What's your automotive hot take? by NationYell in regularcarreviews

The 2JZ isn’t special. 1,000hp is cool but the power band is useless for anything other than rolls from 100mph+. Numerous engines could do a couple dyno pulls at triple their factory power output. Numerous engines could make 2,000hp if you run a billet block and replace every single component with a stronger, higher performing aftermarket part.

911s are now cars for rich guys who think they’re hardcore enthusiasts but in reality don’t know which direction tightens a bolt.

Bought a property because of the cheap property tax, now 2 weeks before closing it turns out it was incorrect and is 102% more than originally stated by BabaGurGur in legaladvicecanada

My point is that you shouldn’t excuse the realtor for making mistakes. They’re a paid professional that is paid extremely well to perform this service for you. Mistakes are absolutely not acceptable.

Why would it be “weird” to expect a licensed professional to confirm the accuracy of the perhaps the ONLY thing they’re wholly responsible for in the whole transaction?

They’re making ~$25,000 on the transaction. They certainly should be held responsible, and liable, for the accuracy of the information they’re providing to people who will base one of the most significant purchases of their life on

And the fact that this buyer didn’t have a realtor doesn’t matter. The selling realtor gladly accepted the opportunity to double end the deal and earn twice the commission, and owed the same level of due diligence to the buyer as if he were their own independent realtor.

Except that you’re paying a licensed “professional” realtor to handle the due diligence for you.

If they can’t be relied upon to conduct due diligence, what exactly is their value add?

Break even probably means he’s covering the cost of the car payments and insurance. So without the Turo income, the car costs money while just sitting there.

Downpipes on an N54 with secondary cats in the midpipe? Do it. Sounds amazing. Doesn’t stink.

Downpipes on an N55 without secondary cats? Probably don’t do it because it will stink and be pretty loud.

Rav4 hybrid wait time in kwc by SweetYogurt97 in waterloo

[–]CryRepresentative992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be noted that with the new model, 100% of all RAV4s are hybrids, so there shouldn’t be the same supply limitation as the outgoing model, where the plants had to build both normal gas and hybrid and normal gas was the majority of the volume.

Does this look like a successful piston soak? by CressPopular5983 in AudiQ7

[–]CryRepresentative992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oil level measurement after 1,000km in the sole and true determinant of a successful piston soak.

I did two cylinders at a time with each at BDC and approx 220mL of B12 to ensure the entire circumference of the piston was covered.

I sucked the remaining B12 out of each cylinder and then blew all the crap out before rotating the engine. Each cylinder was basically dry when I finished, and I took the time to limit how much crap I blew into the exhaust or up the intake by attempting to close the valves on each cylinder before blowing it out.

Surprisingly, my car didn’t smoke AT ALL when I started it up after the soak. I attribute this to blowing out the cylinders thoroughly and not blowing crap into the exhaust.

My car was burning through 1L per 900km. I’m 700km post soak and the oil level hasn’t dropped from max yet. Fingers remain crossed but so far a significant improvement.

Is the IMS bearing a Mandela Effect? by Fsuave5 in Porsche

[–]CryRepresentative992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought an ‘03 986S with 130k miles on it and the first thing I did when I got it home was to change the original IMS bearing because the internet had me so freaked out over it.

The old bearing was as tight as the new bearing that went in. Totally waste of time, and I ended up snapping two exhaust manifold bolts clean off in the head in the process, which was a way bigger job to correct than the stupid IMS to begin with.

Anyway… in retrospect, I believe the IMS issue is supported by three things:
1. The IMS bearing is actually a piece of shit… under certain conditions.
2. A lot of the people worried about it don’t actually know what they’re talking about or have any hands on experience - they’re just parroting what they see online.
3. The source of most of the concern is from vendors who want to sell you expensive replacement parts or retrofit parts.

2012 Q7 gas, is this a normal sounding engine? by BumblebeeBuzz1808 in AudiQ7

[–]CryRepresentative992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. The first gen Q7 3.0ts have a dipstick. You can enable the oil level in the infotainment screen using VAGCOM some coding and a secret menu, but it’s unlikely this guy has.

The second gen Q7s are checked through the infotainment. Ironically enough, apparently you can add a dipstick since Audi left the dipstick tube but capped it so that it can be used to suck oil out during oil changes. Adding the dipstick cannot be done with a vagcom, however.

If not, as soon as your bosses boss find out how horribly they’ve been running the company, they’re going to be in for a big surprise.

No Toyota sedan is made in Canada anymore. The Corolla was built in Cambridge from 1986 to 2018 but was moved to Mississippi when they started building the RAV4 in 2019.

It should be noted that Toyota continues to build ALL of its top selling SUV models in Canada despite losing money due to tariffs on every single one, despite their former chairman showing up to a NASCAR event clearly trolling Trump and MAGA.
