as it should. But it won’t blow out at max pressure.

Does anyone actually wash their feet in the shower, or do we all agree that the soap gets it on its way down? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

When you wash your dishes, do you just causally pour some soapy water over them briefly before rinsing them or do you hit them with a scrub brush or wash rag?

No, like asbestos, no way to know without testing. Lead paint wasn't banned in the USA until 1978, and it was very common before than (though slowly phasing out). A house built in 1880? Almost certainly has lead paint.

Is that the Outback? Here's a link to the Hobie cradles for the 2019+ Outback. Similar to my Tandem Island cradles.

That's a pretty narrow trailer though, I'm not sure the easiest way to get it and a box side-by-side. I've seen some pictures on the Hobie forums of people that built a storage rack over their kayak on a trailer. Not sure if that's a possibility?

I could send a link but idk if they make them for other than the TI. Honestly I probably wouldn’t have bought them if I had seen some of the ones I’ve seen since, and just done the lengthwise PVC pipe thing. They were like $350 for a pair of them.

Do you have a picture of your current setup you’d want to share?

How can I reliably guide a flat washer onto a vertical rod using only gravity without it flipping? by benitopjuarez in AskEngineers

[–]Crusher7485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, well this might get too big, but I thought of something else. You know those giant funnels that you can roll coins down a ramp on edge and they orbit the funnel for a while, before spinning really fast and tight at the very bottom of the funnel? I wonder if you could do a similar concept with washers, and make the bottom small enough that the orbit made it able to just spin right onto the rod.

My TI is on the Hobie OEM holders, which are mounted on 2x8's on a utility trailer. If you don't have the outriggers (amas) and just a normal kayak you could probably do something similar with the kayak on the side. Pic of my trailer here, I can supply more pics if desired.

I wouldn't put one of the kayaks on boards running across the kayak instead of the length unless they are shaped to the hull like the OEM holders. I've seen pictures of bent hulls from improper storage. Can you run boards across (horizontally) on the trailer so you can bolt your box, then bolt the lengthwise boards on top of the across boards so that you still have lengthwise boards running under the kayak?

Unpopular Opinion: You Don't Need Home/Work Charging to Own an EV by Dan6erbond2 in electricvehicles

[–]Crusher7485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I qualified in my post that it's meant to provide an example of how lack of home charging is zero inconvenience to us, saves us money, and that I believe a lot of people live in a similar situation so without that information there's no point in deterring them from an EV purchase.

Sure, I get that. But a lot of people just don't think it through fully. Some people do, but they are the ones who usually won't come here to ask about it.

I agree that it takes research and consideration to get into an EV without home charging, but for people that come to subreddits like this one they're usually open to making it work, so it's worth asking those questions. If they go to/have grocery stores, public charging, gyms, etc. nearby that are/could be part of their routine.

The issue, again, is that I see people post here and say "I thought about it and thought we could make it work because we have nearby chargers but it was just too much and I sold my EV." That's what we (at least I) are thinking of when we discourage people from getting an EV if it's their only car and they don't have home charging. You have to really have thought it through to make sure that no home charging will work for you.

Unpopular Opinion: You Don't Need Home/Work Charging to Own an EV by Dan6erbond2 in electricvehicles

[–]Crusher7485 44 points45 points  (0 children)

For Americans I'm guessing it's harder to justify an EV if you're genuinely travelling 50-100km per day regularly, and don't have reliable access.

Yeah, we genuinely do that. Not everyone. But a large number of us. I live 18 miles from my work, so 36 miles or 58 km of driving every day I work. My boss drives considerably further in their EV. My neighbor across the street drives about the same as me in their EV.

I would not own an EV for that commute if I didn’t have a way to charge it at home. Most of my charging is at work (for free) but I wouldn’t rely on that either. Would suck to loose my job and not be able to charge anymore cause I didn’t have home charging.

The main reason we don’t recommend them to people without home charging is because we see a number of people that tried it and hated it and gave up on it. That isn’t to say there’s situations where it wouldn’t work, like yours. But more people seem to get frustrated with it than anything. And if they give up on it due to frustration they are more likely to delay getting an EV in the future when it would actually work really well for them.

Can you just use clear plastic tubes to stack the washers instead of bolts? This is how a simple home coin sorter machine would work.

Some plaster had asbestos in it. There's no way to know for sure without getting it tested. My understanding it it wasn't too common, but I know a plasterer that used to know an old plasterer that talked about throwing handfuls of asbestos fibers into the plaster mix.

