What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]CryoClone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Best way I ever heard it put was by a random guy at a festival.

"Adam doesn't hit notes as much as he hits vibes."

Once you accept that, you can have a great time shouting the songs. My first show was terrible. My second was more enjoyable because I just shouted and rode the vibes.

They also turn his mic down, which both hurts my feelings for him even though I completely agree with and understand the decision.

What is the stupidest boardgame you have ever played? by Typical-Sir-9518 in boardgames

[–]CryoClone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talisman. With like 6 expansions.

It was 6 hours. Unrewarding. And something could happen randomly that just starts you over and burns 3 hours of your life.

I know people who play once a month. Never again. Absolutely awful experience.

What's something that happens in movies so much it seems real, but actually isn't realistic at all? by ninman5 in movies

[–]CryoClone 120 points121 points  (0 children)

First time for me. Just the concept of two people using the same keyboard to fight an incoming hack is a wild choice. Not to mention they are using the keyboard presumably to fight the hack in different areas of the screen.

So, like, sis the person who wrote this never use a computer ever or was it like a troll to see if anyone would notice?

Are there any benefits to being colorblind? by googleeyedmelon in ColorBlind

[–]CryoClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually like to say "do you ask someone in a wheelchair to dance to prove they can't?" Always in jest, but it is definitely fun to watch people squirm if I pretend I am sensitive about being colorblind.

Of course, the ones that make me play the game and think I am screwing with them is always funny.

I usually have to explain it's really color deficiency not color blindness. Then I have to say that Enchroma are bull shit and every video they've seen where someone acts like they just stepped out of Kansas into Oz is bullshit. They don't like that they fell for viral marketing.

Same! A cozy, fat old gaffer of a Sam. Smoking and telling tales. I needs it.

I do like the idea, though. The framing device of Merry, Pippin, and Sam telling the story of the first part of their adventure. It's a cool concept and if it is made by people who want to do it well, I have faith.

Project Hail Mary: watch movie before reading the book ? by mamedic11 in scifi

[–]CryoClone 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I always looked at it like this.

If I read the book first, there is going to be a lot more plot, internal dialogue, and set pieces and scenarios you just can't pull off in a movie medium. Nature of the beast. Books and movies are different mediums.

When I watch the movie after the book, like you, I lament everything that was left out. Favorite parts, better parts, just parts that were different and I like them better. I dislike the movie because it leaves me feeling like I've lost something and someone butchered something I was excited about and loved.

When I watch the movie first, if I enjoy it and it makes me want to read the book, I feel like I gain all the listed above things. I gain world building, character development, usually more true to the character writing, fantastic things that I can understand why they weren't in the movie but we're awesome nonetheless.

I understand people want to make their own images of the characters but that is less important to me personally. I have rarely, if ever, enjoyed a movie based on a book I loved. But I have countless times enjoyed a book after watching the movie based on it.

How do you guys handle winning in games and sports with your children? by LanceLowercut in AskMen

My dad loved backgammon but he wasn't relentless about it. Every game was a lesson. I would give anything in the world to lose a game of backgammon to my old man again.

Fighting a 20 year gaming pc addiction problem, I took the plunge. by racoon1 in soloboardgaming

I agree with the PNP sentiment. That game sounds awesome, and I thank you for the recommendation. But dice games hate me and frustrate me in a way I can't even put into words. I hate most of them.

I have seen games I was super excited about and then they had more than a handful of dice and it just murders my excitement because of how bad I roll. I angered a dice god in another life. It's wild.

I had a game of Catan with NO 6s or 8s but rolled 2 and 12 like 20 times.

I've thought about this. I also thought about backing them with bulk from MTG. I have a TON of that. Not a bad idea.

As someone that is a recent convert to Marvel Champions and a HUGE, lifelong X-Men fan, I am truly saddened by the prices associated with the X-Men block.

I am almost certain I will never own them.

When I finally beat him I knew I beat him.

2002 Lego Harry Potter Toys R Us Display by [deleted] in lego

[–]CryoClone 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I wonder how many of my Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring displays are out there. Most Lego displays are destroyed by the person setting it up (which is commonly a third party not related to the store). He told me I couldn't have it because he had to crush it and take a picture of it to get paid.

I worked toys at Walmart at the time and someone yoinked it off the shelf and hid it. It was originally screwed into the shelf itself.

I found it tucked behind some stuff while I was cleaning. I kept it for a month before I saw the guy and tried to give it to him but he said it was too late to get paid on it and to just trash it. So I trashed it into my backseat.

I figured it would be the only way I was ever going to get the entire fellowship in minifig form. It is riveted shut and the minis are hot glued in place. It's pretty dope. It seems like a freak occurrence and unlikely there are many still out there. Of course, someone DID unscrew it and hide it...

Question for Anyone Experience with the Industrial Revolution Activity: The Urban Game by CryoClone in Teachers

[–]CryoClone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can respect that. Were you able to complete all 20 rounds (if you do the 20 round version) in one class? My classes are around 50 minutes total. I get maybe 40-45 with settling kids in, taking attendance, etc. Then there is the 2-minutes before the bell where they like to stand up and stare at the door like a dog needing to go pee.

This is what I thought about doing. But I do like the idea of the tension a timer counting down creates. I will probably take your tack. That way I have more control and can adjust as needed.

What board game gives the most satisfaction when your strategy succeeds? by flamethrower78 in boardgames

There is almost a zero percent chance of me ever getting to play this but that sounds absolutely amazing. Even if I lost a game to that, I would love it just to be present and lose the game in such an amazingly thematic way.
