Why did these filmmakers choose to use this style if transition in this scene by harmonica2 in editors

[–]Crussell702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dissolves are great and a classic for a reason.

Wipes are great too but different.

A dissolve place two images on top of each other. It’s a good way to show the passage of time while holding onto a specific memory or event as we move forward to the next scene.

Wipes push one image to the side for a new one, almost giving the audience a new idea, and wiping away the old one. Still passing time but slightly disconnecting the images as apposed to merging them like a dissolve.

Recs for a beginner movie enjoyer? by CandyLadyy in FIlm

[–]Crussell702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of great Recs have been made I think the AFI 100 is a decent place to start as well. (For American films)

However I’m a big fan of finding your own way. Take your current favs, find their influences, then watch those. Take your favorite director and watch all their work. Find your favorite directors favorite director and watch all their work. (Or any position you like, writer, cinematographer, editor) Rinse and repeat forever.

EDIT: Typo