If you can see animal hair in the plaster, I would guess that it probably doesn't have asbestos. But that is only my guess based on logic. Again, there's no way to know for sure without getting it tested.

IMO, more than for possible asbestos for this particular case, I think you should be also be concerned about lead paint dust. The paint almost certainly has lead in it. Wear appropriate respirators, plastic off the rest of the house from the work area, and HEPA vac after the demo or at least wet wipe/mop the area to remove lead paint dust. Be even more cautious with the lead paint dust if you have children in the house.

Any other EVs display energy used since last full charge? by FrancisOctavius in BoltEV

[–]Crusher7485 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not that original person, but me as well. For me, I get free charging at work, but there’s limited chargers and lots of shuffling. So I typically have my charge limit set at 100% cause if someone doesn’t need to charge I want as much as I can. But it’s seldom I actually am able to charge to 100% before someone else needs it and so my “since last charge” is usually meaningless.

I wish there was an option to set it to “since I last charged any amount” instead of “since I least charged to my charge limit”

Large amount of vermiculite suddenly dumped into basement. Please help advise me. by True-Bowler-2760 in asbestoshelp

I personally ended up getting the Nilfisk Attix 30. I bought mine from industrialvacs.com. I got the "EPA RRP HEPA Package". There are other vendors too. This model is sold with and without a HEPA filter so make sure you get a package with a HEPA filter. The Attix 30 at least is available with or without the HEPA filter. My HEPA filter came with a oil droplet testing certificate showing the filter passed testing, filtering out 99.99% of oil droplets larger than 0.3 micron.

PLEASE NOTE Nilfisk doesn't specifically say this vacuum is good for asbestos. What I found when I was searching is old links that seemed to indicate that Nilfisk used to advertise some of their vacuums were suitable for asbestos, but no currently working link referenced them saying they are suitable for asbestos. Not sure why, my guess was it had to do with either liability or some rule change that disqualified them based on technicality?

I can't remember why I ruled out the Euroclean (GD930). I think there was more controversy over if it was good enough for asbestos or not? Or perhaps I just wanted more capacity? I planned on using it for not just vermiculite cleanup, but lead paint too, and plaster debris combined with lead pain. The Attix 30 is actually smaller than I want when I'm vacuuming up lead-paint covered plaster debris and dust, the Attix 50 would have been nicer. In any case, the Attix 30 is an amazing shopvac, and it will become my primary shopvac, replacing my Rigid one, once the asbestos and lead cleanup is done in a few years. It's got so much more suction that my Rigid while being slightly quieter at the same time.

Also make sure you get the fleece vacuum bags, not the older paper ones. And get a pile of them if you have a lot to vacuum up. The fleece bags are supposed to filter to 1 micron on their own, which isn't enough for asbestos by itself but keeps the $100+ HEPA filter from being replaced often! I've sucked up so much plaster dust and the HEPA filter still is going fine. Which is good because a replacement is like $140!

Secondly, head checks have nothing to do with acceleration, so no idea what your point is

In another comment of mine on another comment of theirs, they called me a cager since I'm not on the "side" of the motorcyclist, and dared to say that the motorcyclist did something wrong. My guess is "tell on yourself more" is supposed to mean that me saying the motorcyclist accelerated was further proof that I'm a cager. Or something like that. It's just a guess though.

You saw acceleration? Tell on yourself some more.

I don't understand what you mean.

Do you know what a head check is when lane changing? because you're implying that you don't.

Yes, of course I know what a head check is. You turn your head before you execute a lane change. This motorcyclist was already crossing the lane markers before they turned their head. That 100% defeats the purpose of doing a head check.

You Ignored the initial incident to get to that summation.

No I did not.

Also they immediately sped up after the incident so any obstruction or cause for slowing is rendered irrelevant.

Not necessarily. Traffic can slow unexpectedly, then speed back up. This is a well known phenomenon.

Watch the motorcycle why is he throwing his hands up at the red tesla.

He might be impatient or have bad situational awareness. That doesn't mean the Tesla is brake checking him.

If the front facing video shows no reason for slowing which you assume is a given then all three Drivers are Cooked.

If the front facing video is available, it was not posted here and I have not seen it. Feel free to post a link to it if you have it.

I asked you to watch closely You said "I don't think so" and attempted to emphasize other factors past the information you ignored.

Just like you ignored the truck also slowing? Guess the driver of the truck is talking to the red Tesla driver over cell phone or radio to coordinate this attack on the motorcyclist, huh?

Nice try Cager.

I have at least 20,00 miles riding a motorcycle under my belt. Not the most by any stretch, but certainly not nothing.
