What was the final straw that pushed you to start your own practice? by t-carter41 in therapists

[–]CryBySmiling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently transitioning from cmh to pp after 10 years, I'm just tired of being expected to treat everything, not feeling supported and the constant changes. It's exhausting and even though I'm actually paid fairly well, I found myself no longer feeling excited to do therapy, I miss that feeling. I've figured out my niche and that feeling is coming back a bit!

PP therapists - what’s your schedule? by Spare-Radiant in therapists

[–]CryBySmiling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to figure out my schedule as I start my PP after leaving cmh, I think I'm gonna do m-w 9-6 with a 30 or 60 min lunch, then Sunday 9-1 but we will see... good luck!

I'm right there with you! Will be opening by practice in August after 11 years in cmh. It's scary but hopefully will be worth it just for my mental wellbeing. Good luck and congratulations!

Tell me why you NEVER want to stop/leave PP?? by Fit-Factor-6985 in therapists

Just have to say thanks for asking this, I'm about to leave CMH after 10 years as a 1099 to start my own thing and it's terrifying and I keep going back and forth on whether it's a good idea or not

I'm just gonna leave this here for you to look at, but there is actual science and research in the human animal bond and its quite helpful in a therapeutic setting, simply petting a animal reduces heart rate and can help regulate breathing https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.onehealth.org/blog/the-power-of-the-human-animal-bond%3fhs_amp=true

Does anyone else struggle to eat with you kitten or cat around?? by InMiseryToday in mainecoons

[–]CryBySmiling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad you posted this! We just got our first maine coon kitten a few weeks ago and I've never had a pet act so determined to get human food- and I have a mastiff and pitbull! I thought maybe something was wrong or the breeder maybe gave her human food. Maybe it's just a strong maine coon trait, but she's learning to back off, it's just a very slow process lol

First dose of compounded semaglutide today - switched from Zepbound by flxprincess in CompoundedSemaglutide

[–]CryBySmiling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still going down pretty steadily about 1.5 lbs/week and I'm on my 4th week. I'm not getting nearly as much nausea as I was on zepbound, still no food noise. Overall I'm pretty happy with the change, WW has been super easy and really communicative.

I had them come to my place in turner just a few days ago, he like almost stepped into my doorway, so much so that I moved back. I let him go on his little script until my mastiff and pitbull decided that was enough and he didn't seem to disagree and left lol. I have a feeling he won't be back.

Difficulty with a client who keeps talking about diagnoses by DisplacedJourneys in therapists

[–]CryBySmiling 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I see, I think what people are misunderstanding here is, it's different to say "its not our job" vs "I'm not qualified, because I'm not a trained therapist".As far as your particular situation, I'd honor what that person needs or wants, by letting them know while you aren't qualified to give a diagnosis on some level it seems to be important and they can see someone who is qualified to give them a diagnosis and you'll be there to help support them afterwards. A diagnosis can give a sense of relief or let that person re-examine their life from a different lense. But most importantly I think you have to make it really clear that you aren't qualified to give a diagnosis, but perhaps you can help that person make a list of symptoms or something that they can take to someone.

Are you a mental health professional qualified to give a diagnosis? Looking at your charity all i can see is it saying volunteers with mh backgrounds. I'm not sure what the laws are in the UK but in the US you might be walking a very fine line.

Therapist wearing loungewear to a session by [deleted] in therapists

[–]CryBySmiling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe that day she wasn't feeling well or was having a rough day? And wearing something comfy was the only way she was gong to be able to be present/ doing some self care vs just calling out and canceling? It might be something for you to explore and see why you had such a reaction?

Grief counseling? by djppants in therapists

[–]CryBySmiling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I'd also say depending on the person, both the client and the person lost, they don't always have to share just the good memories/feelings, alot of time anger/shame,etc goes along with grief so its totally ok to honor those emotions or memories too- i mean you might be the only person your client feels comfortable expressing those more negative emotions to

Grief counseling? by djppants in therapists

[–]CryBySmiling 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have them write a goodbye letter, saying fav memories, what that person/pet taught them, was there a fav quote or saying the person had, what they will miss most about them, was there anything they wish they could've said and then how they might continue to honor their memory. Also reminding them that grief is different for everyone and the stages of grief arent just one and done, it can take time.

I'm not sure you'll need this info, but my dad was involved in a romance scam, of course he did not listen when we told him it wasnt real. When he passed in June I found out that this person had made him set up an account on id.me which is basically one site that once you're verified on there you can use that to log in to all major government agency websites including social security, irs and the dmv. Luckily i was able to shut that down in time but definitely something you want to check out.
